Oh Snap! Kindle disses iPad’s sunlight reading capabilities

Yeah, OK. So it isn’t easy to read an iPad in direct sunlight. Plus, who wants to bring your $500-$830 bundle of awesomeness out to the pool when a $140 piece of plastic does the job?

Oh, wait? You wanted to browse the web in color?

Come on!

How about, "You just wanted to read a book without carrying books."

I did almost cop the new Kindle for a gift, but went with another color e-reader because I knew who I was getting it for might want to do more.

To the kindle critics, im taking you dont hit the beach or even the pool too often huh? Woman are almost ALWAYS out there with a book or mag relaxing enjoying the scene. This is a great practical selling point to those who want to read outdoors.

I'll remember that next time I want to read at the pool....:hmm:

I feel ya but that's a big deal for some folks especially white ppl...reading by the pool/beach/etc. I either swimming or sleeping...I not taking that shit to the pool or w/e...and then leave it lying around when I want to swim...now I do read in the backyard or on my front porch but I used my iPad for that...I have a flipbook cover so the sun is not an issue

When you leaving Soup Nutz? And are you looking specifically for an e-reader or just a great media tablet?

I not leaving for a long ass time hahahhaa not til next summer but still never too early to plan ahead...I not looking for anther tablet...but in another thread I talked about the slight pluses of a specific e-reader...the long battery life (10-30 days w/ no recharge) and it's a lot lighter than the iPad...I could still use my iPad for casual surfing music movies and reading comics and the e-reader for "heavier" reading

What he said.....

I got the PanDigital Novel (yeah, by the company that makes digital photo frames). It's sold at Kohl's, Bed Bath & Beyond, and a few other places.

It works with the Barnes & Noble store, but you can load your own EPUBs or PDFs on it, and it has a normal-sized SDHC card slot.

It has a web browser, basic music player and video player, and also photo viewer (not surprising). The screen is glass and resistive, but very responsive.

It's based on Android 1.6, but the OS isn't accessible. It can be hacked to make it an Android tablet, which I tried before giving it as a gift, but I returned it to factory settings.

I would've gotten one for myself if it could run Android 2.2 because the screen is nice, but for a 7" tablet, it is a little heavy (probably the glass screen again).

yeah, since they made the kindle much cheaper, and the ipad price point is too high to not be a complete computer, I'm going with the kindle.

Sucks cuz the ipad has just a FEW things that I'd like, but not enough. And the battery power of a kindle is a killer.

I'm officially OFF the ipad boat until they tweak a few things.

What features are you looking for them to add or tweak?

I really want it to be an all out tablet. I wanna DOWNLOAD shit like I can on my laptop. I wanna run flash when and if necessary. And I don't wanna jailbreak it to do that.

If I'm buying a reader and a browser, I don't wanna have to pay 750 for that.

I got my phone for a music player.

Really I wanna be able to leave my laptop at HOME, if I'm gonna have it, other wise, I have a $750 piece of equipment, my phone, and my laptop- not cool

They are reviewing the black 2GB model that is a bit different from the white 1GB model that has been out longer that I posted about.

For one, the white one has had a few firmware updates to address some issues.

Also, the white model has speakers on the bottom, not the back, and no stylus.

I have had no issues with the screen, and even my kids have read books on it easily and figured out without really trying that you tap on the top to bring up the menu in a book.

This is not an iPad replacement, but an e-book reader with a few extras.

I think the music and video players kinda suck, but as far as reading, and light webbrowsing, it's pretty cool.

:dunno:

I don't need to pay $140 to read a book. yeah I see the purpose of kindle but I prefer actual books. I'll take my iPad fuck the dumb.

:hmm::lol::lol::lol: FAIL!!!...Kindle irony kinda funny...:D..until
you show me a kindle that plays video or runs REAL apps.:(

why does it need to play video or run apps? its a $140 ebook reader.

im leaning towards that over a $700 flashy tablet that duplicates 3/4 of the shit my laptop can do.

You can pay a few bucks more and get a netbook that does everything your laptop does.

i hate netbooks plus the kindle can run weeks on a single charge and is way simpler to whip out and get my read on.

i usually hate devices that only serve 1 purpose but an article i read brought up an interesting point. for me, theres something cool about being able to just read and not being tempted to check my work email, or check bgol real quick or browse the tech blogs or put in some work on a project. thats what i like about real books and what i'll probably like about the kindle. its just dedicated to reading.

Ya man reading on a netbook/laptop/desktop is ass...I abandoned books and comics for a hot sec cuz I wasn't paying for them and it was retarded as hell having to scroll up then across and then always having to be sitting down to read...iPad got me back into comics and I need an e-reader to read all these books I dled...my problem isn't w/ the e-reader tho but the layout the books come in...paragraphs and shit all over the place...I need to convert them to pdf files and then edit them but that's a fuckin LOAD of work
