In the words of GSP...I was not impressed by Mir's performance on 2nd view. The punch didn't even phaze Kongo. Look at him, he was kicking Mir at the end of this gif. Kongo fucked up in how he tried to get up, but we all knew he didn't have a ground game.

he's gonna have to change because shogun exposed his weakness- I dont really see that many heads being able to go at his legs like shogun did. Shogun is a great fighter and athlete and he did like 1000 kicks a day or some shit for 3 months getting ready for Machida. He's also a dude that has been doing muay thai for years. Even a great athlete like rashad isnt gonna be that good at kicking with 3 months of intense focus.
Either way we're gonna see whatsup. If Shogun is the man he will do even better this next time and won't leave it to the judges.

Nah Randleman was nice but he had injuries and he got old. He never upped his submission game though. He coulda been way better than Randy Couture.

Cain is too small and no ko power. Big heavies will destroy him.

Dont sleep Mir's striking is pretty good. Its better than it was. I still dont see a good defense against being mashed by Lesnar on the ground in side mount. He could always sneak a knife in the octagon and cut Lesnar.

I think the current era of MMA is great and will keep getting better ... just like sports such as football/basketball/hockey have. The athletes are already dedicated/strong/fast/elite ... and as they improve even further (just like in the aforementioned sports) we're gonna keep seeing BETTER AND BETTER ATHLETES ... and the current mixed martial artists are some of the best athletes in any sport. The dedication/training/strength/speed/stamina they display in preparing for their bouts is fucking amazing ... especially when you watch the way many of them cross-train. Sports science(s) ... gotta love it/'em.

I always think back to the early days of the UFC ... you had your elite fighters (guys like GRACIE / SHAMROCK / GOODRIDGE / ORTIZ / RIZZO / OTHERS) ... and then you had a bunch of fucking bums who were just big-bodied brawlers ... who didn't train properly ... and got later exposed by better people ... they were basically barroom brawlers (at best).

I'm so glad the cats who are currently in the sport are MUCH MORE ELITE/DEDICATED. It's so much damn fun to watch the likes of GSP / MACHIDA / EVANS / FEDOR / FLORIAN / PENN / LESNAR / TORRES / FABER / ALDO / JONES / MIR / VELASQUEZ / SANCHEZ / SHERK / FITCH / A. SILVA / W. SILVA / THE LIST GOES ON ... representing the sport (and themselves) as athletes. 'Cuz that's what they are ... and that's why MMA in general has been noted as the fastest growing sport in the world from 2007 - PRESENT. And hopefully it's only getting bigger/better!

I'm also sooooooo glad the first season of THE ULTIMATE FIGHTER wasn't a bust. It went off well ... and there were SO MANY GOOD COMPETITORS who came out of that season. Hell - we're already 10 seasons deep in that show on cable, and it brought the show to many more people who may not have otherwise known as much about the resurgence of the sport/UFC brand. Hell - we were treated to FLORIAN/GRIFFIN/SANCHEZ/KOSCHECK/BONNAR/LEBEN/SWICK/SOUTHWORTH. Imagine that season had been a bust?! Or better yet - had those guys not tried out (or been invited by their camps/associates) to try out at the casting call(s)/interview(s), etc? Damn ... that wouldn't have been good. But as luck would have it ... it went well, and at one point during the LIVE FINALE there were 10 million viewers tuning in during that 2005 battle between Griffin/Bonnar. That shit was great! And just look ... now season 11 will be airing in 2010 ... time flies. And even though the SLICE/ALEXANDER fight wasn't all that great on December 5th (as both guys are heavy hitters and were too hesitant) ... it still drew approx' 5.5 MILLION VIEWERS (on cable) during its peak. That's very, very impressive ... as are teh numbers for STRIKEFORCE when they air on CBS ... gotta love it. UFC/STRIKEFORCE/WEC/BELLATOR/DREAM/OTHERS = only getting bigger, my friends.

"try to fully clean out the division first, and THEN think about moving around in divisions and trying your hand at a 2nd weight class" (in that BJ had noted in the past he was thinking of trying out EVEN higher than 170 ... maybe even 185/205 ... but obviously his body/skillset are best suited for being The Man at 155). But yeah ... some people may dislike the stagnancy in that many people aren't fucking with PENN/GSP/SILVA as it stands ... and of course Lesnar (wishing him all the best with his health/recovery). These guys are fucking DOMINANT at what they do ... and they/their camps know it. The only division which is up in the air ... is still 205, as other people have pointed out. * Always keep in mind HOW MUCH that belt has bounced around for the lightheavyweights. CHUCK LIDDELL / RAMPAGE JACKSON / FORREST GRIFFIN / RASHAD EVANS / LYOTO MACHIDA / (DAMN NEAR SHOGUN RUA AT PRESENT) ... and that's only in the past 2.5 years (spring 2007 - late-fall 2009). DAMN ... you never know at 205 ... but as it stands elsewhere ... ain't many people in MMA fucking with the likes of BJ/GEORGES/ANDERSON/BROCK. .

CARWIN's got more of a chance than Velasquez does.

Velasquez is good ... but he had trouble with KONGO there for a bit.

We all thought KONGO may have posed a bit more of a threat to MIR than he did ... but as we saw he was tentative, and Mir dispatched of him in less than a minute and a half.

Carwin's a very tough fighter ... Velasquez is getting there but he's a bit too "small" for Lesnar.

IF Mir was a bit younger ... and showed off his ground game like he did against Lesnar (FIRST FIGHT in Feb. 2008 / obviously not 2nd in July '09) and Kongo (this past Saturday, Dec. 12th) ... and mixed that with his current extra musculature/poundage ... and also brought his boxing to the table (like he did against Nogueira in December 2008) ... then we're talking about the complete package for MIR ... and he'd be doin' well ... just so long as BROCK didn't bully him in there (like he did against Heath Herring in August 2008 and Mir during the 2nd fight in July 2009). Once he (Lesnar) charges you ... and starts using his "superior size and strength" (as Mir pointed out) ... shit isn't fun at all ... or if he gets position on the ground ... sure ... his ground game is young/developing ... but those HAMMER FISTS are no fucking joke. Especially when he's clubbing you in the face with them (sometimes 10 - 20 + at a time)
