‘Cop-beat’ brute held without bail, put on suicide watch
haydenholder1.jpg

The crazed brute accused of a savage assault on an off-duty NYPD sergeant was ordered held without bail after his arraignment Monday on an attempted murder charge.

Suspect Hayden Holder, 29, a Queens mechanic, faced a sea of uniformed and plainclothes cops, who ringed the courtroom in a show of support for badly beaten Sgt. Mohammed Deen.

Assistant DA John Ruane said the veteran cop was in guarded condition after the assault early Sunday outside a Queens diner, where Holder allegedly kicked and punched Deen repeatedly before slamming his head on the pavement, which was littered with broken glass.

The attack was captured on a sickening cell-phone video that quickly went viral.

Holder, wearing a hospital gown tucked into blue sweatpants, said nothing during the proceeding, glancing back at one point at his mother and stepfather, who were seated in the gallery in Queens Criminal Court.

His right hand and forearm were heavily bandaged from an injury he suffered when he fell onto the downed cop during the assault, prosecutors said.

At the request of defense lawyer Andrew Worgan, Judge Suzanne Melendez placed Holder on suicide watch.

The gut-wrenching cell-phone video shows Deen getting knocked to the ground and repeatedly kicked and punched by the hulking brute as he lays prone, seemingly unconscious.

Paul A. Capotosto, an official with the Sergeants Benevolent Association, was disgusted by the video.

“It’s amazing how somebody could be so savage. You can see on the video on YouTube that the officer was knocked to the ground unconscious, he’s picking him up, slamming him down, punching him while he can’t defense himself and for what reason?” Capotosto said.

“I can’t imagine what his family is going through right now and how they are dealing, looking at him in a hospital bed, wondering if he is going to recover or how he is going to recover and the pain that they have right now.”

No one comes to Deen’s aid in the video, a fact that disgusted Capotosto.

“It’s actually painful to watch, seeing that no one actually came to his aide, I don’t’ know what the mindset was of the people that were there if they were part of it, if they were afraid of this person, but it’s difficult to watch,” he said.

At one point, the video shows the attacker leaving Deen crumpled on the pavement as he tries in a rage to smash in the windows of the NYPD veteran’s nearby white BMW 535i — with Deen’s horrified wife locked inside, a police source said.

When the perp can’t break the glass, the video — which was posted to Facebook — shows him returning to his motionless victim, smashing his head against the street and pummeling him some more.

“It was a vicious, savage beating,’’ one stunned law-enforcement source said.

Deen — who had earlier exchanged words with Holder at a Queens nightclub — suffered critical injuries including a brain hemorrhage and was in a medically induced coma at Jamaica Hospital.

Holder was busted as he tried to run away from the South Richmond Hill scene.

Worgan said his client admitted that he and a pal were drunk as skunks.

“He was at the club, they were both very, very intoxicated. They were outside the club. He does not remember this. Something provoked him. My client doesn’t remember this,” he said.

The accused glared at reporters but said nothing Sunday evening as cops took him from the 106th Precinct — dressed in a hospital gown from treatment for an injury to his hand — to court.

Sources said Holder confessed to the attack but did not know that Deen was a cop at the time.

He has previous arrests for criminal possession of stolen property, pot possession and graffiti, sources said.

Deen is an 18-year NYPD veteran who’s currently assigned to the 32nd Precinct in Harlem.

The ugly incident unfolded around 5:30 a.m. outside the St. John’s Express restaurant on Liberty Avenue, which serves take-out food through a window in its storefront.

A source said the two men had gotten into an argument earlier inside the Maracas lounge on Jamaica Avenue about a mile away.

It was unclear what sparked the initial confrontation, but Facebook user “Errol Johnson,” who posted the video, wrote underneath: “Just left the club in queens n—a get knocked out for bumping another man. MUST WATCH THIS I caught it all worldstar.”

Whoever shot the video was apparently laughing throughout the incident — and repeatedly saying “That n—a’s dead!” — while other onlookers screamed in terror.

Holder’s former neighbors in the Richmond Hill section of Queens described him as a troublemaker who frequently got into arguments and threatened people.

Mienkoemar Panchu, 45, said Holder often drank bottles of Corona and Heineken beer and tossed the empties into the street.

“He gets more hyper when he’s drunk,” Panchu said. “Everybody used to keep a distance on the block.”

Thats crazy when you see u knocked a dude out and just keep beating his unconscious body. :smh:

He's never coming home from that. Maybe dude deserved an asswhooping for talking shit, but nobody deserves all of that for a simple altercation.

I'm assuming the cop wasn't White by the fact that the person arrested has not one mark/bruise/scar on his face and is not in a wheelchair at the least. Not all of NYPD are dicks. You don't have to be a hero to yell "stop, he's down, etc."

Never understood why cats posts violence on a porn board

Man accused of beating off-duty cop charged with attempted murder

The charges against Hayden Holder also include assault and were handed out during a Monday court appearance for the 29-year-old who is accused of beating off-duty cop Mohammed Deen, 40, outside a Queens bar on Sunday. Deen is being treated for multiple facial fractures, cranial bleeding and a brain hemorrhage. Holder faces 25 years in prison if convicted and is current

Hayden Holder is accused of beating an off-duty cop, Mohammed Deen, outside a Queens bar on Sunday.

The lout who was caught on video pounding an off-duty NYPD sergeant to a pulp claims he was too bombed to remember the savage beatdown.

Hayden Holder let his lawyer do the talking during a brief court appearance Monday in Queens Criminal Court where he was charged with attempted murder and two counts of assault while more than a dozen of beaten cop Mohammed Deen's brothers in blue glared at him.

Holder, who faces up to 25 years in prison if convicted, showed up in court with his right hand bandaged and wearing a hospital gown tucked into sweatpants. He did not enter a plea and was ordered held without bond.

"I am ordering suicide watch and medical attention," Judge Suzanne Melendez said.

Apparently unaware that the violence had been videoed, Holder in the complaint claimed he hurt his hand after he “was pushed by the victim” and “the victim fell on top of him.”

“Hurting the defendant's hand, the defendant rolled over, punched the victim about two times and then ran away," the complaint states.

Meanwhile, defense attorney Andrew Worgan said Holder and Deen were both drunk when the fight erupted early Sunday morning outside an Ozone Park bar.

"They were both very, very intoxicated," Worgan said after the hearing. "They were outside the club. He does not remember this. Something provoked him. My client doesn't remember this."

RELATED: COP IN SERIOUS CONDITION AFTER UNCONSCIOUS BEATING

Worgan told the court there may be another video which shows Deen as the aggressor.

"Supposedly, there is another video from outside the club that shows the beginning of the incident," he said. "The one online shows the end, not the beginning."

Prosecutors contend Holder, a hulking 29-year-old mechanic, started the fight.
In addition to beating the cop, Holder was accused of trying to attack off-duty cop Mohammed Deen’s wife, who was hiding in a nearby vehicle.

In addition to beating the cop, Holder was accused of trying to attack off-duty cop Mohammed Deen’s wife, who was hiding in a nearby vehicle.

"It's really hard to overstate the savageness of this attack," prosecutor John Ruane countered. "Almost the entire incident is caught on video. The video depicts the defendant following the victim to his car. He picked his head up and slammed it on the top of broken glass."

Paul Capotosto of the Sergeants Benevolent Association said the video is "actually painful to watch, seeing that no one actually came to his aide."

"I don't know what the mindset was of the people that were there if they were part of it, if they were afraid of this person, but it's difficult to watch," he said.

Deen, 40, remains in a medically-induced coma and in what prosecutors called "guarded" condition at Jamaica Hospital. Dozens of relatives and police officers were holding a vigil as the cop struggled to recover.

Assigned to Harlem's 32nd Precinct, Deen is being treated for multiple facial fractures, cranial bleeding and a brain hemorrhage, officials said.

Holder has said the incident at a bar on Liberty Ave. near Lefferts Blvd. was a blur because he was too drunk to remember it.

Holder has said the incident at a bar on Liberty Ave. near Lefferts Blvd. was a blur because he was too drunk to remember it.

The fight outside St. John's Express restaurant and bar on Liberty Ave. was caught on a graphic cellphone video.

In it, Deen is seen being knocked out cold by a man who looks like Holder.

"That n----- dead," the man filming the fight says as Deen lays unconscious on the street while the man believed to be Holder punches the unconscious cop repeatedly and smacks his head on the pavement.

The video, which was posted on Facebook, also shows the attacker attempted to punch out the windows of the Deen's BMW while the officer's wife cowers inside.

When the attacker is unable to break the windows, he stalks back to the prone Deen and bashes the cop's head into the pavements again.

Police say Deen and Holder got into a dispute at a nightclub shortly before the stomach-churning violence erupted.

Witnesses said Holder fled when cops arrived but was nabbed a block away. He admitted assaulting Deen, but insisted he did not know the man he was pounding on was a cop, police sources said.

Holder had one prior brush with the law. He was arrested for graffiti but never showed up for his court date. His mother and stepfather were in the courtroom, but both declined to comment.

"I'll break your f------ camera," the angry stepdad snarled at one photographer.

I don't know what is more disturbing the guy being beaten or the jerk recording it and laughing as if this were a joke. So many people standing around and not doing anything to help. How do you watch this happen and not help. I don't care what happened before hand now this guy is knocked out and totally defenseless. This guy must go away for a very long time. Cops are not at the top of my list but this guy is still a human being and you just don't do that. Hope he makes a full recovery. Very sad story.

If someone behaves this way and beats up another individual like this person is accused of doing, that person should be charged to the fullest extent that the law provides.

That being said, I have read stories in the news that involve, in one case, an off-duty police officer viciously attacking a neighbor he was having a dispute with and only a misdemeanor assault charge was brought against the off-duty officer.

There SHOULD NEVER be TWO levels of justice. Anyone that behaves like an animal should be punished equally.

You have somebody on the ground, not moving, you go an try to do damage to his car them go back to him and bang his head on the ground some more. This is just savage. The worse part is him saying he didn't know it was a cop. How do you do that to anybody that is not threatening your life. What a loser. He will not rest no matter where he is.

Of course he remembers. He wasn't too drunk to run away when he realized the cops were coming.
And claiming the cop started it also makes no sense. Even if this is true, why would he continually beat the cop's head into the ground after the cop was down and unable to move.
Whether the victim was a cop or not, this guy is a savage animal.

Wife of beaten NYPD cop was interrogated ahead of blue-flanked escort to hospital

The wife of a sergeant who was critically injured in a Queens beating was needlessly interrogated by NYPD investigators, a union official charged, before the victim was transferred Tuesday night among a procession of brothers in blue.

Internal Affairs Bureau investigators “demanded information” from the grieving wife of Sgt. Mohamed Deen, Sergeants Benevolent Association President Ed Mullins said, before a hero's escort brought him from Jamaica Hospital Medical Center to Mount Sinai Hospital in Manhattan. Mullins called for the removal of IAB Chief Charles Campisi.

Probers had repeatedly asked the wife how much Deen had been drinking and if he was aggressive. A police source said the questioning is routine in such cases.

Why does he need a police escort? Was he injured in the line of duty? Not as far as I've read. How many people who have been put into an ambulance for transport to a hospital have failed to arrive at the hospital - so many that this man needs an escort? And are all these "brothers in blue" off duty or are we paying for this totally unnecessary "escort"?
This slobbering undeserved deification (promoted by the media) of these cops - no matter what - is the problem is with them now.

Sounds like you have never been part of a "team". Teammates, regardless of profession, tend to stick together. Do football players need to help their teammates get off the turf? Of course not, they do it because they're teammates. Did this officer need an escort? Of course not, he got one because his "teammates" gave him the escort. It's simply being part of a team. Too bad that you have little understanding about these things.

IAB investigated the incident and suspended him for drinking. Moral of the story: it doesn't matter if you're a cop. IAB is always looking to jam you up.
