I missed it but I caught several clips and each lead me to believe he handled the issue (abortion) well. The country is rather divided on the question and whatever one says is likely to piss someone off, nevertheless, he had the courage to tackle it and I think he showed class in handling it softly and with a spirit of respect for differing opinion.

Of course, to some another great speech; and to some, less. To others, however, no matter what he says or does, he will never measure up. The latter need to be watched.

I caught the whole thing. Normally I watch events such as this on CSPAN due to the lack of commentary scrolled at the bottom of the screen. However I did catch the Notre Dame speech on CNN. It seemed like CNN was more nervous over the perceived apparent conformation than Obama. They made reference to the fact that they checked back to Obama's prepared speech versus his actual speech. Noting that with all of the tension he might have been knocked of kilter and adlibbed the commencement speech live. The only tension is the fact that the so called liberal media is so much in fear from the right wing/corporatists that reporting on and subject that will challenge the status quo is considered provocative.

And that's the truth.

Anytime this question comes up for a politician, they would either side with the majority or sidestep it entirely. President Obama did neither. He went at it head on and put words to and issue that is sincerely personal and serious to a lot of people. I've never heard a president in my lifetime address this issue directly. Reagan took the easy road and Bush fumbled the ball like he always does.

One of the reasons I posted this is after I watched it, the entire event was put into prospective. All I heard in the press was about the disrespectful republicans who felt here is my chance to be be klan in public. And you are left thinking everybody hated it but standing O's and applause throughout... had to post it.

I wanted to get the full story for myself. It was a great speech.
