Obama: ‘Borders Mean Something’ for the Majority of Americans

A reflective President Barack Obama tells Rolling Stone about his failure to pass immigration reform, and discusses borders and the path forward for activists.

“It’s going to be important for Democrats and immigration-rights activists to recognize that for the majority of the American people, borders mean something,” he said.

Despite his executive effort to go above Congress and grant amnesty to illegal immigrants, Obama called for a solution that respected both the rule of law and America’s immigrant roots.

“Those things don’t have to be contradictory, but there have been times where in our big-heartedness around immigration, we haven’t adequately addressed how do we get the orderly and lawful part of it down,” he admitted.

Obama predicted that immigration reform would probably not happen over the next four years, but called for “smart changes” on the process of legal immigration.

He acknowledged that many in Central America were crossing the border after passing through Mexico.

“What we can do is to work along the borders in a cooperative way with Mexico so that the pressure of what are now mostly Central American immigrants into our country is handled in a humane way,” he said.

Ultimately, Obama argued, Republicans would have to address immigration reform if they didn’t want to lose support from Asians and Latinos.

“[T]here are those in the Republican Party who recognize that regardless of how this election played itself out, over time, alienating a big chunk of the Latino voters, the Asian voters, is gonna be a problem,” he said. “And that gives [Republicans] some self-interest in solving this in a sensible way.”

C'mon obama, the Latinos helped Trump get in. Your comment should've been "my fuck cup is empty. Not my problem".

How could he knows this and still acted against the wishes of Americans?

There's a reason why Trump started off with immigration!

Got dammit. . I'm going to have to agree with you. ... then go lay across these rail road tracks and hope that freight train arrives soon..
Edit:...the answer to your question can be found on any chessboard.

It sure does but, most don't even know why it matters except for the superficial reasons that they are losing jobs and racism. The real problem is that the USA has continually destabilized Central America/Haiti leaving people to living in countries that are run my gangs/failed states. It is no different than the USA and Europe has done to many (vast majority) countries in Africa. Then folks wonder why they show up here if they can make it.

The grand scheme. ..

So, we want to keep them out of this country, but still want to be able to go their country for affordable quality healthcare? That sounds fair and equal. :rolleyes2:

Man... Most issues are more complex but people aren't bright. Individuals are bright, but once you herd people together then that all goes out the window.
So... You got cats screaming "them Mexicans are taking our jobs." Your jobs are never coming back. They spew some other bigoted shit. They never think about the fuckery that is done in their name but like all other issues... People just turn a blind eye because it doesn't directly affect them even though it does in the larger scheme. Also, the USA (corporations) complicitly supports illegal immigration. Honestly, you can't hire children anymore. ,,,You can't get free black people to do these jobs anymore, but you can jail them. They expanded the definition of white so now all these other whites at least see themselves as recipients of white supremacist ideals. They are far removed from the great grandparents who probably had a real struggle. Then again that is how the wool is continually pulled over our eyes.
