Massachusetts: Obama Makes 4 Recess Appointments
By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
Published: August 19, 2010

Bypassing a gridlocked Senate, President Obama acted Thursday to install three agency officials and a diplomat whose nominations had stalled amid election-year squabbling. In a statement released shortly after he arrived in Vineyard Haven for vacation, Mr. Obama said the partisanship left him no choice but to resort to recess appointments, making the four eligible to serve until the end of next year. Winslow Sargeant will be chief counsel of advocacy for the Small Business Administration. Richard Sorian will serve as assistant secretary for public affairs at the Health and Human Services Department. Maria del Carmen Aponte will be chief of mission at the United States Embassy in El Salvador. Elisabeth Hagen will be under secretary for food safety at the Agriculture Department.

Fucking A! My man does it again. I got my first loan through the SBA minority fast track program. Bush came in and wiped that program out. If black only knew how the major changes to the SBA have damaged America and set people Back years they would riot in the streets. Hopefully things can turn around.

Hopefully the SBA will become more minority friendly. They need to approve that $30 billion the prez is asking for for small businesses.

Well they used to be. I'm living proof. I went to banks for almost a whole year and got turned down over and over again. Went to the SBA and they fixed me up right and got me first loan.

Why is it when Bush did it a lot of people complained about it. When Obama does it he gets credit for getting the job done. Just saying. I don't really care 1 way or the other.

Obama, who once called recess appointees “damaged goods,” hasn’t shied away from using his presidential power to fill vacancies for important federal posts. And despite large Democratic majorities in the Senate, he’s blamed Republicans for holding up confirmation of his nominees.

“The United States Senate has the responsibility to approve or disapprove of my nominees,” Obama said on March 27 when announcing 15 recess appointments. “But if, in the interest of scoring political points, Republicans in the Senate refuse to exercise that responsibility, I must act in the interest of the American people and exercise my authority to fill these positions on an interim basis.”

Great news. SBA used to be the most important agency for blacks going back to the Nixon "black capitalism" era. Yeah. That's right. SBA was a Republican program (Eisenhower).
