NY Attorney General Leticia James Makes Stunning Prediction on The View: Trump Will ‘Step Down’ So Pence Can Pardon Him
Joe DePaolo

New York state’s attorney general made a stunning prediction on The View Tuesday.

While discussing the post-Jan. 20 legal prospects of President Donald Trump, New York AG Letitia James — who is currently pursuing a civil investigation against the president, while Manhattan’s district attorney has a criminal investigation ongoing — said she believes the commander in chief will take a stunning preemptive measure to try to cut future criminal charges off at the pass.

“The vast majority of legal scholars have indicated that he cannot pardon himself,” James said. “What he could do is step down and allow … Vice President [Mike] Pence, to pardon him. I suspect that he will pardon his family members, his children, his son-in-law, and individuals in his administration as well as some of his close associates. And then I suspect, at some point in time, he will step down and allow the vice president to pardon him.”

James went on to note, though, that even if Trump takes that shocking step, and Pence goes on to pardon him, such an action cannot shield him from potential legal consequences in the Empire State.

“It’s important to understand he is pardoned from federal crimes. But he is not pardoned from state crimes,” James said. “Last year, I introduced a bill in the state legislature which would close the pardon loophole, so that individuals such as the President of the United States would not evade justice. It’s important we have this check on presidential powers. … the state legislature, I’m so happy they passed that bill and it is now the law in the state of New York. President Trump cannot avoid justice in the great state of New York.”

Katts really think trump is not a white man in America. He ain't going near nobody's prison.

I think NY got a strong case against him but he’ll be like Nixon disgraced but no jail time just the stench of failure that no one really talks about. ie Iran Contra, Iraq War/WMD, Russian election interference. I’m happy to be wrong on it but history shows at this high level the real crooks never get properly punished or go to jail

Someone once told me that the striking thing to anyone who goes to visit a jail
is how soon it becomes clear that it is the abode of the poor and the coloured

This wasn't even worth posting......

... trump will never resign... his ego and pride will never allow it... plus he would be admitting fault and defeat to his supporters if he did so.
Even if he did..... it wouldn't save him from Leticia..... and time after time I've said this..... she's still up and coming.... I watched her over the years as a public advocate.... hogging the cameras for literally anything...... knew she had an agenda.... then she made A.G. of New York ...... convicting Trump of anything... anything.. will look good on her resume....

They've been trying to put a case on dude for 4 years.

He was slimy before the oval office. Let that man go on about his business.

This is EXACTLY why the MILLIONS who will lose their unemployment benefits, rent/mortgage delay, etc. should take to DC and OCCUPY!
OCCUPY the Congress/Senate/White House. Declare Trump a threat to Democracy.
This distraction will allow Biden to be sworn in early. The Jan. 20 ceremony can go on & be window dressing.
Trump talking about flying Air Force 1 to a rally while Biden Inauguration takes place.
AG James needs to be in the chopper waiting for him, non-stop to NYC holding pen.

The closest thing to this is the case U.S. vs. Spiro Agnew.
He was removed from office but got a suspended sentence (no jail time).

Less than a year before Richard M. Nixon’s resignation as president of the United States, Spiro Agnew becomes the first U.S. vice president to resign in disgrace. The same day, he pleaded no contest to a charge of federal income tax evasion in exchange for the dropping of charges of political corruption. He was subsequently fined $10,000, sentenced to three years probation, and disbarred by the Maryland court of appeals.
