TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) — A health commissioner says a nurse accidentally disposed of a kidney from a living donor at an Ohio hospital that later suspended its kidney transplant program.

The University of Toledo Medical Center suspended the program after the botched transplant earlier this month.

The Blade newspaper (http://bit.ly/P0XEIt ) reported Friday a kidney donated by a man to his older sister was thrown away with medical waste in what medical experts describe as a rare accident. The Toledo-Lucas County health commissioner confirms a nurse disposed of the kidney.

A hospital official has said doctors tried unsuccessfully for at least two hours to resuscitate the organ in an attempt to make it usable.

The hospital blamed "human error" and suspended two operating room nurses.

It's unclear what happened to the intended kidney recipient.

Negligent man slaughter if the Lady dies?

These people in the medical field need to be held accountable. Just saying oops my bad ain't gone cut it. :smh:

I dunno, loosing her job and losing her nursing license and suing her and the hospital is a lot. they dont just get off with sorry for this kinda thing.

Yea no doubt it's fine and dandy to lose her job. But if this person dies because of her actions .. She should face some kind of charges :dunno:

It's like a bouncer lays out a person doing their job and the person dies on accident. They not just getting off with being fired?

My mistakes at work wouldn't cost somene their life... And if I did and it was thru my own stupidity I'd expect to face the consequences..

But yea it's all speculation since we don't know what happened to the lady

Wow you dudes on BGOL must not ever make mistakes on your jobs. The lady got suspended and probably feels horrible about it.

But the hospital is partially at fault too, its their job to put controls in place that prevent something like that from occurring.

Dude, she threw away a kidney. It's not like she misplaced a packet of peanuts.

There are some jobs where mistakes are not allowed. I remember when I had knee surgery, at least 10 different people came thru and confirmed which knee was gonna get the work. I swear one of them mofos was the janitor too. There is no room for error in some jobs.
Captain: 5 degrees flaps.
First office: thinking....damn that F/A had a phat ass - dials up 20deg flaps.

This might not turn out to be a critical error but some jobs require no errors. I remember I saw a program about different plane crashes...a simple toggle of a switch from position A to position B caused a catastrophic crash. Plane should not have been flying with said switch in B. B is for testing only. Another plane came down because of a piece of duct tape. Sitting over the air-speed indicator. Mechanic forgot to remove it after placing it there himself. First officer missed it on the walk around bcuz it was the same color as the fuselage.

You gotta be kidding:smh:

I realize mistakes happen, but there is also something called consequences. That's about the biggest mistake you can make.

The brother's sacrifice goes in the trash. The fact that she lost a guaranteed blood match coupled with the fact the woman probably has to go on a donor list and dialysis for God knows how long.:smh::smh::smh:

Dude, It doesn't get any worse than that sort of mistake.

This....

Sometimes, My bad, just ain't good enough...

Not to mention the brother could have had complications with his surgery and ended up dead and this bitch just chunked his organ... A simple sorry ain't cutting it :smh:

What circumstances could make you feel ok if it was you donating a kidney to your sister? A simple my bad would make you feel good? And simply to know that the nurse is fired would be cool?
