So dudes who knew how to put words together that matched pretty well?
Cause up until NOW that kind of went hand in hand.. you had to know how to spit and you had to have the ear to pick the right beats to bring out your ability to write and spit.

True, but some dudes are nicer than others, ability to pick beats or not. That's why I phrased it that way, otherwise people would factor in ability to pick beats.
Then you gotta say top 5 Lyricists, not M.C.'s
To me to reduce it just to lyricist would suggest that they are only a great writer. Delivery matters a lot, too. You can turn people off with great written material but a weak delivery.
