For many reasons, Black Americans are more likely to be unable to swim than any other ethnic group. The Center for Disease Control reported in 2012 that 70% of Black kids cannot swim which puts Black kids at disproportionate risk for drowning.
This is why it's so important to see confident Black swimmers like the North Carolina A&T swim team. There are one of only two HBCU swim teams and the only all-black Division One swim team in the country.
