No Rocawear Or South Pole Arena For the Nets

Sorry Southpole and Rocawear, Izod, the casual clothing line, is the front runner to win the right to put its name on the home of the New Jersey Nets basketball team.

The New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority has awarded clothing maker Izod, best known for its sports shirts, naming rights to the arena in the Meadowlands.

The building, which has been called Continental Airlines Arena, will now be called the Izod Center.

Izod is a division of clothing and apparel maker Phillips Van Heusen Corp., and is already a sponsor of the New Jersey Nets basketball team which plays there.

Clothing companies Rocawear and Southpole had also been bidding to have their name on the arena. Rocawear was co-founded by Def Jam Records president Jay-Z, who also is part-owner of the Nets. Southpole is based in nearby Fort Lee.

The Nets plan to move to a proposed new arena in Brooklyn sometime after the 2008-2009 season.
