I tried all that stuff but the old fashioned way of teaching by doing works best - IMO.

I read a novel a night and/or comics - So when my kids see that they just come over to me and sit with me and either read it to them or they read it to me. Soon after they start expressing interest in it also.

Kill that TV. Watch a movie from time to time - Just watched "The Neverending Story II" today with my 8 year old but now she is collecting and reading - Batman Adventures, Teen Titans Go! and Spider-Girl (4 for 1 dollar in the local comic store).

My 2 year old - has the "Little Alphabet" series with super heroes and stuff on them so she mimics her big sister copying me.
