No Movie Future For Battlestar Galactica

If you're hoping for a movie spin-off to follow the final season of Battlestar Galactica, you may be waiting for a long time, according to show-runner Ronald D. Moore. But the long-discussed Caprica prequel? Expect that onscreen next season. More on the lack of future, but definite past, of Sci Fi Channel's best show under the jump.

According to Moore, the final season of BSG will tie up the majority of dangling plotlines from the show's previous three seasons, negating the need for any big-screen follow-up. His reason for that? Seeing what happened to Star Trek: The Next Generation when it made the jump to the multiplex:

"I think [Battlestar Galactica] works best as an ensemble TV drama...If it translated into a feature it would be a different animal." Moore said he's been that route with Star Trek and found that the movies become focused on one or two characters with the rest of the show's characters mostly fading into the background. He said the "Next Generation" movies ended up focusing on Captain Jean-Luc Picard and Commander Data. The others, Moore said, did "one scene for their character and the rest of the time they were essentially support to Patrick (Stewart) and Brent (Spiner)."
But while Moore was closing off one hope of future Galactica, the Sci Fi Channel's upfront presentation to advertisers officially announced a return to Galactica's past. Caprica, the long-discussed prequel to the show set 50 years before the destruction of the 12 colonies, was officially announced as a two hour backdoor pilot for a potential future series. The pilot will begin production in the spring. Battlestar to stick to the small screen [Hollywood Reporter]

Even though I hate to see the show go...I can see what Moore is trying to do. He wants the show to leave on top, and not tarnish the legacy with crappy follow up movies. I'm looking forward to this Caprica series though.

Question, who do you guys think the last Cylon model is? We know it can't be either of the Adama's.

What if it was President Roslen?

there don't have to be any.."crappy follow up" movies...just take the time to put out quality shit....

richard hatch(apollo in the original BSG and tom zereck(sp) in the new version) was trying to do a BSG movie for the longest..maybe now he'll get the opportunity

Is the 4th and final season still slated to air Apr 4th? Also, does anyone know if it will just be 10 episodes, or will all 22 air?

Moore migtht not want to make the movie. But since the license belongs to Sci Fi they can put together their own deal. A director might make a picture, but money makes movies. Profits trump creative control

I'm glad they're getting out in a sensible time and manner.

not every story is supposed to run indefinitely, plots begin to be redone, stories are rehashed, shit gets predictable and boring.

good going, tell the f'n story and get the hell out.

That's what I said after season two of "Prison Break." They got out, some niggas got caught, that had the money, end the shit.

Upon reaching Earth, the Galacticans will find out:

1 That the war between them and Cylons has happened over and over again through time.

2 That they themselves are actually hybrids and not human.

3 The "human's" GODS are probably 12 humanoid Cylon models of the ancient past, and the present Cylon's GOD is the human who created them in the ancient past.

"Humans" get smart enough to create the Cylons. War starts between them and Cylons chase humans through space to kill them off. Humanity is re-created through the hybrids, who are half human half Cylon, on the "Earth" the Cylons chased the last humans to.

The hybrids start civilization over again and in time believe they are actually human. (OR they create humans by altering the evolution of primates on "Earth" OR the Cylon in their genes acts like a sleeper program pushing them to re-create them after a certain level of development takes place) In time the cycle begins again and humans create another batch of "Cylons" who they go to war with ... etc. etc. etc.

Good way to end the show and series cause ... what's the point after that?

I think its a good idea.. to do a prequel series for the show... I hope he doesn't fuck it up like George Lucas did with star wars.. i just up NBC or somebody picks up the pilot... please don't let this be an april fools post.. or imma be mad
