Fans boo Chargers logo, Jeff Cumberland at Lakers-Clippers game

LOS ANGELES -- The Chargers' first public presentation in their new city didn't go over so well Saturday.

During their game with the Lakers, the Clippers showed the new Los Angeles Chargers logo on the video screen and the Staples Center crowd promptly booed.

After a few seconds, the screen cut to Chargers tight end Jeff Cumberland, who briefly waved but then was booed.

Chargers CEO and president Dean Spanos announced Thursday that the team would move to Los Angeles after 56 seasons in San Diego. The team will play?home games the next two seasons at the 30,000-seat StubHub Center in Carson, California.

Spanos, his wife, Susie, and two sons, John and AG, were in attendance at Saturday's NBA game. Dean Spanos said he had received a warm reception in Los Angeles.

"It really is great to be here," Spanos told Fox Sports Prime Ticket during an in-game interview. "Everybody's been so nice in welcoming me, my family, the Chargers. We're really looking forward to this season."

Following a 113-97 victory over the Lakers, Clippers coach Doc Rivers was asked if he had any advice for the Chargers as they deal with a polarizing reception in Los Angeles, which welcomed back the Rams last year.?

"Well, win," Rivers said. "I don't think there's a [No.] 1 or 2 team yet. I think that the first team that wins will be the first team that wins, if you know what I mean. That would be my only advice. It's good to have them here. You never want anybody to leave a city, but this is a big city, and I think we can handle it.

"There's enough room for two basketball teams," Rivers continued. "We have a lot of Clippers fans, and there's a lot of Lakers fans. There are two soccer teams. There are two football teams. I guess there are two baseball teams, even though they're not both in L.A. There's enough room. So it'll be great. We have to something to do on all weekends. That's nice."

Chargers admit mistake, drop new LA logo after criticism

The San Diego Chargers' old lightning bolt logo remained essentially unchanged for more than 40 years.

The Los Angeles Chargers' first logo lasted about 48 hours.

On Saturday, team officials said they had scrapped their first logo, which bore an uncanny resemblance to the Los Angeles Dodgers' timeless blue-and-white 'LA' crest.

Chargers president of business operations A.G. Spanos told NBC Sports the team "miscalculated" how the logo would be received by the public.

"The logo that was revealed on Thursday was meant to help launch our brand into the market and supplement - not replace - our official team marks," Spanos said.

"Clearly, we miscalculated how the logo would be received, and we've taken it out of the rotation."

The logo did not receive a warm welcome from fans in Los Angeles. On Saturday, fans booed when the team's new crest was displayed on the video screen during a game between the Lakers and Clippers at Staples Center.

It also quickly became the subject of widespread mockery on social media.

Spanos told NBC the team may try another LA logo down the road, and would look for community and fan input during the process.

"If the ultimate outcome of this episode is something really special that LA fans help create and truly love, that's a win," Spanos said.

Chargers exec reveals why the team changed logos three times in 36 hours

Shortly after the Chargers announced their move to Los Angeles on Thursday, the team unveiled a “new logo” on Twitter that was universally ridiculed by the online masses.

Within hours, multiple reports indicated that the white-on-blue, lightning-based logo was simply a placeholder — a marketing tool to help launch the new brand. Yet in the face of all that trolling from NFL fans, the Chargers unveiled another logo one day after debuting the first. This time, the mark was the same, only the colors were more reflective of the Chargers, with the LA logo mocked up in gold and powder blue.

Even that wasn’t enough for the franchise, however, as the team unveiled a third Los Angeles-based trademark before the end of the day on Friday.

Finally, on Saturday, Chargers president of business operations A.G. Spanos explained just what happened in a statement provided to NBC Sports.

Via Pro Football Talk:

“The logo that was revealed on Thursday was meant to help launch our brand into the market and supplement — not replace — our official team marks,” Chargers president of business operations A.G. Spanos said in a statement provided to PFT. “Clearly, we miscalculated how the logo would be received, and we’ve taken it out of the rotation.”

A.G. Spanos emphasized that this is the identity of the team. “If we make a mistake, we own it, learn from it, and move on without looking back,” he said.

“If the ultimate outcome of this episode is something really special that L.A. fans help create and truly love, that’s a win,” Spanos said.

Really, though, you have to appreciate the Chargers taking fans’ feedback into account. This is an opportunity for the organization to make the most of a bad situation, which starts with a clean slate across the board.

So if you’re listening, Los Angeles Chargers, we will say this one more time: Please, please, please make the powder blue the primary color for your jerseys, logo, and basically everything Chargers-related moving forward. It’s simply the best.

I bet the majority of these dumbass burning jerseys didn't vote to keep the team from moving in Nov.
