I saw on ESPN the referee double downed on saying #70 reported as eligible and #68 didn't
 
If this was the 70's Jimmy Burke would have made sure at least two of those officials would be wearing cement shoes.

The Lions have to share the blame. The ref announced 70 eligible over the loud speaker if they had planned and rehearsed as much as they said they should called timeout when the ref didn't say 68.

Plus when you watch the video 70 is running over and saying something to ref I'm sure he isn't saying Happy New Year.

It doesn't matter. All the player has to do is come over and report! They don't have to say anything!

Even if they announce it over the speaker system that only #70 reported, #68 still did his job and reported. Doesn't matter what PA Guy is saying!
It's still a legal play.

This is a monumental fuck up!! It's 100% on the refs.

You had Teddy Bruschi saying that all he would do is swipe his jersey from almost 20 yards away and he was good.
 
Ok but people forget that they went for it on 4th and goal twice in the game instead of opting for FGS...They also could have went for an XP to tie the game. U don't lose a game on just one play or one bad call. Dallas was not the better team in my opinion...but you execute and win.

Here’s my take on what I think happened.

It was all part of a trick play. Part of the trick was for 68 to report without revealing it to the defense.

That’s why 3 players were there so that the defense would think that 70 the one reporting like he was all game.

Yeah I know the refs let the defenders know, but hopefully it would cause confusion and at the v. least cost Dallas a timeout.


Rex mad cause that’s the sneaky shady ish he use to do as a coach. He probably think sign stealing is part of the game.

Not a dirty play, but they got a lil too sneaky w it.

......but that's what you do in sports!

You don't tip your hand to the opponent. You use all kinds of disguises and misdirection in all team sports.

Nothing that happened on the field on Saturday is new to any official in the NFL. The guy just blew the reporting!

BTW.....Sign stealing IS part of the game! Every single team in sports tries to figure out what the other team is doing.

I think they got fucked trying to be cute. They sent 3 cats over there to the ref, knowing that only one was going to report as eligible. By FORMATION only one of them was eligible! Just send the cat that's eligible or maybe 2. You don't even have to say the shit out loud! They tried to confuse the Cowboys and it also worked on the ref. END OF FILE.

Coach told the refs before the game he was doing that. No excuse for them to fuck it up. And demoted? They working the Ravens v cowboys Sunday night.
 
I mean how is this different from the last time the Lions played Dallas for a Wildcard spot and Anthony Hitchens SHOULD have been called for Pass Interference and wasn't?!?! I have seen Lions D-Line accidentally trip the opposing teams quarterback and get called for roughing the passer, but Goff was hit after passing and no flag.
