purely from a political standpoint, the civil rights act did at least hurt the Democratic party.... and helped the republican party. Lyndon Johnson even said it was gonna happen, but he knew it was the right thing to do. Amazing; a politician who actually says fuck the votes, this has to be done.

All those southern democrats (fuck em anyway... the segregationist types) ,that were left, jumped ship and Nixon said "hmmmm.... southern voting strategy... I like it!". Repubs have been taking advantage of the southern animosity towards that ever since.

Actually I am for repealing and privatizing Social Security. My mother paid into it for 36 years and pulled it for only 2 before she passed. I like the plan they have in Galveston, TX. You get more than what you put into it and you know it will be waiting for you when you need it.

example: go watch the documentary about Frederick Douglass high that came on HBO...in giving the history of the school, they talked about how the smartest black students all transferred to white schools to try and get better opportunities and educations after desegregation...

leaving the school, and the communities filled with the underachievers and thugs...now that whole neighborhood went to shit (like it looks now).

this happened across the country. will somebody ever do a documentary on THIS angle of the civil rights movement? don't hold your breath...
