Their final warm-up (against the Chicago Cubs) now behind them, was conducted in chilley 47-degree New York weather. It was quite impressive on all fronts, especially the pitching and the hitting.

While the exhibition was 'sweet', it was anything but 'sweet' for "Sweet Lou" Pinella, Cub manager. Lou admitedly enjoyed the pre-game highlights showing his contributions to the Yankees during his playing days with them, but the game's results dampened his enjoyment.

However, he can take a little solace knowing that his ace, Zambrano, wasn't on the mound. Unfortunately, their #3 starter, Rich Harden, absorbed the Yankee shellacking...10-1. Harden surrendered 7-hits, 8-R's, 4-BB's, along with 3-HR's. Teixiera (2) and Jeter (1) were responsible for the homers. Shelly Duncan added a solo shot--for good measure--in the eighth inning.

The major highlight that many Yankee fans delighted in was the pitching . Both Andy Pettitte and A.J. Burnett wwere sharp. Pettitte threw 4-innings, allowing only 6-hits (harmless); 1-ER; while Burnett also threw 4-inn., allowing only 2-hits, striking out 6, and walked only 1. Plus, he left the game uninjured! A big concern that influenced his free-agent sighing. His departure generated a huge sigh of relief, and a massive 'uncrossing' of fingers. Teixiera was heard saying that he thinks the new digs is a "hitter's park". Lets hope so.

Tomorrow, the Yankees play for real. Another free-agent signing, argubly the biggest free-agent signing, will se C.C.Sabathia (17-10, 2.70 ERA) go against the Baltimore Orioles. This will be his 6th opening day start. His openent will be Orioles' Jeremy Guthrie (10-12, 3.63 ERA). The game will be televised on ESPN, 4:00 EST.
