New York Mets Gary Sheffield HITS # 500...finally..................

...and joins the 500-HRS Club! He's also the 4th oldest 40-year old to achieve that honor. The other three are no longer active.

Gary pumped his arms skyward before he rounded first base, convinced that the ball was leaving the yard. He was greeted by his teammates, who pour from the dugout, amid a standing ovation from the crowd. He's definitely relieved at putting #500 behind him.

He also joins four former ballplayers--three of whom are HOF'ers--Willie Mays, Reggie Jackson, Frank Robinson, and Barry Bonds as the only players to have at least 500-HRS, alongwith 2500-hits, 1500 RBI's, and 200-stolen bases. A very select group.

CONGRATS, Sheff!

??????

can't be serious.

if it wasn't for barry steroid ass he would have 4 MVP's

not to mention his coach said he's up there with mayes mantle ruth and aaron.

- dude. let's just be real....pujols is in a B.S. generation...where are the great pitchers?

Sheffield routinely faced pitchers like glavine, maddux, chuck finley, jim abbott, randy johnson, david cone, john smoltz, david wells etc etc...great veteran pitchers in their prime. pujols hasn't seen any pitching.

Ramirez faced those guys I named above too, and both of them creamed them. I put sheffield over manny only b/c he has been playing longer and for more teams which i'd say gives him the slight edge.
