New Trailer: ‘Snow White’ Live-Action - Rachel Zegler Faces Off Against Gal Gadot’s Evil Queen and Meets the Seven Dwarfs

Why were people mad at Snow white again, was it the cgi dwarfs?

Zegler has publicly supported Palestine in the Israeli–Palestinian conflict since 2021. In October 2023, she became a member of Artists4Ceasefire and signed their letter urging Joe Biden to facilitate a ceasefire to end Israel's bombardment of the Gaza Strip. In a January 2024 Instagram story, she urged her followers to pressure their government leaders to support a ceasefire in Gaza. In August 2024, she tweeted, "and always remember, free palestine".[57][58]

In November 2024, Zegler criticized Donald Trump and his supporters, claiming there is a "deep, deep sickness" in the United States and accusing Trump of "threaten[ing] our democracy".[59] She also wrote, "May Trump supporters and Trump voters and Trump himself never know peace."[60] She later apologized for "contribut[ing] to the negative discourse".[60]

Main article: Israeli–Palestinian conflict

Gadot also a strong supporter of the Israeli military and considers it her duty as a public figure to advocate for Israel.[191] During the 2014 Gaza War,[192] Gadot posted on Facebook a picture of herself and her daughter praying in front of Shabbat candles in support of the IDF. She expressed her prayers for Israeli citizens and soldiers and condemned Hamas, whom she called "cowards" hiding behind women and children.[193] The post sparked both support and criticism due to differing views on the conflict.[194]

In 2019, Gadot clashed with Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu over the status of Israel's Arab minority. After Netanyahu's remark that Israel is a "nation-state" for Jews only, actress Rotem Sela criticized it, calling for equality for all. Gadot, defending Sela, emphasized, It's about "peace, equality, and tolerance." Her comments sparked mixed reactions, with some praising her stance and others urging a clearer political position.[195]

During the 2021 Israel–Palestine crisis, Gadot called for peace in a statement that sparked widespread backlash. While expressing support for Israel, she referred to Palestinians as "neighbors" rather than naming them directly, which many saw as downplaying their suffering.[196][197][198] Yair Netanyahu, son of the Israeli prime minister, criticized her neutrality, arguing that, as Israel’s most known figure, she should have taken a stronger stance. He compared her to Bella and Gigi Hadid, who are vocal in their pro-Palestinian support, saying Gadot acted "as if she was from Switzerland" instead of strongly supporting Israel.[199] Israeli nationalists also expressed disappointment, believing she should have used her global influence to defend Israel more strongly.[199]

In 2022, following the Bnei Brak and Tel Aviv shooting attacks, Gadot remained silent, which led to criticism from her Israeli fans.[200] However, her mother, Irit Gadot, addressed the matter publicly, defending her daughter. In response to the backlash, Gadot remained silent on her own social media but later responded to her mother’s post with a message: "My mother, you are a kind-hearted angel. Only love brings love".[201]

In August 2022, Gadot visited the town of Netiv HaAsara in southern Israel, the closest town to Gaza and a front-line location during clashes between the Israeli military and Gaza. Prior, on 7 August 2022, she was photographed in a missile shelter on Rothschild Boulevard in Tel Aviv, where she sought refuge with her children during a rocket alert.[202] In May 2022, Gadot expressed her support for Noa Kirel, the Israeli representative in the Eurovision semi-final, Gadot called Kirel a "unicorn".[203]

In October 2023, during the Israel–Hamas war, Gadot posted a story on her Instagram stating, "Killing innocent Palestinians is horrific," alongside condemning the killing of Israelis. This led to criticism from some in Israel,[204] particularly from rapper Yoav Eliasi, who called her a "repulsive woman" for equating the killing of Israelis with that of Palestinians, accusing her of not understanding the gravity of the situation or the nature of the violence Israel was facing.[205] This followed by Israeli journalist Ofira Assayag, who accused Gadot of being out of touch and living in a "Hollywood bubble."[204] Assayag questioned Gadot's loyalty to Israel, calling her a "disconnected piece of shit," and compared her to other celebrities like Dwayne Johnson and Gigi Hadid, who showed more balanced support for both sides. Gadot later added, "Killing innocent Israelis is horrific. If you don't think the same, I think you need to ask yourself why," but deleted the reference to Palestinians after further backlash.[204]

Later that month, Gadot, along with over 700 Hollywood professionals, signed an open letter condemning the Palestinian militant group Hamas, demanding the release of hostages, and expressing support for Israel.[206] In November 2023, Gadot continued her advocacy by organizing a screening of Bearing Witness, an Israeli film showing the violence of Hamas, though she did not attend the screening.[207] Reports stated that 120 people were invited to the event. The Jewish organization Jewish Voice for Peace criticized Gadot and Guy Nativ for screening the film, calling it a "propaganda," claiming the film overlooked the situation in Palestine and served those promoting war and genocide.[208]

In May 2024, Gadot advocated for Eden Golan, Israel's Eurovision representative, publicly encouraging her followers to vote for Golan. As a result, Gadot lost one million Instagram followers. Despite the backlash, Gadot continued to share posts praising Golan and urging votes throughout the competition.[209] Later In September 2024, Gadot joined Israeli President Isaac Herzog in launching the "Voice of the People" initiative, aimed at fostering global Jewish unity amidst rising antisemitism and the "ongoing hostage crisis."[210][211]

When I look back 15 years, when I was starting out, being Israeli was something that people admired and were excited about—Israeli women, their strength, and all that. I’m not saying it’s no longer the case, but now it’s complicated. The conversation has changed. It’s different. And I find myself, time and again, having to engage in very complex and often uncomfortable discussions with people who have opinions about what’s happening, trying to give them the full picture of what’s really going on.
— Gadot reflecting on shifting views of Israel.[212]

In January 2025, Gadot participated in Noa Tishby’s "#BringOnTheLight" campaign, celebrating Jewish resilience and joy during Hanukkah. The campaign featured other celebrities who lit the menorah on different nights.[213] Late that month, she faced backlash after attending the 2025 Golden Globes without wearing a yellow ribbon pin, a symbol of support for hostages held by Hamas. Reports then circulated claiming she was forbidden from wearing the pin. In response, Gadot clarified that she was never told not to wear it. Instead, Gadot wore a yellow ring and posted on social media to raise awareness for the hostages' plight.[214] She faced backlash over this, including from Ofira Asayag, who called Gadot a "hypocrite."[215]

In February 2025, Gadot spoke about the hostages and the Israel-Gaza war, stating on her Harper's Bazaar Spain interview that her wish is for a "diplomatic agreement that allows all parties at the table to live a good and prosperous life."[216]

She reinforced her anti-war stance, saying that "I know it sounds cliché, but just as they are teaching us to hate, by increasing antisemitism, we can also teach them to love. I want to believe that love is the force that moves the world. War is a defeat for everyone. Hate is horrible. It is toxic for the outside world and for the hater."[217]

June 2021: Rachel Zegler is cast as Snow White. The news resulted in backlash from racist Disney fans and right-wing grifters, who took umbrage with Zegler, who is Latina, playing a character associated with being the “fairest of them all.” The conservative backlash echoed similar vitriol targeting Halle Bailey upon her casting in 2023’s The Little Mermaid, as well as the boycotts of 2017’s Beauty and the Beast after the director teased an “exclusively gay moment.”

Just clicked on one of those videos criticizing the movie and one of the first comments was about her race.

Why were people mad at Snow white again, was it the cgi dwarfs?

She fit in perfectly in Fast & Furious...... that was her lane imo....... Wonder Woman and trying to be a true leading lady, carrying a movie........nah not her

I disagree I thought she looked and acted well for THAT version of Wonder Woman

I think this role right here is a VERY important point in her career. She needs to knock this out. I think she will.

Mirror, mirror, on the wall, what's 2025's most controversial movie of them all?
Since the main cast of Disney's Snow White was first announced, the film has been an exhausting subject of controversy. Directed by Marc Webb (500 Days of Summer, The Amazing Spider-Man) and written by Erin Cressida Wilson, the "live-action" remake of 1937's Snow White and the Seven Dwarves promises a more modern telling of the fairy tale, which unspools the story of a lost princess, her evil stepmother, and seven whistling dwarves.
First, people were angry that Rachel Zegler, an actress of Columbian descent, was cast as a character described in the original fairy tale as having "skin as white as snow." Zegler fanned the flames at Disney's D23 expo in 2022 when she criticized the original film's love story and said they would take a different approach. In response, right-wing outlet The Daily Wire announced it would make its own adaptation, with writer Jeremy Boreing saying Disney's remake would "expose children to the popular but destructive lies of the current moment."
See first look at Rachel Zegler as Snow White and Disney's new 7 dwarfs
The remake was also criticized by Peter Dinklage, an actor with dwarfism, for perpetuating "that f---ing backward story about seven dwarfs living in a cave together." When a set photo depicting the actors cast as dwarves surfaced in 2023, revealing that only one of the actors had dwarfism, a fresh wave of criticism rolled in.
Another potential point of contention concerns Zegler and costar Gal Gadot's differing perspectives on the Israel-Palestine conflict in the Middle East, with the Palestinian Campaign for the Academic and Cultural Boycott of Israel calling for a boycott of the film. “By choosing to directly represent genocidal Israel, Gal Gadot’s films are boycottable,” a member of the campaign told The Guardian. Following several news stories hyping the pair's potential "collision course," Zegler addressed those critical of her pro-Palestine stance in an interview with Variety. “I can’t watch children die,” Zegler said. “I don’t think that should be a hot take.”
This week, Variety reported that Disney will limit the film's Hollywood premiere on March 15 to just photographers and a house crew, shutting out the media outlets that typically attend premieres. Though the studio had no comment on the decision, it's likely to avoid any of these minefields from being addressed on the red carpet.
It remains to be seen whether the controversies will impact Snow White's box office performance, though they will most certainly influence the discourse that will surface after its release.
Ahead of its March 21 premiere, here's a look at the Snow White cast and their characters, from the fairy tale's reimagined prince to the Broadway performers portraying its digitally-rendered dwarves.

Rachel Zegler was a 16-year-old theater actress in New Jersey when she responded to an open casting call for Steven Spielberg's West Side Story remake. She was selected to play Maria from over 30,000 applicants and won a Golden Globe for her performance in the beloved musical. It's really like something out of a fairy tale.
Zegler went on to play the leading role of Lucy Gray Baird in The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes (2023), as well as supporting roles in Shazam! Fury of the Gods (2023) and Kyle Mooney's A24 horror-comedy Y2K (2024).
The announcement that Zegler, who is of Colombian descent, would be playing Snow White triggered a racist backlash among certain crowds. She addressed the furor during a 2022 chat with Entertainment Weekly.
"The reality is that the cartoon was made 85 years ago, and therefore is extremely dated when it comes to the ideas of women being in roles of power and what a woman is fit for in the world," she said. "And so when we came to reimagining the actual role of Snow White, it became about 'the fairest of them all' meaning who is the most just, and who can become a fantastic leader."

Last month, she touched on the topic again while speaking with Vogue Mexico. "I interpret people’s feelings about this film as passion for it, and what an honor to be able to be a part of something that people are so passionate about," she said. "We’re not always going to have the same feelings as everyone around us and all we can do is give our best.”

Gal Gadot made her film debut as Gisele Yashar in Fast & Furious (2009), a role she reprised three more times in the Fast franchise. She's likely best known, though, as DC Studios' Wonder Woman, having played the role in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016), Wonder Woman (2017), Justice League (2017), and Wonder Woman 1984 (2020), among other films.
Her other credits include Kenneth Branagh's Death on the Nile (2022) and a pair of Netflix films, Red Notice (2021) and Heart of Stone (2023), the latter of which she also produced.
At Disney's D23 last summer, Gadot said playing the Evil Queen was “completely different" than anything she'd done before. “She’s delicious, she’s evil, she’s magical, I got to sing all these different songs — it was incredible," she said.

A rising star on the stage and screen, Andrew Burnap won a Tony Award in 2021 for his turn in the Broadway production of The Inheritance. Last year, he starred opposite Brandy in the A24 horror film The Front Room.
As Jonathan, Burnap carries a role designed specifically for this version of the story. In an effort to punch up the age-old fairy tale, director Webb and the writers reimagined the dashing prince as a more modern type of love interest. "I would say that Jonathan is less of a full-on prince and more of a reluctant hero," Burnap said in a 2023 interview.
He added, "It's a new story in the sense that it's no longer a princess waiting to be saved by a prince, but a princess waiting to be saved by herself and finding her voice, her strength and her courage and actually, in the end, saving everyone around her."

As the voice and motion capture behind the film's Magic Mirror, Page will determine who's the fairest of them all. Following the trailer's release, Page posted several behind-the-scenes pics of himself on set.

"Many of you who have been to 'Wicked' have seen the trailer for the new 'Snow White' and recognized my voice," he wrote in the caption. “'Famed is thy beauty, Majesty. But hold, a lovely maid I see. Rags cannot hide her gentle grace. Alas, she is more fair than thee.'"
