New Street Fighter Movie On the Way

The english language, as good as it is, just doesn't have enough words to describe just how terrible the Street Fighter movie was. It was the movie that made me first realize that perhaps... just perhaps... Jean Claude van Damme wasn't a great actor after all. But seriously folks, that movie just stunk to high heaven. I've never met a single person who liked it... and that's a rare thing... usually you know at least ONE person who liked even the worst of movies.

Anyway, for some reason Fox has decided to go ahead and do another Street Fighter movie. That's right... another one. I don't think it's a sequel (like I was hoping for a trilogy or something), but more of a "let's pretend the other one doesn't exist" for of film. While that is a good move, it's still a horrible idea.

Componding the mistake, it looks like Fox has hired on director Andrzej Bartkowiak to helm the project. This is the same man responsible for giving us trash like DOOM and Cradle 2 The Grave... so why not give him Street Fighter since he did such a great job with that other video game movie. Ughh.

Justin Marks – penner of the upcoming “He-Man” and “Voltron” movies – did a polish on the script recently. The story apparently fixes on female fighter Chun Li and her journey for justice – as opposed to the first film which focuses on male fighter Col.Guile and his er, journey for justice.

I mean come on now.... is ANYONE going to go see this? Do any of you have even the slightest amount of interest in this project at all? Even a little? I'm as big of a fan of combat tournament movies as anyone... but if I could turn enthusiasm into energy, I couldn't muster enough to fart for this one. (source: moviehole)

street fighter THE GAME was about Ryu and Ken PERIOD. the goal of the game was to develop the ability to get off your moves, combos and counters BEFORE your opponent did the same. the APPEAL was to do it with little to no energy left in your life bar.

Yeah it was. I think they should just stop tryin' to make videogames/comics into movies unless they're gonna keep it true to the comic or game. I don't think that I've seen a videogame/comic movie done right yet.

That's when you have a casting call and put somebody new on. This is what kills me about Hollywood sometimes. Instead of casting an unknown that would better fit the part, they want to bring in an established star that doesn't.

The Street Fighter name alone should be enough to sell the movie.

That's exactly who I was thinking.If the movie is gonna be based around Chun Li it has to be someone the public already knows, a marketable actress.

it would be lame is they used Jessica Biel. If they do that they might as well say fuck it when it comes to race and allow more minorities in movies.

My godbrother used to pick her just so he could look at her legs when we were kids. They're not going to find an Asian woman to look like that. Unless you get someone mixed or Polynesian, it won't be easy to find someone with Chun Li's body. But I am against Jessica Biel playing the part.
