Actually, it was much worse for him.
Kong literally DIED in that film but was saved by humans by "restarting" his heart.
However in this next film, there seems to be a new simian contender for the title "King of the Monsters".
Wait for it on MAX.

I can't say without saying too much I don't to spoil it for anyone just yet.
This is 300 years after the last one
I didn't' see this franchise as going backward. Yes they threw away the Tim Burton Mark Wahlberg version and this franchise is more focused on the original removing the time travel problem(Like Terminator in an original time line how can someone from the future create there own time line. The whole time loop thing)
The Burton/Wahlberg one outside of the confusing ending did not take place on Earth. It was actually another planet.
This series just moves in a forward direction. From a standpoint contained in it's own timeline how the downfall of Mankind occurred and the rise of the Apes. So if the time thing was to happen in the future it would not be a dependency on how things got the way that they are...
I thought this one was good movie.
