This is absolutely not the soulful Ms. Hill we remember back in the 90′s.

not what I was expecting...but the beat is very well done.

Can't wait till she gets comfortable and gets that old flow back.

I think she was going for a more Neo Soul/lounge vibe than hip hop. I like it. It grows on you as the song goes on

Why she ain't talkiin bout twerkin?! don't she know that is the standard of today's music? She better get with the program:hmm:

Welcome back Lauryn:clap:

too much going on with that beat.. had to check if somethin else was playing in the background

Interesting, that many of you pay more attention to the beat than the lyrics... :dunno: For the most part, i go with the lyrics first. I judge most songs according to the lyrics and not the beat.

That beat is kinda wack to me but what do I know. She needs to call Kanye or Timbaland or Pharrell or No ID or somebody for a decent beat and a decent hook. Her flow sounds as crisp and tight as ever.

If you notice most of the older rappers always keep their flow tight and crisp and sometimes even better than it once was. I've seen that happen many times. They just may not have current hit records but of course we all know the market no longer really cares about tight lyrics.

I also notice lots of the east coast lyrical cats don't really put much stock into a song's beats. I noticed that some years back. I can understand it on principle but if a song's beat is not catchy or fire to me than I might as well listen to some poetry acapella if the beat is of no consequence. Makes the beat almost unnecessary. I understand you guys point though. I just see it differently.

Song is all over the place. Just doesn't flow right.

From a technical, lyrical and creative aspect that shit is  Don't care what no one says that shit is fire, cause what impress many Im like :hmm: been there done that and this is one of the few rap song that I am impressed with, talent wise..

Man she coulda gone down as one of the greatest to do it in anything EVER! I think she'll drop a gem, this could be but sounds rushed.

Lauryn switched it up TOO much, and cats aren't ready to accept this new shit.

Lyrically? Lauryn killed this shit.

The beat? It could've been better...

...but, I have hip-hop songs that I listen to for the beats, because that's all they offer. However, my favorite MC ever is Canibus, and we know his beats haven't exactly been of the highest quality.

For me it's always been about songwriting. If you are a dope mc that's great for a battle. The beat is just background noise to keep time.

There have been some great songs throughout time with wack simple or basic lyrics. But how many wack or maybe lackluster or subpar songs have had brilliant lyrics? For the song to be memorable and worth repeated listening the melody needs to be catchy and compelling. That goes for any music genre.
