New HBOMAX Series: Duster - Josh Holloway Says His ‘Answer Is Always Yes’ to J.J. Abrams" CANCELED

Have not watched it yet.

Season one is 8 episodes.

My TV ADHD has progressed over the years, I can’t do weekly series nowadays.

I gotta wait until all the episodes debut and binge them together.
Yeah noticed this the other day. Got to check it out

It's good. Checked it out with pops the other day and we both enjoyed the pacing and introduction of the assorted characters. Held our interest.

Our current rotation of shows lately has been MobLand, Godfather of Harlem and Hacks.

We're looking forward to The Bear returning in 1 month as the above shows will be done by then, and Duster should end in late-June or early-July.

Digging this show so far...interesting characters, pacing, kinda campy, takes place in my favorite era with some historical nuggets and acknowledgement of the social/political climate at the time.

well written Black characters in prominent roles

I'm all in

Been enjoying it too. The cars, music, characters. Even the more serious / sentimental moments work pretty well.

My dad sent me this link (earlier in this thread) this month to read over ...

I NEVER thought this concept would work a throwback adult modernization of the 70s cop show / anti hero.

But it DOES,

I’m gonna be home 4th of July weekend.

The season finale is July 3. Gonna binge the season when I’m home that weekend.

Looking forward to it.

Good season thus far, B.

Assortment of characters ... good music / score ... cool cars.

One of my fave scenes of the series involves fireworks. I said to my pops when watching that - "That scene must have been fun to film!"

Season One

6/10

I started this series last at home and finished up this morning watching it on MAX.

The series is set in the early 1970s in the Phoenix, AZ. area. It’s mainly a crime thriller.

The premise is nothing new and has been done a zillion times since the 1960s in film/tv series. This series does a good refresh of a “Old Story”.

Opening credit roll is done nicely in animation. They use the animation style from “Love, Death & Robots” with the miniature high speed episodes.

Action is sparse thru-out the season, but what is shown will keep you glued to the screen. There isn’t much driving action with the 1970 Plymouth Duster the way the trailer makes it out. The majority of the action with the car is in Episode 1.

There is a decent supporting cast of well known actors that help out with the series and do their roles perfectly.

For the Thirsty, the main female character “Agent Nina” played by Rachel Hilson will keep your eyes glued to the screen. Ol’ gurl is rocking that Afro wig hard. There is a scene with her in a Nurse outfit with knee high brown boots that will get you worked up. Actress Sydney Elisabeth “Genesis” is Thick as a Brick Shithouse. Ol’ Gurl got some Big Juggs on her. You don’t see her nude or anything, but there are some good cleavage shots.

For the Gay Agenda trackers, “Genesis” is a lesbian. All that is shown is PDA.

Overall, it’s mainly a “Mindless Entertainment” series. They closed the main storylines for season one and set it up for a season 2. MAX has not announced a 2nd season. The series started strong in numbers but dropped as it went along. This isn’t a “Watch Weekly” series and I think that’s what hurt it. It definitely plays out better if you binge all the episodes at one time or over 2 days like how I did it.

I guarantee they made the decision to cancel it before the first episode aired.

Damn that was a fast release and immediate cancellation. This was a pretty good watch. I enjoyed it. The lead actress is super small, but I enjoyed looking at her fine ass. I will always give Abrams credit as he has tried over and over again to put Black talent out front, and in different, quality episodic series. People just don't watch them. It's a very odd problem for directors, Black talent and consumers that want to see Black people acting in different artistic settings :hmm:

HBO Max is one odd streaming platform:smh:

F**k

And with a huge cliffhanger ending too.

I knew it. Why even do one season when you know your not gonna support it.

Duster, which reunited Lost co-creator/executive producer Abrams and star Holloway, was originally ordered in April 2020. It filmed awhile ago, so the options on the cast already had expired and were not extended (which is not highly unusual for HBO Max), sources said.
