The Brooklyn Nets reached a verbal commitment with veteran guard Jerry Stackhouse on a one-year deal worth $1.3 million, sources close to the process told ESPN.com's Chad Ford.

The 17-year veteran played last season with the Atlanta Hawks, averaging 3.6 points in 30 games.

Stackhouse spent the last year as a veteran presence off the bench for the Hawks. The Nets will look to him to be a veteran stabilizing force in the locker room more than the impact player he used to be on the court.

Stackhouse, 37, has career averages of 17.4 points, 3.4 assists and 3.3 rebounds in his career. He was the league's second-leading scorer in 2000-01 when he averaged a career-best 29.8 points but hasn't played more than 40 games since the 2009-10 season when he averaged 8.5 points in 42 games with the Milwaukee Bucks.

Shit they could've signed me and I would've put up those numbers! We all know Jerry wears his street clothes under his warmups because he know's he's not playing!

I swore I saw Charles Barkley trying to limber up... waiting for the call

just turrible

Say what you want but he could still hit the open jumper and that's what we need. If Mike Miller could have a major impact in the playoffs with a slew of injuries, then I think Jerry could do so as well for a fraction of the price Miller is getting.

I'm gonna be the killjoy in this humor thread but ain't Grant Hill (39) still in the league and y'all clownin Stackhouse (37). I would sign Grant to my team in a minute at 39. Didn't Steve Nash (38) just sign to the Lakers. Stack days been over but y'all acting like he's the oldest player in the league.

.... didn't Juwan Howard (52) just help the Heat win a championship.

A team will expect more out of Grant Hill. We're not saying Jerry's a bum or anything, it's just he'll only be in during blowouts.

Juwan did give a couple of "Way to go fellas" and " Keep up the good works" so I guess he did "Help" the Heat win.

Yes sir. We need shooters and rebounders. If we could get players who could do both (Hump and Gerald Green) we should be in good standing.

The Howard deal is probably a wrap
