I swear I don't know what the big rush is anyway. The Knicks who the lead the league in scoring...........are in a frenzy to get a dude that scores? Woooooooow. Melo has all that talent around him and Denver and has one conference Finals appearance to show for it. Dude has all the championship pieces there. Scorers? Check. Defense ? Check. Point guard AND big man play? Check. With all that dude still couldn't even deliver a finals appearance.
The Knicks gonna max dude out and then so
What for a big man? The Knicks should go for a cat like Chris Kaman or even try some super shit for Dwight Howard, but the last thing a team that leads the league in scoring needs is another scorer who happens not to play
Much defense
Come on man. You're saying you know bball right? To start with the Knicks, they do lead the league in scoring, this is true. But have you watched the Knicks offense when Amare Stoudemire sits? I don't think you do. When he sits the Knicks tend to get lost on offense, and on that team, even though they score alot, they don't have a second player who's night in night out guaranteed.
They're scoring well, but come playoff time they can get stymied. With Carmelo you have a guy who can hit from range, mid range, run on the break, post up. He scores in so many ways and statistically one of the most clutch players in the NBA. There's no one in the east who can guard Carmelo. With Amare and Melo they'll have two potent scorers. Their defense is weak, yes. But D'Antoni doesn't coach defense. With a better defensive coach they could institute a team defense that can be effective without having really good man defenders.
As far as Denver. That team has battled injury for seasons now. Seems every season someone important is missing significant time. One thing we've seen is, when Denver is the better team, Denver wins. In that conference finals they weren't the best team, and you can remember the Conference finals?
Four out of the six games came down to the team that won the fourth quarter. The Nuggets big men barely showed up in that series, Pau Gasol, Andrew Bynum and Lamar Odom were too much for them up front.
You can't hold it against Carmelo that the Nuggets didn't beat the Lakers. I don't understand where you get championship pieces from. Kenyon Martin was never a championship piece and is over paid, Chris Andersen is a decent role player, JR Smith is a headcase, Dahntay Jones never played for a contender, then you have Linas Kleiza.
Who's left? Chauncey Billups and Carmelo Anthony. The Lakers starting five of
Fish
Kobe
Ariza
Gasol
Bynum
and Odom as the sixth man was simply better than
Billups
Jones
Melo
Martin
Nene
and JR Smith as sixth man.
And then Chris Kaman. Maaaaaaaan. You gotta be kidding me. Chris Kaman is not a good defender. He's just tall. He's slow, not athletic, and overpaid. 3 of his last four seasons he's spent a good deal of time being injured, and he lost his starting job to DeAundre Jordan in LAC, a rookie selected in the second round. Not to mention he doesn't even fit the Knicks playing style at all.
As far as Dwight? That's a pipe dream right now. The last thing the Knicks should be doing is holding off another year for a superstar when they could potentially land one now. Then do you think Dwight Howard would fit alongside Amare? What the Knicks need to do is get who they can get now - Melo, and hire a coach specifically to teach them a team defense.
