Ignore that fool. You have a couple of posters on this board specifically who when they hear ideas/questions they respond with generic/round-about answers that really does not amount to shit. I wish I had an answer for you but I do not...but rest assured someone will and even though your question is general they will at least be decent enough to give you a starting point to work from. In the meantime I suggest doing some homework for yourself via Google/Yahoo...I would try 'search engines' and see what you come up with.

Leroy do you even know what you are saying? Someone is saying he wants to go into e-biz, he does not want to start with a small site, he does not want to start with normal stuff, he wants to start with his own search engine? Yet, he does not even know the basics of web creation?

Ok great, it's one thing to dream big, it's another to be delusional. He is delusional. First and foremost, he needs to get lots and lots of space, then he needs to get spiders which will crawl the web for him, then he needs to get an algorithm that will sort the info out and put it out in a format that makes sense.

For someone who does not even know the basics, to go into that kind of undetaking is insanity. Kind of like me saying I want to be a brain surgeon, and I have not even passed high school biology.

i know the basics i wanted to know how to get all the info for a search engine meaning how do i get the info on my site that would come up when someone typed a search. If you wanted to be a brain surgeon and i had info and could help you i wouldn't tell you your delusional if you didn't have a high school diploma because at one point any brain didn't have a high school diploma or didn't know squat about brain surgery but it took help and applying themselves to get there. As long as im trying that should be your only concern.

I don't want to rain on your parade, but unless your "search engine" is something specialized, then I doubt it will get much play. You have to put yourself into the mind of the consumer. When they want to look for something, what do they do? Where do they turn? Its not all about just putting up a product, you have to put up something that is comparable or better than the competition, or something that is similar, but unique, and not in name only. And that's not the biggest part...

You have to SELL your idea to the customer. You have to get the name out in front of them. You have to make them aware...that's where marketing and advertising come in. For the longest time, the big search engines were Yahoo!, MSN, Lycos, AltaVista, etc. Personally, I think Lycos and AltaVista fell by the wayside. I never use them. Oh, I forgot eXcite, they fell off too. The biggest player in the last few years has been Google, and it is remarkable how they took the same concept and added a twist to it that people loved.

Ask yourself, are you ready to market your product? Do you know who your target audience is? Do you know the demographics of the customers you are trying to reach? Do you have the right amount of funding? Is your idea something revolutionary, or an improvement on something already existing? I'm glad Leroy and others are supporting you, but I feel ActivationWizard on this one. It's gonna be an uphll battle. If you have the answers to these questions, you are ready to begin your journey. But if not, I strongly suggest you get the answers or think of another venture.
