"Name" players could be dealt before Feb. trade deadline

Monday, Jan 14, 2008 4:26 pm EST

Seldom, if ever, has there been so many quality players available before the in-season trade deadline. In conversations with several general managers and player personnel directors within the last week, here is a list of some "name'' players who could be relocated to a different zip code by next month:

New Jersey Nets guard Jason Kidd, Philadelphia 76ers guard Andre Miller, Los Angeles Lakers forward Lamar Odom, Sacramento Kings point guard Mike Bibby, Phoenix Suns power forward-center Amare Stoudemire, Suns forward Shawn Marion, Atlanta Hawks forward Josh Smith, Chicago Bulls small forwards Luol Deng and Andres Nocioni and center Ben Wallace, and Houston Rockets shooting guard Tracy McGrady.

Amare?? No way. What are they gonna do? Replace him with Pao Gasol?? And why would they trade Stoudamire AND Marion. Steve Nash won't have anybody left to pass to

Yeah You Right That Would Be A Dumb Move But If They Don't Get Over The Hump This Year They May Need To Make Some Moves.

From what I hear, Damon Stoudamire and Sam Cassell will not be bought out before the deadline. Their teams will try to trade them. Either one of them will have a spot in Boston waiting for them.

There has been rumblings that McGrady will be traded as well.

Boston Should Not Go After Sam Cassell But I Do Think Sam Should Go Somewhere Like Back To Houston And Be The Point Guard There And Help T-Mac And Yao Out And Plus He Would Be Going Back To H-Town Where He Won 2 Rings Already.

They do need to make a move for a center. But not for Amare. They could try to move Marion for a center and slide Amare back into the 4 spot, but he has to be an uptempo type, like a Marcus Camby TYPE player, not a bruiser like Shaq or Curry

But to be honest, that type of center just doesn't exist outside of an Emeka Okafor or Dwight Howard and giving up Marion just wouldn't be worth anything less than that

They just need to stay put. Only team they can't get past is SA and that's only because of Duncan. Eventually, they will if they stay the course.

Boston would be stupid to bring either one of them selfish ass PGs into the team. Unless they know coming in, that RONDO is the PG and they are just a caddy.....

even then, bad idea to muck with the chemistry now that it's working.

I Think Damon Or Cassell Would Be A Great Addition Cause Usually When A Veteran Player Comes Into A Situation Like When Shaq Went To Miami They realize Thier Role Alot Sooner Then Younger Players

Boston needs a backup at the point. See how they got bogged down when Rondo was out?

I believe Amare can opt out after next year. That will be an older team by then and may be past their window. Phoenix may try and get max value for him this year as opposed to him telling the media he will opt out next year and his value being half what it is now this time next season.

Yes, they need a backup, but that's something you take care of in the off season. For now, you use what you have. Bringing in a new face that late (trade deadline is next month) in the season is a risky proposition. Chemistry is a fickle thing. You don't want your PG having to learn how to play with his new teamates on the fly like that. Learning where they like the ball, how to get it to them, etc.

They just to take time to develop the guy they already have. Tony Allen. And the only way to do that is by trial and error. Playing time

The Atlanta Hawks Need To Make Some Trades I Wonder What Are They Waiting On.

There Are A Few People That Need New Teams Like Jermaine O'neal & Or Jamal Tinsley, Lamar Odom, Larry Hughes, Shawne Marion, & Or Amare Stoudmire, Dirk Nowitski, etc....

Sam either wants to go to either Denver (because of Karl) and Boston (because of KG.)

I'm hearing stories of Webber to Golden State as well..

The Hawks Need To Go After Jamal Tinsley He Would Be A Good Fit For Them And Try To Get Jermaine O'Neal.

Sam Wouldn't Fit What Denver Is Trying To Do And Boston Don't Need To Shake There Team Up It Might Mess There Chemistry Up So I Would Say Sam Need To Go To The Houston Rockets.

Chris Webber Needs To Go To The Lakers He Would Be A Good Fit There Or The Spurs They Could Use Him As A Backup.

Webber actually fits with the triangle offense.

Sources: Stoudamire, Grizzlies Agree On Buyout
January 26, 2008 - 6:46 pm
RealGM Staff Report -
Marc Stein of ESPN.com has reported that the Memphis Grizzlies and point guard Damon Stoudamire have reached a verbal agreement on a contract buy-out that will make him a free agent next week.

The buy-out is scheduled to take place on Monday, and once Stoudamire clears the 48-hour wavier period he can officially sign with a new team.

The report was confirmed by NBA front office sources.

The Atlanta Hawks Need To Make Some Trades I Wonder What Are They Waiting On.

The Hawks don't have anyone with trade value who they seem to want to trade. I think they're trying to keep Smith, Johnson and Horford. And I'm not sure how much value Marvin Williams has especially since salaries have to match up in a trade.

Sources: Kidd Wants Out Of New Jersey
January 27, 2008 - 10:34 am
RealGM Staff Report -
New Jersey's Star-Ledger has reported that Jason's Kidd's agent Jeff Schwartz has asked Nets' President Rod Thorn to trade his client to a contender before February's trade deadline. The information was received from several unnamed league sources.

The problems continue to add up for Thorn as trading Kidd will not be easy if he wants to get even close to equal value in return.

"Right now things are going very poorly for us," Thorn told the Star-Ledger. "Historically, those are the times when you don't get offered what you might consider fair deals. And sometimes you feel that maybe you should do something to do something, but those are the times you have to be very cognizant and careful about what the results of your actions might be."

i knew chris webber wasn't joining the fakers. the fakers weren't interested in a big short term contract.

:hmm:Was this the trade for Kobe in the summer?? The reason because bulls wouldn't trade Deng. So they see they chemistry didn't work, so now they decide to let him go?! :hmm:

We need to let Pau's ass go ASAP, He has stupid hands, he's inconsistent, and he screams goin to the rim for LAYUPS :smh:

Webber Signs With Golden State, Hudson Waived
January 29, 2008 - 3:01 pm
RealGM Staff Report -
The Golden State Warriors have signed free agent forward/center Chris Webber to a contract, Executive Vice President of Basketball Operations Chris Mullin announced on Tuesday in a press release. Per team policy, terms of the agreement were not announced.

To make room on the roster for Webber’s arrival, the Warriors have waived guard Troy Hudson. Originally signed as a free agent on September 24, 2007, Hudson appeared in nine games this season, averaging 3.1 points and 1.0 assists in 10.4 minutes per contest. He last appeared in a game on December 12 and underwent surgery on his left hip on January 10.

Webber, 34, appeared in 61 games (60 starts) last season with Philadelphia (18 games) and Detroit (43 games), averaging 11.2 points, 7.2 rebounds and 3.1 assists in 29.9 minutes per contest, while shooting 50.9% from the field.

“We’re glad that Chris has elected to sign with our club and feel fortunate to add a player with his ability,” said Mullin. “We think he will be a nice addition to our team and provide additional depth to our frontcourt and an added veteran presence on the floor. Chris has enjoyed a lot of success in this league and certainly has many aspects to his game – in particular his mid-range shooting and passing ability - that will fit in well and provide us another dimension.”

“It is with great pride and humility that I announce my return to the Golden State Warriors , the place where it all started,” said Webber. “This organization and city has always had a special place in my heart because it is where my dream of being an NBA player first came true. I am looking forward to playing with Baron, Stephen and the rest of the crew and I am extremely excited to be reunited with the fans of Oakland along with Coach Nelson and my former teammate, Mully. In playing for Nellie before, I know how much fun his style of ball can be. I believe great things are in store and I can’t wait to get on the court.”

Man I'm Reppin For The Raptors And Hawks So I Hope Both Of Them Teams Can Improve Themselves By Making A Good Trade So They Can Get Over The Top Even If It's Not A Big Trade But Just Something To Get A Little Exciting From.

The Raptors Need To Try And Get A Big Man To Go With Bosh.
The Hawks Need To Revamp There Whole Team, But Keep Al Horford, Joe Johnson, & Marvin Williams The Rest They Can Trade And Get Some Better Talent.

Raptors need a cut and slash wing player if they want to get past the 1st round, man I wish Shawn Marion went to TO he could have been huge there.

Kidd, agent warn Nets against sending him to lottery team

Monday, Feb 11, 2008 1:29 pm EST

With the trading deadline only 10 days away, Jason Kidd has sent word, via his agent, Jeff Schwartz, to the New Jersey Nets that the team had better not try to send him to any team but a contender if they decide to move the face of the franchise.

Nets sources said the message came with the warning that Schwartz will steer other clients away from New Jersey in the future if they try to send Kidd to a lottery team.

I'm a huge Jason Kidd fan but players these days sure are acting like bitches.

Guys need to realize that you are not promised a championship and if you and your team isn't good enough to get it done, you can't ask for a buy-out or ask to be traded to a contender.

:smh: @ players like Jason Kidd thinking they are entitled to winning a championship.

Teams and players that do things the right way will get rewarded much quicker than those that try to weasel their way out of a commitment to go on to a team that they think they can win a title win.

It's sickening.

I Know Man And They Get Paid All This Damn Money But Always Want Something To Go There Way, Jason Kidd Need To Man Up And Wherever Team NJ Wants To Trade Him Too He Need To Go There Look At Shawn Marion He Went From A Championship Contender With The Suns And Now He Is With A Rebuilding Miami Heat Team And He Ain't Crying So Jason Kidd Need To Stop Bitching.

reminds me of how tobe's agent extorted the nets into NOT drafting him with the 8th pick. some say shrew business tactics, others call bullshit for no integrity.

i agree in most part with you. funny how shit is all jokes and giggles when signing on the dotted line for a MAX contract, but when shit turns sour they can't find the door quick enough.

in the past, that was the turning point that would separate the men from the boys.

I just thought it was funny that he and his representation said "Better not trade me to a lottery team or else..." GTFOH.

That's inexcusable to me.

As I said, I am a fan of Kidd's game but you can't buy championships, you have to earn them.

Speaking of Wobe, I found it interesting that he demanded a trade yet non of the teams vying for him could get a deal done or put certain restrictions on what they would give up.

Yet, when Shaquille O'Neal became available, you have championship contending teams offering arguably their best players to the Heat to get the big fella.

You'd think the opposite would be when the "Greatest player since Jordan" was available and not some "washed up, overweight has been"

Rumor has it that the Nuggets are considering trading for either Mike Miller or Ron Artest. If they bring in Artest, it will be the dumbest move ever. I'm all for Mike Miller though.
