as if the MVP award wasn't already tainted enough by having shit-for-brains sports journalists vote on it, now we have this over-the-top sleazy propaganda campaign by the fakers.

:puke:

Hornets' Paul is the other main contender, and voting could come down to the Western Conference standings.
By Mike Bresnahan, Los Angeles Times Staff Writer
April 10, 2008
The top spot in the Western Conference might not be the only thing decided in the final regular-season games.

Some voters might simply select Kobe Bryant or New Orleans guard Chris Paul as the league's most valuable player based on which team finishes better in the West, Lakers Coach Phil Jackson said.

"I think winning the West is probably going to be the most important thing as far as that goes. It's going to have a big influence," said Jackson, who has reiterated his support for Bryant numerous times over the last few weeks. But Jackson acknowledged that Paul was also playing at a high level: "I think that Chris has certainly vaulted into that position where he seriously has to be considered."

The Lakers are two games behind the first-place Hornets, with the regular season ending next Wednesday.

There were 129 writers and broadcasters who voted for the MVP award last season. On-the-fence voters get a chance to see the Lakers and Hornets play each other Friday at Staples Center.

Bryant's 28.7-point scoring average this season is second in the league to Cleveland forward LeBron James. Bryant is averaging 6.4 rebounds a game, the second-highest in his career, and 5.4 assists a game, tied for third-best in his career.

Paul is averaging 21.3 points and leads the league in assists (11.4 a game) and steals (2.7 a game) before Wednesday's game.

Bryant, in his 12th season, has never won the award. Paul, in his third season, has also not won it.

The Lakers usually let the fortunes of their players rest on their own achievements, but the team took the added step of sending out pro-Bryant material to NBA writers around the league.

The material was based on an old-style political election campaign and consisted of bumper stickers, campaign buttons, red suspenders and a letter from "campaign manager" Jerry Buss, who urged writers to vote for Bryant.

"From the owner on down, the organization feels that Kobe has had a season worthy of an MVP award," said Tim Harris, the Lakers' chief marketing officer and senior vice president of business operations. "Sending this out is not something we have historically done, but his performance and leadership warrants it."

MVP ballots are due when the regular season ends. The winner is usually announced during the second round of the playoffs, in mid-May.

Of 21 NBA writers polled informally by Mark Heisler, The Times' NBA columnist, 10 selected Bryant, eight selected Paul, two picked Boston forward Kevin Garnett and one chose James.

With an increased number of newspapers withdrawing from voting because of potential conflict-of-interest issues, only six of the 21 planned to vote this season. (Three chose Bryant and three chose Paul.) The Times will not vote for an MVP.

whatever happened to simply being so clearly head and shoulders above the competition that your play distinguished you as an MVP? the fakers didn't need to bribe MVP voters for shaquille o'neal.

:smh:

Kobe Bryant, Chris Paul in a duel for MVP
A survey of basketball beat writers shows that the award is a two-man race between the Lakers and New Orleans stars
By Mark Heisler / On the NBA

April 9, 2008

Lakerdom, behind the scenes...

Over the weekend, I asked 21 NBA writers from 19 cities and two websites for their first, second and third MVP picks for this season, and the result was...

Too close to call.

The Lakers' Kobe Bryant, named by all 21, had 10 first-place votes, eight seconds and three thirds.

New Orleans' Chris Paul, named by all 21, had 8-9-4.

Boston's Kevin Garnett was a distant third, named on 15 ballots with 2-3-10.

Only four players were named, the last being LeBron James of Cleveland, who made six ballots and got 1-1-4.

This is like polling for the Pennsylvania primary, interesting but almost as far out. The primary is April 22. The MVP race will go right down to the league's deadline for submitting ballots, after the NBA regular season ends April 16.

Two voters who had Bryant first and Paul second joked about changing their mind hourly. Both said they'll go with Paul if his Hornets finish No. 1 in the Western Conference.

This is only a test of general sentiment. With more and more newspapers withdrawing from the process (as The Times has), only six writers in this poll have actual votes.

(For what it's worth, three of those had Paul first and three had Bryant first.)

What this does suggest is it's a two-man race.

Garnett galvanized the Celtics, who weren't even a consensus pick to win the East. However, his candidacy is undercut by missing nine games but even more by playing alongside two stars, Paul Pierce and Ray Allen.

I'm surprised to see James run this well. As good as he is, he's not generally considered the game's best player -- that would be Bryant -- and his Cavaliers are fourth in the East, 19 1/2 games out of first.

"If it stopped the way it is, I think Chris Paul has been outstanding and his team has been the top of the charts," said two-time MVP Steve Nash.

"It's the team, your impact on your team and what you do overall. Let's face it, he has been unbelievable. His scoring, his assisting, he's a leader in steals. He shoots a good percentage. He put his team on his back in the fourth quarter. That's what it's about. He doesn't have the players around him that Kobe has."

SOooooooooooooo...I wonder what happened with Stern's plans to push Euro players?

why aren't you glued to the TV? your boys have a big game tonight.

david stern can't afford to push any more garbage euros because he still has egg on his face from dirk nowitzski.

too bad that hasn't dissuaded the fakers from sending out free swag to bribe sports "journalists" for their votes. :(

Denver up 8 with less than a minute left.

If you think these are bad, you should've read the one on yahoo sports by Adrian Wojorehchahtahuthishtus saying that Wobe should be given (not having earned it) the MVP as a "life time achievement" award.

Chris Paul should be MVP this year.

I just think it's funny that a team's play was elevated because of a key trade during the season (Pau Gasol) and that trade allowing for the improved play of Lamar Odom as being the real reason that the lakers are playing well.

If you can give a guy the MVP award because of what others around him are doing, after the fact that the guy shitted on his teammates and management early in the season, then the award is a true disgrace.

Even worse of a taint than when Dirk NoHEARTski won it last year. :smh:

Like I said on the main board, tell me if you thought that the hornets would be leading the division and have a shot at the #1 seed at the beginning of the year...

And these media cats think Kobe should be MVP? That would make 4 straight years that award went to the wrong person... :smh:

This is the only place I get this type of sound logic.

Kobe is the typical quitter. When things are good, he's good. When things are bad, he is front and center the detractor.

MVP for Kobe? No doubt the Lakers team is much improved. However as you stated intelligently earlier, Gasol is the reason. He should get more votes than Kobe. Since he came on board the Lakers have been dominant.Odom is playing like the Odom I saw here in Miami. The rest of the team is passing beautifully. Lets not forget the veteran leadership of Fisher either. All moves of the much maligned Mitch.

This Kobe for MVP is a joke. Paul is obviously the player, and he does it all. Chandler was considered a bust before he made GM's look foolish this season with his energetic play. This is due to Paul's positive attitude. Paul has pot that team on the map.

If Kobe wins it it will be business as usual in a league that gave it to Dirk last year.

Eh ya'll lets face.....they gonna give that award to kobe....as much as chris paul deserves it this year, it's a lock for kobe....i think he shouldnt get because if you take paul off the hornets and they probably win 20 or 30 games easy......w/o kobe they showed you yesterday that they would have at least made it to the playoffs....i think it's alot of behind the scenes bullshit of what they call the nba now.....:smh::smh::smh:

:yes: he straight cried like a bitch at the end of last season......And no one can answer this question.....If you have have shaq, why do you just let him get traded? Hell if shaq would have stayed and got in shape like he was suppose to, hell they may have been still winning nba championships

Paul, 11.7 assists (leading league), 21 ppg and 2.7 steals (that's gotta be close to leading the league as well), plus the Hornets' record, that's MVP status. They'll probably rob him tho.

U should add a poll on who should get it...

Anyone in the NBA can have a season better then kobe, people gone always say he cry to much, he do this he do that..Haters, this is Chis second third year and Kobe been in the league for 11 years, if he has not won it now he never will.

There will always be someone better then dude, he has to many haters. Fuck your MVP, we will take the trophey. Let Chris Paul have the little statue with a White Man on it.

you take kobe out the line up, the lakers gon make the play offs.. you take CP out the line up, them niggaz dead last.

you're just a fucking hater.

how can you overlook all of tobe's outstanding, miraculous accomplishments this season?

take a look:

1) 2008 league leader in field goals attempted (as he also did in 2006 and 2007). - PROOF THAT HE'S THE GREATEST PLAYER EVER.

2) played on a fakers squad that built an incredible 35-20 (.636) record without pau gasol. - WHO CARES IF PAU GASOL LEAD THEM TO A 22-5 (.815) RECORD?

3) was the picture of good sportsmanship as he dethroned rasheed wallace and took over as the reigning 2008 technical foul champion.

and i saved the MOST convincing evidence for last:

4) tobe got 13 year old white girls wearing his jersey to chant "MVP" in visiting stadiums. - IF THAT'S NOT CLEAR CUT EVIDENCE, I DON'T KNOW WHAT IS.

STFU, because the MVP is "much deserved"

:smh:

yet another fucking hater, i see.

don't you know anything about basketball? that commercial wasn't proof of why he should win MVP.

knowledgeable BGOL members who put the number "8" in their usernames have told me that performing in that commercial:

1) shows that tobe has the soul of a warrior, (WHICH IS GOOD, BECAUSE THE LAST COUPLE POST-SEASONS SURE DIDN'T)

2) proves tobe has a daredevil spirit that needs to constantly surpass the boundaries of human abilities, (WHICH JUST REMINDS US THAT THE SPIRIT MAY BE WILLING, BUT THE FLESH SOMETIMES ISN'T)

3) exhibits a willingness to participate in extreme risk-taking, which is a psychological trait possessed by all great talents. (SO WHAT DOES IT SAY WHEN ALL THE RISK WAS REMOVED?)

eat that, buster.

Most field goals attempted?? Thats a positive stat????:lol:

Most field goals attempted?? Thats a positive stat?

what's so funny? you want some too, little man? then bring it!

i know what you're up to. you're clearly a hater because you're trying to take away 1 of tobe's league leading statistical categories. well, i'm watching you now, and i'm not gonna let you diminish the fact that he hurled the most bricks out of any player in the NBA.

i mean, WHO CARES that chris paul was the 2008 league leader in assists, steals and win shares? tobe is the MVP because he takes the most shots, and that's what lead the fakers to a 35-20 record, which was good enough for 6th seed in the west.

yeah, i know, you're such a hater that you'll probably bring up that loser lebron james too. WHO CARES that lebron james lead the league in field goals made, points per game, player efficiency rating and usage percentage? all those stats are meaningless compared to tobe, who jacked up enough bricks to build a house.

"much deserved", bitches!

It's obvious that Wobe is more phony than a 3 dollar bill. I wonder sometimes how he has ANY fans.

Kobe pleased with Lakers' progress, says he wants to stay put:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

LOS ANGELES -- Kobe Bryant made clear Monday what's been, at the very least, a bit ambiguous for nearly a year: He "absolutely" wants to stay with the Lakers and is open to finishing his career with them.

This, after questioning the direction of the franchise during the offseason and criticizing the job performance of general manager Mitch Kupchak.

"I've always wanted to be here," Bryant said the day after the Lakers beat the Denver Nuggets 128-114 in their playoff series opener. "I just felt like I was in a position where I didn't really have a choice. They wanted to go in an opposite direction. My legs aren't as young as they used to be. Just let me know.

"I love the weather. I love my '63 drop-top Impala. I love the 405 [freeway]. I love my guys."

Bryant acknowledged he wouldn't have imagined things would have turned out this way late last May, when he publicly called the Lakers' front office a mess and demanded a trade, feeling he had been misled when he signed a seven-year, $136.4 million contract in July 2004. The Lakers haven't won a playoff series since.

"I've been sitting on this for four years now," he said. "After three or four years of not getting anything done, to see it today, it feels pretty damn good. It's been a hell of a ride."

As far as Kupchak goes, Bryant said his GM has gone from an "F" to an "A-plus."

"He believed in the draft picks he made, he had the patience," Bryant said.

Among the picks who have made significant impacts since Shaquille O'Neal was traded following the 2004 season are Andrew Bynum, Sasha Vujacic, Jordan Farmar and Ronny Turiaf.

And this season, there were the trades for Trevor Ariza and Pau Gasol. Ariza hasn't played since breaking his foot Jan. 20, but Gasol has been brilliant.

"I just think his skill set at his size is unmatched in this league," Bryant said of Gasol, who had 36 points, 16 rebounds and eight assists against Denver in Game 1.

Bryant said he didn't know if he thought he helped push Kupchak into action.

"Maybe. It takes pressure sometimes to make a diamond," Bryant said with a smile. "In hindsight, yeah, that was my strategy. I'm going to get my Phil Jackson on and say I planned it all along."

Bryant had harsh words for Lakers owner Jerry Buss and Kupchak last spring.

And now?

"Nah," he replied when asked if there were any lingering bad feelings toward anyone in the organization. "On the serious side, I learned a lesson, which is you have to separate business from the love of the game because there were a lot of decisions that were made business-wise that I wasn't happy with. I took a lot of the blame for a lot of the stuff they were doing. It didn't sit right with me. It still doesn't sit right with me. But you have to be able to separate that from the love that you have for the game of basketball and the respect that you have for your team."

Bryant and Buss met in Barcelona a few weeks after his trade demand, and he again told Buss he wanted out. Then, understanding the difficulty of trading someone of his ability, Bryant said all the right things entering training camp in October, but the peace was broken a few weeks later when Buss said he would "certainly listen to trade offers."

The situation was tenuous at best when the season began, and stories circulated throughout November concerning potential trade possibilities. The speculation stopped, Bryant stayed and the Lakers flourished, going 57-25 to earn the No. 1 seed in the Western Conference.

The 29-year-old Bryant, a leading candidate to win his first MVP award, has stated on several occasions that his 12th NBA season has been the most enjoyable, and did so again Monday.

He said he hasn't necessarily changed his mind about wanting to stay instead of wanting to leave.

"No, I just don't talk about it," Bryant said. "These are answers I've given all year long. I love this team. If they want to win right now, I'm all for them. That's all I've said the whole time. We have a job to do here, so it's important to focus on what we're doing and not get distracted from that.

"I don't want any big stories. The journey we've been on is fun. It's been a blast. With that being said, we play for titles. We want to win the championship. We'll be disappointed if we don't. But if it does happen, we'll regroup and go at it again. We've got some great pieces here. Now it's time to put it all together. We get that big fellow [Bynum] back down there and we'll really be rolling."

Bynum, though, appears to be a longshot for the playoffs. His left knee isn't 100 percent, and Jackson said his chances of playing this postseason are "remote."

Bryant is under contract through the 2010-11 season, but can opt out after next season. He said he hasn't thought about that. He opted out four years ago before signing a new contract.

2. how you call this a faker squad before Gasol got there? Odom, Farmar, Walton, Bynum, Radmanvic, Fisher, etc...? AGAIN, take Kobe out, and these niggaz still make the playoffs.. take Chris Paul out the picture, them niggaz DEAD ASS LAST!

3. he didn't take rasheed's throne. he still holds his title as BITCH of the league. not sure why he demands MJ calls, but nobody cry more than him over WEAK touches.

fine. i'm gonna have to pull out the BIG guns and just drop you where you stand right now.

name me ONE player, just ONE other player in the entire NBA who could score 1,700 points this season and only need 1,690 field goal attempts to do it.

i thought so, bitch. that's right. only tobe could score 1,700 points and need 1,690 shots to do it.

case close. let me repeat that 1 more time for the hard of reading: 1,700 points from a mere 1,690 shots. INCREDIBLE.

see, all you tobe haters do is try to bring tobe down. this just proves how dedicated and hard-working tobe is when he sets his mind to do something.

for years allen iverson lead the league in field goal attempts. so what did tobe do? he spent his summers at the library reading every book he could find on advanced masonry. then he went home and played NBA Live for hours. he put in mad work to get where he is today. and look how it paid off. 3 CONSECUTIVE SEASONS as NBA LEADER of FIELD GOAL ATTEMPS. fuck a shaquille o'neal and 3 consecutive finals MVPs. tobe has 3 consecutive field goal attempts championships.

3. he didn't take rasheed's throne. he still holds his title as BITCH of the league. not sure why he demands MJ calls, but nobody cry more than him over WEAK touches.

just more proof of tobe's greatness. first he took allen iverson's claim to fame, then he took rasheed wallace's. tobe can do whatever he sets his mind to. hell, in a couple years tobe will be 2nd or 3rd highest in turnovers for active players too. bet all you haters will be out in full force trying to deny him that title too.

you tobe hating bitches always want to avoid talking about the past, because you know HE WAS ROBBED of the MVP the past 2 seasons.

check this for 2007: 1,763 points on 1,757 FGAs. AWESOME.

peep this for 2006: 2,136 points on 2,173 FGAs. GAME OVER.

i could play this game with you all day, son. i do believe this is what the young folks mean when they say "you got owned".

no just kiddin

those days are over

Cranrab and Xfactor may talk a lot of shit about 24...but they always back up their shit

This year, Paul deserves which I had been saying all along.

I also was a person who believed KB got robbed but more than likely I'm wrong

Unfortunately, no matter who you are, the NBA is not very fond of giving MVP's to young players...so I feel pretty bad for CP3

oh, so it's like that, huh, SS?

another tobe hater gonna try to put some shit out there on the sly, huh?

don't think i didn't see that litte bullshit remark, son.

i'll have you know that tobe IS THE MVP of the playoffs, too.

2007 - 130 points on 130 shots. top that, bitch ass.

2006 - 158 points on 145 shots. OK, he slipped a little here, but he's still a GOAT.

:smh: why i always gotta be the 1 to check these fools?

i would've put 2005 up there too, but that was the year tobe wanted to add to the record books and lead the fakers into the pussific division cellar. they told him it couldn't be done, so he just up and showed them all how wrong they were.

damn, you tobe haters are like shoe flies on shit.

let me explain something to you. tobe is the hardest working player in the game. always was, always will be. how do i know that? because i saw him working out in a commercial once. that, plus he played 82 games this season.

how many games did that fat, lazy and out of shape guy lebron james play in? only 75.

82 games. bow down, bitches. tobe needed all 82 games to take the most shots (the MOST in the NBA), and he needed all 82 games to score 2,323 points (the MOST in the NBA).
