Amid the constant comparisons between Golden State and the 1995-96 Chicago Bulls, Warriors coach Steve Kerr provided a different response on Sunday.

Kerr - a member of that record-setting Bulls team - was asked about comments made by former team-mate and Hall of Famer Scottie Pippen, who claimed Michael Jordan and Co. would sweep defending NBA champions the Warriors in a seven-game series.

And as the Warriors (68-8) chase down the 72-win league record set by that Bulls team, Kerr jokingly responded to Pippen.

"It's a really hard question to answer, not just because you're comparing eras, but literally it's tough for me to answer it grammatically," Kerr told reporters when asked about the claim.

"Because I don't know who 'we' is and who 'they' are.

"I'll just say if the two teams played each other, there's no question we could be us and they could beat them."

Of the ongoing comparisons between the two eras, Kerr added: "The game is so different; it really is. I know I keep going back to that.

"Because the game is different and it's officiating differently, it's hard to compare the eras, to compare 20 years ago to now.

"For example, if you actually put the teams in a hypothetical game, my guess is the Bulls would be called for a million hand-check fouls and we would be called for a million illegal defences when we overloaded the strong side.

"So the game would take like six hours because the refs would be calling stuff all game. So it's kind of hard to get past that."

Or, since he has to go in the locker room with this team and convince these guys they are champions he can't exactly tear them down at the same time.

Who's writing Kerr's checks? I'm sure it's not Jerry Reinsdorf, right?

I think it ha more to do with Steve's personality more than anything else. If Jordan or Pippen was the Warriors coach they'd gladly tell the team that their Bulls team would beat the shit out of them :roflmao2:

Pretty much

I usually keep my mouth shut in these sports debates but isn't Kerr openly admitting what some of the older basketball heads have been saying all along? I'm just asking. I know how hard some of y'all cape for GS and I'm not trying to spend the rest of the day getting called all types of "old faggots" trying to play devil's advocate.

Common sense answer articulately explained by a person who played with the Bulls team, coaches the current GS team and understands how different the eras are and knows first hand how those differences impact that matchup. Plain and simple, if the Bulls played GS in THEIR era, they would be favored and possibly dominate, and vice versa. Any other mass blanket proclamations are either pride or stupidity talking... Kerr as usual, represents himself well. Thats why hes one of the besr coaches in the game!

A gracious non disrespectful non cartoonish answer. Kerr seems to have his ego in check maybe he should give Mike, Scottie, and Dennis a call.
Them old niggas barking louder and louder

I have a solution.. Get on NBA2K16 and have the 95 Bulls play the 16 Warriors

Let the cpu play each other on HOF setting and set back and watch

The worst team in the 2016 league can beat the best team from the 60's so why even compare diff eras??

The 2099 Mexican Chalupas can beat todays Warriors so wuts the point??

Well, to be fair. He did win rings with the Bull so he can't totally shit on them. However, I know he told those guys in the locker room, they would light the Bulls up any day.

That's a dumb ass answer....

What you fail to realize is with few exceptions most of the cats playing in 2016 don't know how to play the game. They are athletic but don't have any basketball IQ which is why you have physically dominate player like Lebron who can't take a smaller cat on to the box and has no midrange game.

Yeah you have cats with 45 inch verts getting rebounds but don't know how to box out.

And in 2099 Mexicans will still be playing 10 on 10 full court games cause they all 5'5.

So Bron can't post up little cats now? You saying Bron has zero post game?

You might want to walk that back

Dude you had low IQ players in the 90s (Shawn Kemp, JR Rider, etc) and the vast majority were offensively inept. That's why the league moved the 3 point line up to help scoring, made the no hand check rule in the 90's to help scoring, did all this stuff to help scoring because the players that were supposed to take the baton from the 80's guys failed miserably. That's why folks brag about the "physicality" to mask the fact offensively dudes sucked in the 90's. Today's players are waaaaaaay more versatile offensively and defensively. Cats like Detlef Schrempf, BJ Armstrong, Christian Laettner, and Vlade Divac were all stars in the 90's. :smh:

Bron sure was posting up the entire Warriors front court on the low block in the Finals last year.

Might not be zero but it is damn close.

Any guard the defends him is smaller and with a mid range game he would be unstoppable..

a mofokn 6'8" 270 lb gouad should never be shooting that many threes...

and his handles are pretty weak to boot.....

And dumbing down the game sure hasn't help the product of the court....

defense is sorry today....offense is where it is because defense isn't.....There are a few that play good defense ...

and you are crazy to think offense was that bad in the 90's...the difference is defense was better too..

Players may have been smarter back then but they also had far fewer decisions to make then the current players of today cant compare

1 why does this debate happen every year and ONLY in basketball? you rarely here oh the '72 dolphins went undefeated they could beat the '15 broncos

2 who keeps asking pippen anything

3 you can tell who actually watches basketball and who is just a casual fan, the dumb ass responses on here are mind numbing

I swear to fucking god old timers said that shit when I was coming up in the 80s and 90s. Since the players in the 80s and 90s were obviously better athletes then in previous generations, they didn't know the game -- at least that's what old timers had to tell themselves and others to feel better.

Now people are praising the 80s and 90s. Just like people in 2040 will be talking about the cats not knowing the game then like players in the 2010s. It's just hilarious. In general, the baseline for players is just getting higher with each generation. It's just a fact.

It sucks admitting that, which is why old timers always come across as bitter with the 'back in my day' shit.

As long as there is no set criteria or standard of what makes a player better then the arguements are weak. Im surprised old heads dont hate on floyd and say back in the 30 this guy whistle pete brass fists would have brat fllyod

Because NFL fans don't support the theory of de evolution when it comes to their sport. And if an old timer tried to pull that they'd quickly be told to shut the fuck up. NBA fans DO believe in de evolution. NBA fans believe there was a magical potion that ONLY existed in the 80's and 90's (not before or after) that made them smarter and physically better than any other players. NBA fans believe that everything that we are seeing today already existed or happened in the 80's or 90's. NBA fans believe LeBron James would have issues going up against the small forwards of the 90's like Glen Rice, Cedric Ceballos, Dennis Scott, Derrick McKey, Anthony Bonner, Jamal Mashburn, George Lynch, etc. That even though he's much bigger and quicker than those guys, their "toughness" and offensive ability would outmatch him.

Wilt chamberlin had to have had low iq seeing hkw few championships he won and how good he was. I mean just face it already. What players pre 90 were good at making there teamates better offensively other than magic bird

Old-Timers will always speak like that and it won't change. Everyone believes their era was better and that goes for any field of discussion.
