“Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban told NATO Secretary General in a phone call that the Hungarian government supports Sweden's membership in the alliance.

After Turkey's approval yesterday, all that remains is for the Hungarian parliament to approve Sweden's membership in NATO.”

Seem like Ed getting his payment for letting them countries into Nato

“Reuters: The White House urges Congress approval for $20 billion F-16 sale to Turkey”

“After the Turks approved Sweden's entry into NATO, the expected benefits from the Americans followed: Joe Biden sent a letter to Congress requesting approval for the sale of F-16 fighter jets and 80 modernization packages to Turkey, totaling $20 billion.

The Turks' feigned hesitation with Sweden could be seen as an attempt to negotiate the best conditions for themselves. Obtaining relatively new aircraft, necessary parts, and assemblies was what the Turks needed due to the obsolescence of their existing F-16C/D.

There is no final decision yet because we need to wait for Congress's approval. However, it is highly likely that there won't be any problems. It is still unclear which modification of the F-16 the Americans will sell and when this will happen, as there are many versions available.

We must also remember the significant backlog of aircraft orders. Many countries, such as Bahrain and Slovakia, have been waiting for fighter deliveries for years.”

“NATO is a walking "war machine" sowing chaos wherever it appears, according to Beijing.

China urges NATO to stop fabricating lies and halt dangerous actions causing turmoil in the Asia-Pacific region.

The Ministry of Defense of the People's Republic of China encourages NATO to objectively and rationally assess China and the development of the Chinese military. Additionally, they call for NATO to contribute more meaningfully to global peace.

The statement is in response to the major "Steadfast Defender-2024" alliance exercise and inappropriate remarks from the NATO Secretary-General regarding China”

⚡️ NATO is launching its largest exercise since the Cold War, rehearsing how U.S. troops could reinforce European allies in countries bordering Russia and on the alliance's eastern flank if a conflict were to flare up with a "near-peer" adversary.

Some 90,000 troops are due to join the Steadfast Defender 2024 drills that will run through May, the alliance's top commander Chris Cavoli said on Thursday.

More than 50 ships from aircraft carriers to destroyers will take part, as well as more than 80 fighter jets, helicopters and drones and at least 1,100 combat vehicles including 133 tanks and 533 infantry fighting vehicles, NATO said.
Cavoli said the drills would rehearse NATO's execution of its regional plans, the first defence plans the alliance has drawn up in decades, detailing how it would respond to a "Russian attack."

⚡️ Moscow on the largest NATO exercise: A provocation with the aim of worsening the situation and justifying the existence of the Alliance

The plans of the North Atlantic bloc to hold "Steadfast Defender 2024", the largest coalition exercise since the Cold War, are aimed at deliberately worsening the situation and increasing the risk of military incidents, which may ultimately lead to tragic consequences for Europe, warned the spokeswoman of the Russian Foreign Ministry Affairs.

The US State Department has approved the sale of F-16 fighter jets to Turkey, with a total value of $23 billion.

Today, the US State Department officially notified Congress about the potential sale of F-16s, which are estimated to be worth $23 billion.

Turkey has made a request for 40 new F-16 Block 70 fighters, as well as 79 F-16 Block 70 upgrade kits.

Additionally, the list includes 48 F110-GE-129D engines.

The Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA), which is affiliated with the Pentagon, has sent a formal notification letter to the relevant congressional committees. However, it is important to note that this notification does not guarantee that the transfer will actually take place.

From this point forward, the process will continue within Congress.

Saudi Arabia officially joins BRICS bloc - state TV

January 2, 20248:14 AM CSTUpdated a month ago
DUBAI, Jan 2 (Reuters) - Saudi state TV said on Tuesday that the kingdom had officially joined the BRICS bloc of countries.

Saudi Arabia's foreign minister had said in August the kingdom would study the details before the proposed Jan. 1 joining date and take "the appropriate decision".

Prince Faisal bin Farhan had said the BRICS group was "a beneficial and important channel" to strengthen economic cooperation.

The BRICs bloc previously included Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, but is set to double with Saudi Arabia joining the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Iran, and Ethiopia as new members.

Saudi Arabia's entry comes amid geopolitical tensions between the U.S. and China, and the expansion of China's influence within the kingdom.

Despite continued strong ties with the U.S., Saudi Arabia has increasingly pursued its own path out of concern that Washington is less committed to the Gulf's security than in the past.

China, Saudi Arabia's biggest oil customer, has led calls for the BRICs to expand to become a counterweight to the West.

The expansion could amplify the group's declared ambition to become a champion of the Global South, although Argentinasignalled in November it would not take up an invitation to join.

Iran Becomes A Member Of BRICS, With Hopes And Challenges

Tuesday, 01/02/2024

Foreign ministers of BRICS nations pose for a family photo with representatives from Africa and the global South during a summit in Cape Town, South Africa, June 2, 2023.
Iran officially became a member of the China-led BRICS economic organization on Monday, as it seeks to overcome the impact of US sanctions and overcome it isolation.

In its policy of finding shelter under Chinese and Russian-dominated international organizations, Iran achieved full membership in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in July 2022 and concurrently pursued entry into the BRICS group. Following an official invitation, Iran announced its acceptance into BRICS on August 24, 2023, with the official membership commencing on January 1, 2024.

Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman, Nasser Kanaani, announced the news on Monday as an important achievement for Tehran, emphasizing the potential for economic potential BRICS can offer. Ehsan Khandouzi, Iran's Finance and Economic Affairs Minister, expressed hope for global engagement and for increased trade opportunities with BRICS countries, despite US sanctions.

Iranian officials, who feel the need to calm domestic anxieties about the economic crisis gripping the country since 2018, routinely tell citizens that BRICS could challenge the dominance of the US dollar, and alleviate the financial crisis brought about by the US sanctions. Despite these assertions, domestic markets know that the Chinese themselves heavily rely on the US dollar for trade. Lack of confidence in the foreign and economic policies of the government has played a major role in the 12-fold devaluation of the Iranian rial against major currencies since 2018.

In Iran’s domestic political dynamics, BRICS is presented as a mechanism and an opportunity to challenge the United States and boost trade.

Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi (right) during a virtual meeting with heads of states of BRICS countries, November 21, 2023
Despite these perspectives, skepticism remains about the practical benefits of Iran's BRICS membership, especially concerning economic implications. Geopolitical tensions, such as Russia's invasion of Ukraine and China's strained relations with the United States, complicate BRICS' role as a counterweight to the West.

During the BRICS summit in August 2023, Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and Chinese President Xi Jinping emphasized bilateral cooperation and opposition to “American unilateralism.” While some individuals are optimistic, Tehran observers doubt practical benefits, emphasizing the need to address relations with the US and resolve the dispute about Iran’s nuclear program for meaningful membership impact. Former UN diplomat Kourosh Ahmadi has warned against illusions about potential benefits from SCO and BRICS, suggesting such beliefs could be more harmful than not being members at all.

Challenges

Not all BRICS members may be equally enthusiastic about Iran's inclusion, and not every existing member supported Iran's decision to join. Additionally, the impact of US secondary sanctions, restricting Iran's global business activities, may not be substantially alleviated by BRICS participation, especially given the organization's alignment with China and Russia, both with their own serious economic challenges and disputes with the West.

Nevertheless, Iran's energy sector is expected to experience significant changes with BRICS membership, particularly due to its major role in gas and oil production. Joining BRICS is seen as a strategic move to enhance energy trade and collaboration, especially with China and Russia. Anticipated benefits for Iran include increased energy exports, investment in energy infrastructure, and potential relief from US sanctions through the use of national currencies in energy trading.

While Iran aims to leverage BRICS membership to weaken sanctions, boost its economy, and access broader markets, experts caution that economic gains may be limited without a nuclear deal with the West. The uncertainties about the effectiveness and cohesion of BRICS policies also raise questions about the immediate and long-term benefits of Iran's membership.

Financial Action Task Force (FATF)

The Financial Action Task Force (FATF), a global monitor on money laundering, announced on Friday that it has made no modifications to its blacklist, which includes Iran, Myanmar, and North Korea. Iranian economist Mohammad Mehdi Behkish has emphasized potential difficulties in business transactions with BRICS countries if the FATF issue is not resolved. He has also underscored that, despite additional countries joining BRICS, the economic significance of the United States to China will surpass that of all BRICS nations, emphasizing the necessity of easing financial restrictions for Iran to fully benefit from BRICS membership.

It is claimed that Iran's membership in BRICS represents a strategic alliance with China and Russia, with opportunities for enhanced infrastructure investment and commerce. The goal to change the dynamics of the global energy market and lessen reliance on the US currency in energy-related transactions is supported by China and Russia. Higher energy exports and the possible use of national currencies as a hedge against US sanctions are anticipated benefits. However, Iran or any other country, needs revenues in hard currencies for most imports, and replacing the US dollar in energy exports does not seem to be a wise policy.

Moreover, considering the significant trade volumes they maintain with the United States, some BRICS members would be reluctant to take on economic risks in their dealings with Iran. This complicated situation highlights the numerous difficulties and factors that go along with Iran's involvement in BRICS, calling for a systematic and careful strategy to deal with these complications.

Britain is developing a secret plan for the entry of NATO military personnel into Ukraine

British strategists offer to transfer "large and highly maneuverable NATO forces" to Ukraine from the border regions of Romania and Poland to occupy defensive lines on the right bank of the Dnieper.

This is a direct call for NATO intervention in the conflict against Russia on the side of Ukraine.

Such plans are supposed to unfold in May 2024, which coincides with previously reported plans of another AFU offensive.

It is highly unlikely that this was leaked by accident. Washington probably instructed London to "leak" them to see Russia's reaction.

The proposal for Serbia to join BRICS has been submitted for consideration by the new parliament

As soon as the new parliamentary convocation was formed, today a proposal for a resolution on Serbia's accession to BRICS was submitted to parliament.

Members of the Socialist Movement, Djordje Komlenski and Boyan Torbica, today submitted a request to include this project in the parliamentary procedure.

Komlenski and Torbica submitted an identical proposal to parliament last August, but the convocation was dissolved in the meantime due to snap elections, so the project was not presented to deputies. Although they are part of the ruling coalition, this proposal was their personal initiative, which was not agreed upon with other government colleagues

NATO troops, under the guise of mercenaries, are participating in hostilities in Ukraine. They control air defense systems, operational-tactical missiles and MLRS, and are part of assault squads.

The head of the Main Operations Directorate of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces spoke about this in an interview with the Krasnaya Zvezda newspaper.

According to Colonel General Sergei Rudsky, NATO officers directly prepare military operations for the Ukrainian armed forces.

PS. The use of NATO regulars at the front has been written about since the spring of 2022.

Hungary opposes Mark Rutte’s bid to run NATO

Hungary is against Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte's taking the helm of NATO when the post is vacated later this year, the country's Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó said Tuesday.

The pushback from Budapest adds to the uncertainty around a succession plan for the top job at the military alliance. A third of its 31 member countries remain undecided about backing Rutte, who has the support of the U.S. to succeed outgoing Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, as first reported by POLITICO.

Rutte is a long-time critic of the current government in Budapest.

"We certainly can’t support the election of a person to the position of NATO’s secretary general, who previously wanted to force Hungary on its knees,” Szijjártó said. In 2021, Rutte denounced new anti-LGBT legislation introduced by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, saying the country "has no business being in the European Union anymore."

"The long-term aim is to bring Hungary to its knees on this issue," he said at the time.

A group of eastern flank countries close to the Russian border also remain unconvinced about Rutte's bid — but for different reasons.

The Baltic countries are unhappy about Rutte's lack of commitment on Dutch defense spending, while Romanian President Klaus Iohannis is displeased with the Netherlands' long-standing resistance to his country's joining the Schengen zone. Last month, Iohannis told allies he had decided to challenge Rutte.

NATO ‘increasingly aggressive’ – Moscow

The US-led bloc is openly rehearsing for a conflict with Moscow, Secretary of the Russian Security Council Nikolay Patrushev has warned- RT

NATO’s ongoing ‘Steadfast Defender 2024’ war games are heightening tensions globally by simulating a military confrontation with Moscow, the secretary of the Russian Security Council has said. Nikolay Patrushev also cited the alliance’s growing military spending as an indication of its “increasingly aggressive nature.”

The exercises, hailed as the largest NATO has held in decades, kicked off in late January and will end in May. According to Supreme Allied Commander for Europe Christopher Cavoli, the drills feature some 90,000 troops from all 32 member states. In addition, 1,100 combat vehicles, including 133 tanks and 533 infantry fighting vehicles, as well as over 50 naval vessels and 80 helicopters, drones and fighter jets are taking part, it is believed.

Speaking on Thursday, Patrushev stated that the ‘Steadfast Defender 2024’ war games, “during which a scenario of an armed confrontation with Russia is being rehearsed, are undoubtedly increasing tensions and destabilizing the situation in the world.”

He claimed that the “destructive role of the US in modern history is obvious,” and noted that no other country has “unleashed so many wars and military conflicts.”

Patrushev characterized NATO as an “important tool” employed by Washington to exert pressure and influence on other nations. The official pointed out that the Brussels-based military bloc has come directly to Russia’s Western border, and is preparing for future conflicts.

He also cautioned that NATO is planning to expand its presence in the Asia-Pacific region, as well as in the Arctic.

Late last month, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov also cited the military drills as a threat and NATO as an “instrument of confrontation” used by the US.

Speaking in the run-up to the drills in January, General Cavoli said that the exercises would simulate an “emerging conflict scenario against a near-peer adversary,” covering thousands of kilometers all across Europe.

Earlier this year, multiple senior officials from NATO member states, including the UK, Germany, and Estonia, alleged that Russia was planning an attack on the bloc within the next few years.

Moscow has consistently denied those claims, with President Vladimir Putin insisting that Russia “has no interest … geopolitically, economically or militarily ... in waging war against NATO
