The local news is waiting outside the courtroom as I type. Click on the link to get live news coverage. This is why I went down there. This is only the beginning. He is not totally exonerated, but at least he can walk the streets, lay in his own bed again. 5 more to go!!!

Damn They Need To Just Free The Teen And Stop Wasting Peoples Time.

good shit... but they already destroyed his life...

I feel you...I am hoping brothers inside did not fukk with him out of respect for his unique circumstances for being there...that's why I hate the law...for them it's a satisfying victory just getting you tied up in the system even if it's temporary...

he needs 24 hr protection. i wouldnt put it past those crackers to try and lynch his ass..

Yeah, for a 16 year old to sit in jail for a year on some bogus charges is an injustice in itself. He has literally been robbed of his childhood, or at least a significant part of it. The New Black Panther Party are offering there services of protection to all the involved families. He definitely doesn't need to stay in that town. I hope he didn't get messed with in jail either. Sad story all the way around.

We don't just need the civil rights movement of the 21st century, we need to revolutionize.

BATON ROUGE, Louisiana (CNN) -- The case of Mychal Bell, a black teenager accused of beating a white classmate in Jena, Louisiana, will be heard in juvenile court, Louisiana's governor announced Wednesday.

Gov. Kathleen Blanco said that she discussed Bell's case with LaSalle Parish District Attorney Reed Walters on Wednesday, and that Walters agreed not to challenge a state appeals court ruling that dismissed Bell's battery and conspiracy convictions.

The court ruled that Bell, who was 16 at the time of the beating, should have been tried in juvenile court instead of having the case transferred to adult court.

Blanco made the announcement with civil rights leaders Martin Luther King III and Al Sharpton.

Last week, they led about 15,000 marchers to Jena, a town of 3,000, to protest how authorities handled the cases of Bell and five other black teens accused of beating white high school student Justin Barker.

Many said they are angry the students, dubbed the "Jena 6," are being treated more harshly than three white students who hung nooses from an oak tree on high school property.

The white students were suspended from school but did not face criminal charges. The protesters say they should have been charged with a hate crime.

Prosecutors originally charged all six black students with second-degree attempted murder and conspiracy

The black students now face charges of aggravated second-degree battery and conspiracy in the schoolyard beating.

The altercation was the culmination of racially tense events in the town, including two fights sparked by the hanging of the nooses. E-mail to a friend E-mail to a friend

............. but on a bright side, I was listening to the radio about month ago and they had his father on the phone. His father said that UCLA had contacted him and said that if his son is set free, that they were steal willing to grant Micheal a full ride on a football scholarship so thats the positive side of thangs if he does get to walk.

Wow...Black People still gotta deal with this kinda shit. :smh:

We will until we start loving ourselves instead of loving everyone else.BLACK PEOPLE NEED TO PULL BACK INTO THERE OWN COMMUNITIES AND BUILD POWER FROM THERE FIRST.BLACKS ARE SPREAD TOO FAR APART MENTALLY TO MAKE IT HAPPEN.

come on black people lets talk truth...he ain't no angel nor is this a first offense for him...

I don't know if he should go without ANY kind of punishment..this wasn't the first time he's been in trouble with the law...but he definetly should not have been excessively charged either..

good shit... but they already destroyed his life...

Maybe he if hadn't been beating people's asses (or running up a previous criminal record) his life wouldn't be "ruined" (which it obviously isn't).

Dude's assault had nothing to do with "racial justice" for the nooses. Making him a civil rights "martyr" when true ACHIEVERS are ignored is pathetic. Making a "celebrity" or hero of another black criminal is just WRONGheaded (and will only bite everyone in the ass when he gets busted again).

Are you serious? He's been in jail with "grown" men for ten months and they were going to give him between 15-20 years in jail. I think he's done enough time. I've seen people jumped and knocked out before and no one got 15 to 20 years.:angry:

That sounds like something to look forward to. Hope he gets off.

What about the other students involved who lost there scholarships behind this, anyone know there status?

where did i say he should be in jail with grown men???

i said he's no angel so exoneration is just a little much to demand considering his record but hard time in a supermax is ridiculous too

Just saw this on CNN where he was with Al Sharpton talking about all he (Mychal) wanted to do was pray and have some ribs... and I was reminded of that House of Payne thread from earlier.

Anyway, I'm glad the march was worth something. It's about time.

Now he can be tried in juvenile court, be sentenced for assault (because that's exactly what it was), but be given credit for time served and released. Then he goes on that scholarship to UCLA

<begin cynicism>
Then gets drafted by the NFL, forget the shit he went through and gets in trouble again a la Lawrence Philips and Marcus Vick and has his short career ended like the other Vick
<end cynicism>

the scary part is...theres a chance that actually might happen

I think that 10 months in adult jail is more than enough punishment for what he did. I don't condone violence. I did not rally in Jena because I thought he was innocent. I went because of all the injustices that were made to not only Mychal, but the black community in Jena. Truth be told, none of us or angels. Many of us on this board has had a fight in school at one point or another. If he was a relative, I think some of us would have a different view of the situation. Oh well, to each their own, but I will forever stand for justice.

you shouldn't have to be an angel to be treated fairly by the justice system.

who the fuck is an "angel" any way?

everyone has some dirt on them, it doesn't give us an excuse to over prosecute anyone...and he's not being exonerated. his conviction was overturned, but he stayed in jail WITHOUT any charges filed against him.

that's unconstitutional.

they JUST charged him as a juvie, set his bail, and now he's getting out, which is what should've been done long ago.

But you did say, "I don't know if he should go without ANY kind of punishment." Ten months in jail with grown men is punishment enough and even ten months in a detention center is enough time. And he's still facing more time b/c that DA is a racist just like the town.

ummm someone with NO criminal record at all..

i just find it hard to 100% back someone whose already had a couple of run ins with the law...kinda like rodney king...asswhooped by the cops..riots behind it..get in trouble AGAIN with the police..

I just hope mychel bells understands that ge OWES a huge debt to a lot of people and keeps his nose clean from now on..

some people will never get it. it wasn't about Rodney King (the man), Mychal Bell (the young man), Rosa Parks (the woman).

I guarantee you that some of the people that got killed in the WTC attacks in 2001 and some of those killed in New Orleans after Katrina in 2005 had priors, but does that mean that they don't deserve justice. Some of us can act so high and mighty. Just because we don't have a criminal record, doesn't mean that we have never participated voluntarily or involuntarily to criminal activity. And who's to say that he was guilty of what he was charged of before anyways? It's not like Jena's criminal justice dept. has a good track record for getting things right.

I agree but people live on their high horses in this country. He who hasn't sinned cast the first stone.
