So I arrived to Chicago on Monday for the holiday. This morning, I get a call that one of my good elementary school friends was killed last night in yet ANOTHER fucking senseless shooting in Chicago. Damn, this shit is getting old.
So on the eve of Thanksgiving, although I have much to be thankful for, I have a heavy heart, ya'll. My prayer is that each of you has a safe and happy holiday.

November 21, 2007
FROM STNG WIRE REPORTS
A 32-year-old man driving a van or sport-utility vehicle who was fatally shot after picking up his girlfriend from work has been identified. The girlfriend, who was not shot, was treated and released from an area hospital after the vehicle crashed and flipped.
The man, who may have worked at the same beauty salon as his girlfriend, was shot after picking up the girl about 11:10 p.m. during an attempted robbery at in the 7700 block of S. Ashland Ave., according to Gresham District police Lt. John Brundage.
Beauford Nelson, whose address was not immediately available, was pronounced dead at 1:20 a.m. Wednesday on the scene in the 1500 block of W. 78th St., after a rollover traffic accident and suffering a gunshot wound, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.
The woman was in the front passenger seat when the man was shot and she was not injured, Brundage said.
"As she got in the car, an offender approached the car on foot, produced a handgun and said, 'give me all your money,'" Brundage said.
The boyfriend responded, "'You ain't [car] jacking me,'" Brundage said.
As the man pulled away, the gunman fired one shot and struck the man in the chest. The man continued driving until he lost control of the 2005 Chevrolet van or sport-utility vehicle and crashed at 1557 W. 78th Street, according to Brundage.
"He jumped the curb, flew over a 6-foot, chain-link fence and flipped, coming to rest against a parked car," Brundage said.
The van also "plowed into" and knocked over an unknown type of metal box, which looked like a traffic control box surrounded by four metal pipes, according to Brundage, who said the crash caused to electrical outages or gas leaks.
The girlfriend was not seriously injured and was treated and released from Holy Cross Hospital, Brundage said.
Officers who were two blocks away witnessed the crash, but did not know the man had been shot.
The gunman -- described only as a 5-foot-9 black man, fled on foot without any proceeds and remained at large at 2:30 a.m., Brundage said.
