Is Jazzy Jeff right? Is Fresh Prince of Bel-Air the biggest hip hop record in the world? Everyone and I mean everyone knows the lyrics. You could walk to the mall and start it off and people would start singing it with you
How many other rap songs can any and everyone Sing the lyrics because they know them all?
Can't say biggest ever but
Bombs Over Baghdad and
Hey Ya! Were immensely popular and well known worldwide.
Also In the Club (50 cent)
To me there is no biggest HIP HOP album. RUN DMC! Ultra Magnetic MC's, WUTANG CLAN catalogue, Notorious BIG catalogue, Jay Z catalogue, Death Row catalogue, 2 Live Crew Me So Horny album, Nas catalogue, Mobb Deep catalogue, Tribe Called Quest catalogue. It's been an adventure of epic proportions.
Everyone knows Fresh Prince of Bel-Air all around the world word for word by all generations. Can't say biggest ever but
Bombs Over Baghdad and
Hey Ya! Were immensely popular and well known worldwide.
Also In the Club (50 cent)
Some folks in here talking lyrics, I'm talking about the music/beats...not whether someone can recite the lyrics.
If we talking lyrics there's 80 year old jewish grandmas who can recite certain tap songs verbatim.
"With so much drama in the LBC it's kinda hard being snoop D O double G but I...
Somehow someway keep coming up with funky ass shit like every single day..."
I believe actually as of this moment?
It is
It's the generational thing
My kids KNOW what You can't touch this and Rappers Delight are and many of the words.
But those songs?
Ain't THAT song.
It's like the damn pledge of allegiance.
My grandma, my mom, my kids and they kids know it word for word.
Forget even just hip hop
Not many pop songs PERIOD cross that many generations.
You offer a good argument. A friend of mine once told me that a talk show host once said: "Do you know when you are popular? When my mother knows who you are."
Ideally, in entertainment, you are trying to market a product that transcends gender, age, race, etc.
I'll use "Tiger Woods" or the "Williams sisters" as an example. When they were playing at a highly competitive level, people that normally would not watch golf or tennis would tune in. If "Tiger Woods" didn't make the cut or "Venus or Serena" lose in an early round ratings would drop.
Now, if you have a song that catches the attention of grandma as well as preschool children that's quite a feat.
Depends on your age.
He has a point that the Fresh Prince theme song is up there. That’s cause of the show.
Off the top of my head:
Hypnotize
Juicy
Nuthin But a G Thang
Gin and Juice
Crossroads
Back That Azz Up
Paid In Full
Hot In Herre
In Da Club
God’s Plan
