Music Debate: Steve stoute on the joe budden podcast says the older generation didn’t care about lyrics in HipHop

This is bullshit

No wonder Puff cracked him in the head

The difference is white people were buying Young MC, we were buying Ilmatic

We're 12% of the population
Puff cracked him in the head because Puff likes going upside bitches head. If Steve had hair, it would've been pulled too.

As for the point: lyrics never sold. Do you know what is the soup of the day at most of the Jamaican restaurants in Philadelphia? Cow tongue. We have been conditioned to consume garbage as a people. It is why Tyler Perry is a God and Tubi is king. Smart people say we should demand more; that's smart-people dumb shit.

Men want to dance too. The fallacy that the genre demands excellence should stop. White people don't want smart negroes. They want one smart negro. The rest of y'all should get back to work.

Dude sounds like a fucking clown.
Sounds like he's trying to make himself feel better about liking and pushing mumble/trap

He forgets, if lyrics didn't matter why do people know those classics bar for bar and why do rap fans have top 5's ?

Stoute has fallen into the sales vs skills hole. Kinda cat you don't allow to pair with your Bluetooth.

Illmatic never sold becus it was still considered an underground album.. No radio friendly singles or videos. But us real hiphop fans recognized it for the dopeness it was.

Wasnt til his popularity increased, and ppl started checking for his older shit

Illmatic had 5 singles — that’s half the damn album. You can’t sell a book in a club and you can’t play noises in a library. The two are antithetical to each other. How are you supposed to retain knowledge while you’re tipsy off the Yak? Record sales are only stimuli to complete the conditioning. The less words and the more animalistic sounds, the higher the charts. They’re paying negroes to act like “negroes” and we are cashing the check every single time.

When they say that the average American reads at a 5th grade level, what do they mean? Who are they talking about?
