I've always heard that you had to have some kind of talent to pull off using vocal processors/vocoders/talk boxes i.e Roger Troutman. Dope drop.

Without auto tune you can now really hear what he is saying, and one thing I never realized is that sure sure sings about alcohol a lot, doesn't he... Almost makes him seem like he has a problem.
Ironic since he comes from a Muslim background!
T-Pain has always had genuine talent, though. If you notice, his auto-tuned songs, like R. Kelly's, were better than other people using it because they actually know how to write and arrange songs. But he was suspect for a while after this performance:

yeah man pain's arrangements have always been ill. and you can tell when he did some shit top to bottom because it comes out the same in his instrumentation and in his vocal arrangements. very lush and even complex at times.
even at his level of success, i feel that he's real underrated.
New found respect for T Pain as an artist... OP good looking for putting me on to Tiny Desk Concerts... so many damn artists from every corner of the earth... there's something for everyone on there...

I dig his music for some get dumb have fun shit. He is talented with or without the auto tune, and I appreciate that he seems to actually enjoy his music. the lyrics are so ridiculous though, smoothed out alcoholic crunk music vs motown or 70's funk damn music has regressed. this can't even hold up to jodeci
