[Verse 1]
When I get bent I must represent, no question
Get up a dime spot and then I'm off to the dread section
Roots hit me off lovely
Coming out the spot I had to duck because a nigga tried to buck me
I'm easing on the Glock like, "What up, hop"
Buck's pulling out on cops cause I want free Glocks
What the fuck, bring your bitch-ass type brigade
Hitting them all, hand guns and hand grenades
Unreasonable the man that's wanted for murder
Got your block locked down, so don't come any further
In my clip is a .22 dum-dum
Oh yeah, I seen your moms, I hit her off with a jum
You know what I'm saying? Fret it or forget it
I'm like the short and fly so I'mma still get paid, I don't sweat it
I'm every MC's nightmare manifesting
A little shorty pushing the fact that I'm best in
This shit called hip-hop, raise the throne
Kid, don't front, I got you open in your dome

[Hook]
Don't front, you know I got you open, kid (Repeat x8)

[Verse 2]
Rest in peace to my niggas in the East
And all the real niggas that was shot by beast
Around the way all we do is spark mad ism
Ladies be like, "Yo, he's Buckshot right there, that is him"
But let's get with the cipher, kid, pass the eight
So I can wet my lungs and blow smoke in your face
Word to Jah, niggas can't touch me, kid
Cause I'm too nice to do bids or ever hit skid
Fronts in the bottom of my teeth like whatever shit
On the real, gettin played, what, I never did
Cause on the mic I gotta represent the real niggas
The field niggas get the muthafuckin ill triggers
Word to Herb, lick shot with my verb
And keep my hand on my grip when I play the curb
I never got caught by a undercover DT
Nah chill E T&T can't see me
You grab mics from the ones I left broken
Kid, don't front, you know I got you open

[Hook]

[Verse 3]
Late at night I catch a buzz, then I write
The type of ill shit to make the mind feel tight
And be wanting to battle like every five minutes
But I'm in this like Guinness so that ass get finished
Straight from the floors of hell, feel the flame
You faggot ass, I heard your nickname's Blaine
I hit your brain and you felt the pain, maintain
When it comes to a battle you know the Buck reigns
I overthrow the flow, niggas be like, "Yo, how'd you do that?"
Bitches be like "Yo who that, you're all that, yo, true that"
Never forget that I'm the one you thought wouldn't make it
I used to make money, now I just take it
I do what I gotta do to bring you to the concrete
Bucking niggas down cause they think shit is sweet
I keep a Tec whenever I'm in the projects
Ease out, then flex, in effect like Wreckx
Buck to your head, now die is my slogan
Don't front, you know I got you open

[Hook]

This was the beginning of Buckshot dropping the Shorty from his name and having a more "sing-songy" flow

Yeah, original crooks, original heads. We doin' it like this

Word up!

I woke up in the morning, hopped on a train I saw my man
He had an L in his hand, hide it from the beast
At least I catch a bus before I hit my block
I take a mega hit frontin' on the good ship lollipop
Move the hop so I can put the hip in the grip
Everybody slip so I can take a trip to the dip
Dig a deeper hole microphone control with soul
Look at my hot eye's tell me how could you be cold
I'm coming to you from the underground, with a thunder sound
#1 question, "Yo how can I be down?"
But I tell you bring your lighter and roll your finger
Back up on the lighter so you can see the fire finger
Go from left to right then front to back
Herbal verbal lead is givin' the mic contact
React whenever I keep your head scopin'
Ahh don't front you know I got cha opin

Don't front, you know I got cha opin
It's the original heads, me, and the original crooks
(Duck Down!)

Don't front, you know I got cha opin
Check my dialect from my diaphram my man
(Duck Down!)

Don't front, you know I got cha opin
It's the original heads, me, and the original crooks
(Duck Down!)

Don't front, you know I got cha opin
Check the dialect from my diaphram my man

Me and my crew walk the streets at night
Like lookin' for the right one, baby
If it's payday I'm at your doorstep
I never sweat swingin' the epp nowadays 'cuz my rep
Is known for the tricks that is straight like toys
In the cypher with my boys, we be gettin' busy
Wreckin' shop. I drop the top make the seeds pop
From the live that I sparked last night in the dark
I be dedicated to the moon 'cuz it's Black
Resurrect, come back, tell me about the other side jack
Now we goin' back to "Who's Got The Props?" when I blew up the spot
Last year on The Box
Pressure to come back with another fat single
Not too underground to make you stop when you mingle
But bust it, pay attention to the third verse
And I'mma take you to another level first, Yeah

Don't front, you know I got cha opin
It's the original heads, me, and the original crooks
(Duck Down!)

Don't front, you know I got cha opin
Now you're sweatin' Evil Dee number 1 DJ!

First of all listen, I'm the N you know that
When you see me at a show you better prepare for the flow
Right away. I'm dimmin' the brighter day
It's never sunny, still don't nothin' move but the honey out the page
So I enta the brotha zone. I come to the front of the stage
And let you know who's on the phone. Leave it alone
See it's a hip hop thang. Not a fake drip drop fame or corny ass lame
You can fool the rest but you can't fool me
See the best school me for the simple fact
It's the g-o-d, buck to the shot
Still took the techs and Buck took the rocks
So forget the past, no more Shorty
Strictly Buckshot, I rock you 1 down to 40 Below
I gots to let her know that I am the day that never tire everytime
I felt the fire
People try this when your jam got cold
Used to be the man now your band got old
I know the plan, so I keep you scopin'
Don't front you know I got cha opin

Yeah, without no doubt. This is dedicated to my man
Big 5, Big Trev. Real's in the place to be
We're coming to get you out, kid
And we out...no doubt...

I prefer the video version/remix.

If they had released the album version, they would have just blended into the background as "just another NY rap group".

Man, I hate when the video version would be different from the album version and that used to be a big thing in the 90s.

^^^^

This is so TRUE...this was one B-sides, remixes and cas-singles and later CD singles were real money makers.

That was the hustle and I fell for it a lot. I would get the album for the single and even if the album was great, if my song wasn't on there as I liked it, I had to go buy the single to get the remix.

I disagree...this was such a a great pure street corner hip hop performance I think if more people heard this as a single it would have further solidified his position as the next great MC.

But the crossover appeal of this single is undeniable. But I think the popularity/success of it influenced his choices later and caused the change in his already perfect flow.

But a variation of this tactic is the SPECIFIC reason that the Fugees 'The Score' broke sales records...the single Fugee La was like the ONLY one released before the album dropped so you HAD to buy the entire album...for "Killing Me Softly," "Ready or Not", etc....which were released MONTHS later.

peace

Pressed preview & the thread was dead:lol:

Fucked me up for a second

Some of the last 2 solo joints with that breakdown lil knowledge flow

:gun04:

the proper context

then the classic that summer

Enta da Stage was a hard ass album. That stayed in heavy rotation in 93. Lot of classic albums at that time, nas, mob deep.

I'm coming from a perspective of a Southern in the 90s. To many of us, one NY group sounded just like another one. I know to NYers, ya'll can tell the difference but, generally, we can't/couldn't. So the crossover appeal wasn't for pop radio but really outside NY radio.
For me, this was the second song I had heard from them and it was so different that it stood out and made me more interested in them and the entire Boot Camp Click.

The album original has its place in my personal greatest hits. but that remix, OOOOOWEEEE!!! I remember when I first heard it. One of my boys had a tape on the bus and we were passing it around listening to it. Then years later I copped the Black Moon Diggin in the Vaults CD.:dance:

nice...brought back a lot of memories...

was playing this cas-single in my waterproof sony cassette player with auto-reverse

Yeah...

...the remix was one of my top 5 favorite songs from the 90s.:yes::yes:

I don't know what it was, but the dudes from my town in South Carolina were HARDCORE NY/East Coast fans. I'm sure it had something to do with the fact that a lot of people had relatives in NY, and we were very influenced by NYC fashion. I would hear some people talk about ScarFace, but that's it.

Well, there was Luke, but ... yeah.

Saw them do the first performance of this live in Charleston SC. Talked to Buck, Dee, and Tech (Steel was locked up) and even stay in the Hotel with them listening to beats with Dee and my crew. Was a cool vibe, and them beats was incredible. I knew this was a monster and is STILL my favorite Black Moon song along with the Buck Em Down remix (made a hit on NY Undercover).
