All depends on what you can afford and if you need it to be portable. I have the original MPC Live but I've never needed it "on the go". Thinking back, I should have put a little more funds in and gotten the X.

it’s difficult to decide because the live has a battery, speakers & it’s lighter
(portability as you stated above)

but the x has more i/o ports, a bigger tilt screen & more workspace
the cost difference isn’t a factor, but it boils down to the convenience of the live vs the fully loaded x
