Moving to Orlando, Help me out if you know the area.

Orlando is mega-generic. I hope you're forced to move there, and it's not a choice.

Here you go. If you are going to work a 9-5 you will need to live close to your place of employment. Traffic is crazy in most areas. Stay away from where the niggas live, as the niggas here are on a whole different level of niggadom (Spics as well).

In more detail , do not live in the city. Move to Altamonte Springs or Winter Park. Its about a 15 minute commute with or without traffic in or out the city. Stay away from the nigga section. Sorry to say it. Our own people love to capitalize on new comers. I moved from Queens to the O in '06, same reasons as you. Ive learned to adapt. Good luck

Agreed! I lived there for 12 years during and after college. Lived around UCF, Winter Park, Downtown, and Altamonte Springs. That place is a tourist nightmare. The salaries are low compared to other cities. The nightlife is terrible unless you are a white guy in his 20s. I know a few people who still live there and they said it has not changed since I left years ago.

On a positive note there are some decent areas to live in and chill mostly in Seminole and Osceola counties. If that is what you are looking to do. It is also a good place to raise a family as long as you are in the right neighborhood.

Traffic is bad there because it was under developed and poorly planned for population growth.

Also suggest that you get Sirius Satellite Radio because the radio stations in Central Florida are really wack.

C/S This advice..Altamonte is my area..You're close to I4, when you have visitors, it's easy to entertain because there's something to do for all ages. If you like live concerts (Mainly smooth Jazz for this area) You will fit right in..I say go for it.

I'm starting to think according to BGOL members that every city outside of Atlanta suck when it comes to black people.

Went on vacation from Maryland. I wish I could live down there
you can never grasp the true feel for a city if you only visited tourist areas & stayed in a hotel,, vacationing in a city, & living there are usually two different things,, especially when forming opinions about a city based on the Magic Kingdom & the Electric Parade

watch out for sink holes and mud slides and stay away from some parts of OBT at night

This is true. I know I put a lot of discouraging remarks in my comments. Meant it as a warning sign because a lot of people will vacation in Orlando for a week or two and get the wrong impression of the city. There will be a culture shock if you are used to other large metro areas. Orlando really has very little urban identity unless it has changed in the few years which I doubt. There are some small gems for going out, but you really have to look for them. Like Rhythm said about the live concerts. Orlando just doesn’t have the same variety as you would find in other major cities. One good thing is rent and housing prices are going down in Central Florida so it is more affordable.

Orlando is really wack compared to Miami/ Ft Lauderdale but it's a better place to raise a family. If you're not too much into the nightlife Orlando is actually pretty good, low wages though, not many jobs and it's overpopulated...

I know a couple cats that moved there.

On the other hand women are usually more talkative and friendlier becuase overall they get approached way less.

The millennia area is real nice. The mall is dope and its right off the I-4. Orlando as a whole is cool, nice clean place to live and since you already got a job you don't have to sweat the weak job market. Night life ain't what it is in other places but you can't compare 95% of America to cities like Miami and Atlanta when it comes to that. Also check out the metro west area, very dope upscale neighborhood.

Most of y'all who are posting no very little about Orlando. There is plenty of black culture here and the night life scene is great. I have lived here for over 5 years with very little to complain about. And OP affordable housing in a pretty good neighborhood is in Metrowest. I suggest you try Craigslist for townhome and condo rentals.

Im from orlando and my mom is still there!!

Stay away from SANFord,fl where trayvon got shot...

I would stay around the millenia area,Baldwin park, maitland area if i was looking to be close to everything. Thornton park downtown is really nice.

Millenia Mall area is my favorite area lots of apartments, close to attractions, food, shopping and metrowest. There are some new apartments behind millenia mall that are nice well my boy just moved there loves it.

If any of those areas are close to your job stay there. Low paying jobs are a big problem in orlando. If you got a good job keep it.

There is black culture there and nightlife just gotta be in the right circles Like the urban league young professionals group:https://www.facebook.com/CFULYoungProfessionals

for nightlife: Check this site out:http://talkoforlando.com/

There was a spot out over in metrowest that was cool there there a night life spot over there called TAVERN ON THE LAKE!! get a apartment right behind there and just chill bro.

Orlando a nice city kinda of small and quiet. But you can have fun if you know the right people. check out UCF frats as well!!

OP check it for yourself like any other city Otown does have its up and downs.
1. Make sure you have a car because transportation system is not good.
2. Altamonte springs, Winter Park and East Orlando is where I would target.
3. If you are from the Caribbean/West indian west side is ok. Avoid Pine Hills (Crime Hills)
4. If you have a degree Try applying at Lockheed Martin or Northrop grumman website.
5. Housing is fucking cheap. Families move down from NY buy these big ass houses cash

Born and raised in the O.

1. Get an E-Pass for the tolled roads. The tolled roads and I-4 is the only way to conviently drive around the city. Stay of 50 and OBT.

2. Live in Maitland, Windermere, Ocoee, Dr.Phillips, or Winter Park area. Do not live downtown or Pine Hill area.

3. Get year round passes to Disney, Universal, Seaworld. Attend any Cirque de Solei performance

PM me if you have more questions

I'm In Crime Hills All Good over here just can't be Pussy. The Media loves us

Come to Metro-Orlando. Rent a car and get a hotel on International drive. Stay the weekend and visit the apartment communities in your price range in the day and at night.

Orlando is small but it is surrounded by a dozen other cities. You won't even recognize when you are not in Orlando. Metro Orlando is actually a 3 county area including Osceola, Orange and Seminole Counties.

Most areas are integrated even Pine Hills. Traffic is not as bad as New York,DC, Miami or Chicago. Housing is better than most places because most of the places are newer.

Orlando is White, Puerto Rican, Black, Caribbean, poor whites and Mexicans. Orlando is truly multi-cultural.

Most folks ain't from here so you won't get that community feeling like growing up in the old neighborhood. You probably won't recognize the projects. You will meet every NYer, Ohioan, Chicagoanan and whoever else that let up north for a calmer life down in the City Beautiful.

It's hot and humid from April to November. It will rain a piece everyday during the summer.

Orlando is a great as you let it be. It is centrally located to everything in florida with cheap flights to NY, ATL, Texas, where ever.

sunpass bypass all traffic..... metrowest good area...better spots right outside O-town, Celebration,FL.. Clermont,FL.... places to avoid Pine Hills... I Currently live @resort in Four Corners $1100 3bd/3ba...alotta resorts r leasing check'em out(resort living is awesome)...safest area is anything around disney..get on hotpads and zillow a lot of information such as house median..schools,walk score...

What he said. If traffic isn't that big a concern or you don't mind leaving extra early to be good no matter how much traffic you see then I'd suggest going to Clermont. Plus that's the only area in Central Florida I'm aware of that has hills so you would be less prone to flooding.

Live close to Job man Tolls and Gas too much to live an more than hour away from the job man.

Either live downtown, winter park, baldwin park, or the millenia/metrowest areas.

Suprised you got a well paying job in Orlando aint many of those down there.:smh::smh:
