Disney had a big 2018 — and its 2019 could be even bigger.

In a year that included Black Panther, Avengers: Infinity War, and Incredibles 2, the studio set a new domestic box office record, raking in $3.092 billion in 2018. Globally, it earned $7.325 billion, the second-biggest global total ever and just behind 2016’s record-setting Disney haul of $7.605 billion.

So far, Disney is still the only studio to ever cross $7 billion in a single year, and in 2018, it was bolstered by Marvel blockbusters like Infinity War ($2.049 billion globally) and Black Panther ($1.347 billion). (Those totals put Infinity War and Black Panther in the top 10 highest-grossing films of all time, unadjusted for inflation.)

The Pixar sequel Incredibles 2 ($1.24 billion worldwide) and Ant-Man and the Wasp ($623.1 million) added to Disney’s total, along with other big releases like Ralph Breaks the Internet and Mary Poppins Returns. Not every Disney film this year was a hit — A Wrinkle in Time only earned $132.9 million globally, while Solo: A Star Wars Story earned a franchise-worst total of $393.6 million — but in all, the studio had a banner year.

Looking ahead to 2019, Disney’s got another two Marvel films in the pipeline, the Brie Larson-starring Captain Marvel (March 8) and the top-secret Avengers: Endgame (April 26). Also in the works are live-action adaptations of Dumbo (March 29), Aladdin (May 24), The Lion King (July 19), and Artemis Fowl (Aug. 9), with Toy Story 4 (June 21) and Frozen 2 (Nov. 22) in the works on the animated side. Oh, and the studio also has a little film slated for December called Star Wars: Episode IX.

And with Disney’s acquisition of rival studio Fox expected to close early in 2019, the studio is on track to control an even bigger slice of the box office going forward — meaning the House of Mouse is just going to keep growing.

The Mouse has it's own distribution network. No other studio does. Plus they have foreign properties to divest the money that foreign laws make them leave in the country.

What does this mean?

But Disney stock.

Disney reached an auspicious milestone this week and became the first movie studio to ever have five movies released in one year to each make over $1 billion at the worldwide box office.

With “Toy Story 4” being the latest movie to cross the billion dollar mark, Disney has accumulated nearly $8 billion at the box office.

Here is a list of all of the Disney movies that have made over a billion dollar so far this year.

    1. “Avengers: Endgame” $2,795,695,939
    2. “The Lion King” $1,435,207,985
    3. “Captain Marvel” $1,128,274,794
    4. “Aladdin” $1,035,745,430
    5. “Toy Story 4” $1,016,639,307
And, Disney is not done yet. “Frozen 2” opens on November 22nd and “Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker” opens on December 20th, and those movies are also expected to join the billion dollar club.

This weekend at the box office, “The Lion King” still had a strong presence by coming in 3rd place at the box office. “The Lion King” brought in $11.9 million at the domestic box office, along with and additional $33.8 million overseas, bringing its worldwide box office total to $1.435 billion. “The Lion King” is doing especially well overseas and has accumulated $939 million, which accounts for over 65% of its worldwide box office take.

Coming in at 10th place was Fox’s “The Art Of Racing In The Rain”. This is the film’s second weekend at the box office and made $4.4 million this weekend domestically, bringing its global box office amount to $18 million. Although it is off to a disappointing start, it still has only opened in less than a fourth of international markets. It will continue to be released throughout the year internationally as far out as December.

Coming in at 12th place was “Spider-Man: Far From Home”. “Spider-Man: Far From Home” made $2.755 million domestically, bringing its worldwide total to $1.103 billion. Next week, “Spider-Man: Far From Home” will become Sony’s highest grossing movie of all time. Previously, that record was held by “Skyfall”, which had a box office total of $1.109 billion. Although not a Disney property, the success of this movie helps Sony’s relationship with Marvel, which will help Spider-Man remain as part of the MCU.

“Toy Story 4” came in 14th place this weekend, bringing in $2,177 million domestically and has a worldwide box office total of $1.017 billion.

“Aladdin” is winding down its box office run and dropped to 19th place this weekend. It made $323 million domestically and has made $1.036 billion at the worldwide box office. Similar to “The Lion King”, “Aladdin” has made over 65% of its box office take from international markets. With the financial success of “Aladdin” it appears that a sequel may be in the works.

Finally, “Avengers: Endgame” came in 25th place. Even though “Endgame” is available for home purchase now, there are still some theaters that are carrying it. As of this weekend, and 17 weeks in theaters, “Avengers: Endgame” has made $2.796 billon at the worldwide box office.
