Movie Debate: Why are modern movies so bad?

Who The Fuck CARES what a bootlickin' buffoon like Coleman Hughes thinks about anything?:hmm::hmm::hmm:

I mean your right...

But Justine views on this, AI, modern Hollywood and the union has been very good.

So if you so choose ignore him listen to her.

This one is good.

It's not necessarily the movies it's the audience. The audience has a lower attention span.

The audience only cares about known IP

Go look at the top movies each year...they aren't new scripts, so we keep getting more of the same. Reboots and sequels. Of course the movie studios are going to give you what they think will make money instead of taking risk.

So we're going to get Minefield Part 10 and Lilo & Stitch 20.

They ain’t new scripts because Hollywood doesn’t want new scripts! They are putting their money on proven things or movies that have made money in the past! Money is the ultimate driver as oppose to art. There was a poster on here, can’t remember their name, but they posted that Hollywood has been acting like this for the last like 6 years…

It's new scripts

It's new smaller and original movies every week

Nobody sees them. I know. I've been in there with two, four, five people.

Plus home theater advantages coupled with so many streaming options is causing viewer fatigue.
It’s not no dam view fatigue! People are watching more and more shit every year! There’s a need for content and it’s a huge need. The issue is is just that. People are just producing content and not art! And that’s getting push more than good projects and products…

I respect it. and your right.

that's why I gave you an alternative when you said it.

^^^kaboom

apparently this is actually built into Netflix programming investnet choices

they ACTIVELY seek content that viewers / subscribers do NOT have to give their FULL undivided attention to

they WANT content that a viewer can use their phone while watching Netflix too.

^^^^ Kaboom 2 the booming

Audience claim to want new and different and HATE franchises and reboots and existing IP BUT there viewing happens show that is NOT true OVERALL

Tats true too but Day if the audience SUPPORTS redone old sh*t why would thy invest in anything else?

No matter what it IS show BUSINESS.

and that's why we get Happy Gilmore 2 and why it's the most streamed Netflix movie ever....doesn't matter if it's good. Netflix just wants people watching Netflix, so they won.

Your all right.

I think TOO MUCH CONTENT and not real actual good movies and shows is a serious problem.

Everything is so disposable now

and that links into OVERSATURATION.

Too much content makes a lot of stuff get lost

and then the studios stick to existing IP because of name recognition and attention

And because that becomes the thing the studio INVESTS in the most?

the public responds to it more which PROVES to the studios reboots are the best bet and the cycle continues.

^^^ Kaboom 4 - Back for More Boom

EXACTLY

and its tough because a project like that feeds the machine and keeps THOUSANDS employed as opposed to a new project that is more expensive more risky.

I don’t know if the audience or if it’s they scared to support new content. I think they might view new content like well if it hits then we will put money towards it. If it doesn’t then oh well. But repeat shit they know it has already worked or hit so they put money behind those…

that's a VERY tricky thing to figure out.

Should we be DIFFERENATING between streaming content and theatrical?

Mannnnnn, I just watched "The war of the worlds) with Ice Cube...OMG, it was terrible.

HORRIBLE.

but here is again the tricky part - which would be a dope docu series about the making of that trash heap.

It was from 2020 during pandemic so what you see now? They had over 5 years to FIX. But dropped it as is.

And apparently seems to be doing OK.

And did you notice its essentially a 90 minute Amazon Prime ad?

Exactly.
There wouldn’t be so many streaming apps if perople were watching less content.

I think the movie business looks at this as “why reinvent the wheel” if we can make money off of content whether it’s bad or good.

Has the art form of movie making gotten lazy or is the show business not willing take more risk to invest in content that might be atypical?

*updated*

BOTH. Neither.

Fantastic Four is a beautifully executed superhero movie. Even with Nolan being can't miss? Oppenheimer and Odyssey are RISKS.

Sinners was a BIG risk.

They wiling to take some risks. And their ability to take THOSE risks is form the profit from the big budget franchise stuff.

And I would ADD this.

We are not good movie fans anymore.

People go to the movie expecting only the movie they have created in their own head.

Everyone is a film critic and an expert.

People watch a movie to find what they hate not what they love.

People go into a movie considering the BUDGET and the MARKETING as a barometer of how good or bad it is.

How’s the promotion? How’s the trailer? Were those movies worth 15-20 bucks?

I can name a bunch of cult classics that cost 15 million dollars or less that did good in the theatre that you could easily put on streaming in today’s market and people would’ve love… saw cost 1 million to make.. if it was released today on streaming platforms it still would been a hit.. it dosent take a lot of money to make a good movie… the long walk could been a streaming movie or theatre release… weapons could be both( both these movies cost under 40 million dollars)

Part of what's happening is that there is a lot more competition to the theatrical film format itself.

30 years ago, theatrical film's only content was TV. People have brought up streaming apps, but have left out youtube and tiiktok.

So those Friday nights when people were bored at home so they went to the movies to have something to do are over. People that love movies will still go. But the number of true theatrical movie enthusiasts is shrinking. Hell, millenials and gen-z don't even prefer to watch content on TVs, they watch it on their phones and tablets, so the allure of a big screen is not nearly a draw for them as it is for Gen-X
