The son of US Representative John Conyers has been reported missing in Texas.

Carl Edward Conyers, 21, was last seen on Tuesday afternoon by his roommate at their shared apartment in South Central Houston, police told WWJ.

His older brother, John Conyers III, wrote in a post on Instagram that Carl has been missing for more than 24 hours and asked anyone with information to contact him.

In photos of Carl shared online, he is shown with facial hair but his brother said he may no longer have a beard.

Carl is currently a junior at the University of Houston and recently celebrated his birthday earlier this month on November 2, according to social media posts.

He is currently enrolled at the CT Bauer College of Business and is a Student Program Coordinator at the university, according to his LinkedIn account.

He also serves as the Marking Director for Uncommon Commons, a platform for creative expression across all forms of art at the university, and as the president of the university's Black Business Association, according to his Twitter account.

He is expected to graduate from the university in 2018.

His girlfriend, Daisha Lewis, said she and other friends briefly thought he had been located on Wednesday morning after receiving a message from his Twitter account, but they still do not know where he is.

'Right now, we still don't know where he is. He may have come back to his room around 11.30 yesterday, in the morning, but as far as we know, no one has seen him since then,' Lewis told WWJ.

'He might have come back to take more stuff out of his room, but we're not sure if it was him that took stuff out of his room or someone else that made him or someone that did it for him.'

She said she and his friends received a message on Twitter asking them to meet him on campus, but when they arrived, he was not there.

When they went back to his apartment, his ID, debit card and clothes were gone, she said, but he had left behind his car keys, his phone and his laptop at the apartment.

'He took his ID with him and a debit card and some clothes
even. Like it was a distraction to get more stuff that he left behind,' Lewis told the station.

Now his loved ones are fearing for the worst.

'We don't know where he could be,' she told WWJ.

'He left his phone and his laptop at his apartment, so I went through his laptop and I looked for emails or any history of an airplane ticket or a bus ticket somewhere, but there was nothing.'

Lewis noted that Carl was active on campus and described him as an 'amazing person' who 'everyone cares about' a lot.

'I mean, he tells me everything. I saw him everyday,' she told WWJ.

'We would talk and text all day so this is surprising to me and surprising to everyone around him.'

Carl is described as a black male with black hair and brown eyes, and is about six-feet-tall and 145 pounds.

He is the youngest son of 87-year-old Michigan Democrat John Conyers, who represents the 13th Congressional district of Michigan, and his wife Monica.

US Rep John Conyers has been in Congress since 1965 and is the longest-serving member of the House.

Anyone with information about Conyers' disappearance is asked to contact Houston Police at 713-884-3131, or the Houston Police Missing Persons Division at 832-394-1840.

UPDATE 5:42 p.m. EST
U.S. Rep. John Conyers 'very worried' about missing son
http://www.detroitnews.com/story/ne.../2016/11/17/us-rep-john-conyers-son/94016094/

U.S. Rep. John Conyers on Thursday said he is "very worried" after his 21-year-old son was reported missing Tuesday from his apartment near the University of Houston.

"We've notified the FBI," Conyers told The Detroit News about his missing son, Carl Conyers, who is a students at the university. "I'm very worried. It's very unlike him. He's a very stable young guy."

At the U.S. Capitol Thursday, Conyers said his wife Monica is in Texas.

Carl Conyers was last seen by his roommate Tuesday afternoon on the 3700 block of Southmore in Houston, said Kese Smith, public information officer for the Houston Police Department. The apartment is not far from the university campus.

"We are working with the FBI and the Secret Service, and there is also an outside, private organization called Equusearch," Smith said. "They've been contacted and they'll be lending their assistance to help canvas the area."

Later Thursday, Conyers' office released a statement in which the congressman asked for privacy and he and his family "work through this situation of uncertainty and ask that anyone with knowledge of their son’s whereabouts, contact the Houston Police Department immediately.”

The Houston Chronicle reported that Conyers' girlfriend, Daisha Lewis, became worried Tuesday when he didn't respond to her text.

On Wednesday, she went to his apartment and found his wallet, photos of family and friends, laptop, car keys and phone in the room, which was in disarray.

"To see his room like that, it was scary," Lewis told the Chronicle.

Equusearch is a Texas-based nonprofit created in 2000 to aid in missing-persons cases.

Smith said the FBI and Secret Service are involved because Conyers is the son of a congressman. He declined to comment further on the investigation.

Later Thursday, the congressman's office released a statement in which the Conyers family requested privacy as Texas officials search for their son.

“Yesterday, Rep. John Conyers, Jr. and his wife Monica Conyers learned of the disappearance of their son, Carl Conyers, who is a student at the University of Houston," spokeswoman Shadawn Reddick-Smith said. "Rep. Conyers and his family ask for privacy as they work through this situation of uncertainty and ask that anyone with knowledge of their son’s whereabouts contact the Houston Police Department immediately.”

Lewis also told the Houston Chronicle that she and other friends have received private messages from a person purporting to be Conyers since his disappearance.

In one message, she said, he urged friends to meet him on Houston's campus. When they returned to the apartment, his ID was gone and clothes were missing.

"I don't think he would do any of this," she told the newspaper. "Everyone cares about him. He has no problems with anyone. He's a good person."

The Houston Police Department on Wednesday released a missing-persons flier describing Conyers, who is 6-foot and around 145 pounds. He has a light-brown complexion, black hair and brown eyes.

In a photograph released by officials, Conyers has facial hair that was shaved prior to his disappearance, police said.

University police confirmed Conyers is a student at the University of Houston.

"Certainly the university and the university police department are cooperating with (the Houston Police Department) and (Conyers') family," spokesman Mike Rosen said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Houston police at 713-884-3131 or 832-394-1840.
