Although he may be a bit biased, Texas Tech coach Mike Leach believes Graham Harrell is the best quarterback in next month's NFL draft.

Leach, who scoffs at the system-quarterback label, angrily talked about NFL teams' concern regarding Harrell's ability to work from under center.

"You bring up easily the most pitiful NFL cop-out of all," Leach said in a telephone interview.

"And you can send that message to the whole NFL. Any coach who has ever said or uttered those words or considers that a concern, here's my message for them: How could you possibly look yourself in the mirror and consider yourself an NFL coach and not be able to teach a guy to run back three steps, five steps and seven steps? I can teach a child that!

"Any coach in the NFL who can't do that ought to be fired!"

And Leach wasn't done.

"I can do that," Leach said of teaching a quarterback to drop back. "I only need a three-hour window. I'll have a great clinic for all the NFL coaches who are so horrible that they can't teach a guy to take a snap under center and go backwards."

I think that they ARE underrating Harrell...he is more talented than any other the other QBs they have had in that system...I wouln't mid they Cowboys picking him up later in the draft since it seems like he won't go before like the 5th round

He might be the best QB to come through the TT system but that isn't saying much.

I understand Leach sticking up for his players but he has got to be kidding himself if he really thinks this kid is the best QB in the draft.

His claim to fame has been one decent season in which he beat UT by a miracle player thanks to a top ten NFL pick, then they got thumped national tv by OU.

Until he produces a few quality NFL players that come from his system he might want to cool it on telling NFL coaches what they should be able to do.

I miss his ass as an offensive coordinator though, cmon home Leach

Physically I don't see it but if the kid is smart enough then he would make for a decent backup/on field coach.

I wish the kid the best.

Harrell is definately NICE! He has a crazy statistical season that rivaled the one of McCoy and dude from Oklahoma.. The first injustice done him was no invite to the Heisman ceremony, now this.. Hopefully he proves all the haters wrong.

I dont understand it. But they draft these undercenter mufuckas just because they are 6-5. Man get outta here with that BS. San Francisco got no QB, Minnesota is doo doo at QB, Tampa boo boo, Washington is terrible, Tennessee is crap at QB. A lot of the guys are holding on to jobs because they are vets and they know people. Give this guy a chance. I happy for Jason Campbell and all, but he's terrible. Brennan needs a shot.

Did you do that when Jason White set all those records

Granted White had 2 major knee surgeries so that analogy is a bit off but he tore up the college level passing.

I've seen Harrell play and he was cool but I never saw anything that would make me want him on my team.

I'd take him over Chase fucking crybaby Daniels any day but I wouldn't waste a draft pick on him.

Scratch that. Looks like the early reports were false. Harrell is still unsigned at this point.
