Actor Michael Jace called police himself to report his wife had been shot, and he had pulled the trigger Monday night in Los Angeles... TMZ has learned.

According to law enforcement sources Jace called 911 around 8:30 PM and told police ... "I shot my wife."

We're told Jace's neighbors in the Hyde Park area of L.A. had reported shots fired in the home ... and shortly thereafter Jace made his call to 911.

Sources tell us the actor stayed on the phone, as instructed, until LAPD arrived and found his 40-year-old wife, April Jace dead.

Jace -- best know as Detective Lowe from "The Shield" -- was taken into custody, and as of 1:00 AM Tuesday ... was being questioned, but had not been booked for his wife's death.

Sad story. One of them probably pulled the gun out to prove a point or threaten the other and now the wife is dead. :smh:

The Shield is one of the great shows ever and he played a complex character.

Sad shit for the family, especially the kids.

Look at dude's face. A million thoughts going through his mind like how he'll explain this to his kids.

Nothing but regret in that face.

Hyde Park...still in the hood? RIP

Word...

When I saw Hyde Park, I was like dang. Dude lives among the rest of us common folks. Word is that he hasn't worked in quite some time and he filed for bankruptcy in 2011.

Financial problems can get the best of us.

Damn, I heard this on the radio this morning.:( They said that it might of happen in front on his children.

Unless you're a superstar in Hollywood, you're pretty much making average cash and very sporadically.

Not even 6 figures at times.

Harrison Ford was a home contractor on the come up. Denzel collected welfare for a minute.

Takes some time to get that big time, steady part.

Hyde Park is Rollin' 60's territory. Typically, houses range as low as 285K to as high as 550K when getting closer to Crenshaw District. Seems pretty expensive for a "hood," huh?

If he had the option, he would be in an upscale Black community like Ladera Heights. But now you talking 700K minimum.

But that's Cali life...

He seemed pretty calm afterwards.

Like he got pulled over for driving on a suspended license or something.

this happens when people act & spend big time before they are big time. $400,000 mortgage? Seriously. Dudes need to start driving Honda for a while., maybe a Kia. They wanna live in the Hollywood Hills, driving BMWs and Benzes and they just were in one movie or one TV show and they weren't even the star. Even if they were the star, it is important to live below your means because at any moment it can be snatched away be it actor or athlete.

everybody wants to bother mama big 60,000 dollar plus car, along with my big giant house and her kids are all grown. What does mom need with the mansion when her kids are grown? Why can't you get your mom all used bmw $30,000 and save half? Fuck pride, this money has to last you the rest of your life. They don't get it. They don't. They spend like it's going out of style instead of living below their means, paying things off instead of getting things on credit. For an athlete to get a 30 year mortgage is ridiculous because they're not going to be playing in 30 years.

I feel bad for the kids, but he put himself in a bad situation

Damn, I just watched dude in that Michael Jordan movie like two nights ago. But in response to the above question, I wonder the same thing. A dude I been friends with for years gets steady work as an extra, and a lotta bit parts with some dialogue in movies and tv, and he's doing well. No need for a day job. He's not living fancy, but not slumming by a longshot, and his house and car are paid for. He pays alimony and child support too, plus when he has his kids he gives them the world. He does stand up comedy as well, out of sheer desire, not because he needs the money. He doesn't make much from that anyway, because he's relatively unknown in that field. I can only imagine that these cats got bad contracts, or some sort of habit that keeps them from truly prospering from what they do. A lotta people try to live that Hollywood lifestyle when they can't afford it, trying to portray the facade of success through material things that onlookers can see. Mismanagement of money has to be a major factor. I would much rather live a secure, modest life without a house or car note, than try to get the big house, the fancy car, and shit I can't maintain. I remember when Hammer bought the $20 million mansion and the maintenance was over a million a month. When he lost it, I realized none of that extravagant shit makes sense. Sad to see that happen to dude, but what can you say or do? :smh:
