Mike Huckabee On Rev Wright and Black Anger

HUCKABEE: [Obama] made the point, and I think it's a valid one, that you can't hold the candidate responsible for everything that people around him may say or do. You just can't. Whether it's me, whether it's Obama...anybody else. But he did distance himself from the very vitriolic statements.

Now, the second story. It's interesting to me that there are some people on the left who are having to be very uncomfortable with what Louis Wright said, when they all were all over a Jerry Falwell, or anyone on the right who said things that they found very awkward and uncomfortable years ago. Many times those were statements lifted out of the context of a larger sermon. Sermons, after all, are rarely written word for word by pastors like Reverend Wright, who are delivering them extemporaneously, and caught up in the emotion of the moment. There are things that sometimes get said, that if you put them on paper and looked at them in print, you'd say "Well, I didn't mean to say it quite like that."

JOE SCARBOROUGH: But, but, you never came close to saying five days after September 11th, that America deserved what it got. Or that the American government invented AIDS...

HUCKABEE: Not defending his statements.

JOE SCARBOROUGH: Oh, I know you're not. I know you're not. I'm just wondering though, for a lot of people...Would you not guess that there are a lot of Independent voters in Arkansas that vote for Democrats sometimes, and vote for Republicans sometimes, that are sitting here wondering how Barack Obama's spiritual mentor would call the United States the USKKK?

HUCKABEE: I mean, those were outrageous statements, and nobody can defend the content of them.

JOE SCARBOROUGH: But what's the impact on voters in Arkansas? Swing voters.

HUCKABEE: I don't think we know. If this were October, I think it would have a dramatic impact. But it's not October. It's March. And I don't believe that by the time we get to October, this is gonna be the defining issue of the campaign, and the reason that people vote.

And one other thing I think we've gotta remember. As easy as it is for those of us who are white, to look back and say "That's a terrible statement!"...I grew up in a very segregated south. And I think that you have to cut some slack -- and I'm gonna be probably the only Conservative in America who's gonna say something like this, but I'm just tellin' you -- we've gotta cut some slack to people who grew up being called names, being told "you have to sit in the balcony when you go to the movie. You have to go to the back door to go into the restaurant. And you can't sit out there with everyone else. There's a separate waiting room in the doctor's office. Here's where you sit on the bus..." And you know what? Sometimes people do have a chip on their shoulder and resentment. And you have to just say, I probably would too. I probably would too. In fact, I may have had more of a chip on my shoulder had it been me.

MIKA: I agree with that. I really do.

JOE SCARBOROUGH: It's the Atticus Finch line about walking a mile in somebody else's shoes. I remember when Ronald Reagan got shot in 1981. There were some black students in my school that started applauding and said they hoped that he died. And you just sat there and of course you were angry at first, and then you walked out and started scratching your head going "boy, there is some deep resentment there."

Not surprising.

Out of all the GOP candidates, he seemed to be the only one with a level head.

Not surprising to me. Despite his being a Republican, he was my third favorite candidate (behind Obama and Edwards). He's got some conservative views that I don't agree with but if he were to be the Republican nominee against HRC, he'd get my vote.

I bet they were from Florida!!!!:lol::lol:

I'll never forget how some black folk in Liberty City, MIA rushed Reagan when he was running for election the first time and got into a shouting match with him!:lol::lol:

(checked Wikipedia)...

I KNEW IT!
Born in Atlanta, Georgia, Scarborough graduated from Pensacola Catholic High School in Pensacola, Florida (although he is not a Roman Catholic).

BTW Huckabee is a smart-ass politician. Dont be surprised to see him win the Presidency at some point.

Never had any beef with Mike Huckabee. Him and Obama are the only two that represented real change. :smh:

Hillary gets the nomination after all this race baiting and backhanded comments about Obama's speech. McCain speaks up for Obama, Huckabee speaks up for Obama. The ticket is going to be McCain/ Huckabee. If Hillary gets the nod, she is FUCKED.

cosign those who like Huck - he is the only cat who actually pardons people
I dont agree with all of his stances on things but Id vote for him before Hillary or McCain

Don't be so sure. Notice on his tour of the Middle East, he has Joe Lieberman at his side and you know that sneaky muhfucka is trying to get that spot.

I don't like McCain's policies, but you gotta admit, dude STILL comes off as a more sincere and decent person than Clinton at this point (for example, I have NO DOUBT that the Obama/Wright shit didn't come from his campaign). McCain/ Huckabee vs. Clinton/ Anybody is going to be a hard choice for people and just based off of being HUMAN, they will smoke her ass (fucked up policies be damned).

Can't quite put my finger on it, but I've always had a good feeling when listening to him speak. I dont agree with all of his policies, but he doesn't come off as coy as most politicians.

Both McCain and Huckabee kind of came to Obama's defense on this..interesting..

Not surprising to me either. Huckabee made a point to carry himself with dignity and class throughout the Republican nomination process. Only one he kind of dug into was Mitt Romney. Don't agree with all his views of course, but here he made some valid points that other conservatives would be wise to learn from.

I think he doesn't want to get caught saying anything too dumb right now. It will come back to bite him if he does. Remember that Southern Baptist clergy say and have said some pretty evil things. Hell, I went to a Southern Baptist private high school in the south for 4 years during the reagan bush terms. White supremacist literature was passed around like it was tiger beat. The sermons and curriculum had me writing letters of protest to the principal quite often. Some of you all would be surprised at what they say in church. And yes, I was the only Black kid there. I've got stories... :(
Anyway, before Huck publicly fellates the old man for the v.p. slot, he has to prove he can pull as many ex-bush fans and 'he's great, but we're just not ready for a Black guy' moderates as Clinton. He's still a batshit crazy theocrat. Don't let this one little interview fool you.
Also, Obama's speech was damned near untouchable.

The Wright shit came from Hillary. I do like McCain more than Hillary but that aint sayin much. Don't forget the Keating 5 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keating_Five

IMO Huckabee is actually a compassionate conservative. McCain is just a skilled liar.

He's slick too.

Why no heat for Huckabee since he keeps near his bible a book comparing America to Hitler's Germany?

Very skilled. He's worked the media like a magician but there's no SNL skits on how they pamper him. He sticks "Straight Talk Express" on the side of a bus and all of a sudden he's Mr. Straight Talk. The NY Times had a great opportunity to expose him but blew by insinuating a sexual angle. Notice he never said anything about the crux of the article: how he's in bed with the same lobbyists he purports to be against.

True on every count!

I read that the Rev. Wright story is the "dirt" Hillary had on Obama. If this is the worst thing she was able to dig up....you Go Boy!

Word. Talk about a free ride... McCain coasted and the media had a lot to do with his "surge" that brought him out of the shadows and back into contention..

:smh:@ all those sucking huckabees Dick.

So this is what its come to now, all of a sudden huckabee is getting respect around here and some of you are fucking dumb enough to actually say you'd vote for him over Hillary? This is the same Mike huckabee who doesn't believe in Biology or Evolution, says the WMD's we didn't find in Iraq are in either Jordan or Iran, says we need to change the Constitution so that its more faith based, And equates Homosexuality with beastiality, Pedophilia, and Necrophilia.

Its nice to hear him say what he said, but it doesn't change the fact that hes a crazy demented Neocon, who wouldn't think twice before launching wars that would get us into WW3.

word up he fuckin pressures the fcc commissioners for that lobbyist whore and gets away with it
just a sign of who really controls the population - the media conglomerates through their control of the conversation

think of how many people dont have time to go beyond newspapers or network news -their view of the world is a hologram projected out of some billionaire's asshole

You really think that is any worse than being a bilderberger sock puppet?
