Michelle Obama, US Senator from Illinois 2016?

I was looking at an article about Hillary Clinton, another former First Lady, who was the first First Lady to be elected to the US Senate.

Since I know Republican Mark Kirk's current term ends in 2016, I was thinking whether Michelle Obama should run for his seat. The seat is also the President's former seat.

I think she would win handily if she wanted it. Kirk had a stroke last year so it's not even guaranteed he would run again.

It's almost a perfect storm.

Fact, three of the four black US senators since Reconstruction have been from Illinois.

Illinois has voiced the "Obama For Senate" call before, but according to one poll, the Prairie State may want to repeat it — for Michelle.

In a Dec. 5 roundup of Illinois poll data, Public Policy Polling said Michelle Obama leads Sen. Mark Kirk in a hypothetical 2016 Senate matchup.

The polling firm said the first lady leads Kirk 51-40 in the could-be race. Kirk's approval rating, according to voters polled, is 34 percent, with a disapproval rating of 19 percent. Meanwhile, Michelle Obama tops out with a 60 percent approval rating, with a 33 percent disapproval.

The first lady even surpasses her husband in popularity in their home state: President Obama's approval rating is 57 percent positive among Illinois voters.

With her September speech at the Democratic National Convention, the first lady electrified the crowd much the way her husband did when delivering the keynote speech at the 2004 convention (and of course, we know what happened there).

Still, the first lady has insisted political ambitions are non-existent in her post-White House plans. During the White House's "Take Your Daughters And Sons To Work Day” event in April, she answered "absolutely not" when a young attendee asked if she would ever run for president, reports ABC News.

The polling results were revealed the day prior to the announcement that Kirk plans to return to Congress on Jan. 3, almost one year after he suffered a major stroke.

Huffington Post? I know, but only extremist sites are talking about it. Either Huffington post or Townhall.

What do you think; should she run ???

Would you support her ???

`
Using the base premise that the only goal of modern politics is to win, yes, she should run because she could win.

I would never support her outside an abstract belief that blacks need power in this country. In theory, maybe she would have more flexibility to act on black people's behalf since her priorities will be Illinois rather than the entire country, even though that logic hasn't worked well with the Congressional Black Caucus. Other than that she'll just follow the typical party line which is pro-corporate. Hopefully, at the very least, she would take a less "calculating bitch" route than Hillary Clinton.

Overall, this whole thing would be pretty interesting to watch, which is why I posted it. If you consider her gender, her race, her income (before and after marriage and before and after the white house), and her families' current social status, then it should be obvious why all her choices will be something to study.

None, this place is a cesspool of death, black unemployment, and unfunded pension liabilities.

I'm decided now where I should be by next summer.

I forgot corrupt politicians since Jesse Jackson Jr and his wife are my Congressman and City Council representative.

The Jacksons do appear to have serious problems. But are you saying there aren't any others, black or white, in the whole of Illinois that you would speak highly of ?

Que, I think we've had this conversation before. The people who you want to be in charge rarely wants to be in charge themselves.

I know many upstanding people, but no one associates doing good and being moral with public service.

The old political phrase where you insult someone by saying they weren't even qualified to be a dog catcher is flipped here. A decent person wouldn't even want to be a dog catcher. That's the reality in Illinois. People hate, not envy, the politicians and bureaucrats they have to payoff for decently-timed permits, liquor licenses, and such. Of course, many people like the system, the majority even, which is how it stays in place.
