Black Republican congressmen? Where is JC Watts Jr. and Gary Franks?

Black republicans always cry that we (Black folk) should not beholden to one political part (i.e. Democratic). I say if the republicans give us (Black folk) something to rally with them for, you will see droves of Black folk support them. It happen right after the Civil War. In the 1880s, Radial Republicans made sure that white America honored the creed of the Constitution. This was short lived and of course, white folks lost their stomach for supporting and enforcing Black civil rights and abandon Black folk, which lead to 80 years of Jim Crow laws. In US history, there has been only a handful of nationally elected Black folk, the majority being Democrats. Why won’t whites vote for blacks and why don’t black republicans blame whites for not supporting Black republican candidates? Yet Black republicans blame Black folk for not joining the republican party.

…things that make you go hmm!

"What we have to do is bring back the recognition that the people of this country can solve its problems. I still believe the answer to any problem lies with the people. I believe in state's rights and I believe in people doing as much as they can for themselves at the community level and at the private level. I believe we have distorted the balance of our government today by giving powers that were never intended to be given in the Constitution to that federal establishment."

Ronald Reagan in 1980, kicking off his Presidential campaign at the Neshoba, Mississippi County Fair, six miles from Philadelphia, Mississippi. Philadelphia, Mississippi is known for only one thing; the murders of civil rights workers; Michael Schwerner, James Earl Chaney and Andrew Goodman in 1964.

of course you didnt explain who steele was but let me guess, if he's a black democrat he's immensely qualified and if he's a black republican then he's a sellout coon that cant be trusted.

got it.

Republican Michael S. Steele is the Lt. Governor of Virginia that is embarking on a senatorial run. His sister, Monica married and divorced Mike Tyson. Qualifications evidently don’t mean too much to republicans. Look at Supreme Court nominee, Harriet Miers.

unlike some, should we say, eccentric posters i dont take my politics personally, so if we had 100 black senators i would be very happy.

of course some people here would have a problem with such a concept because it would mean some would have to be sellout coon republicans.

different priorities for different folks i guess.

I don't like Black sellouts whether Democratic or Republican. I want my representatives to vote for my issues. Changing your political stripes just to get votes while having a track record of racism won’t fly in my book.

all good in theory except there is no such thing as a sellout black democrat.

one of the many lesson i've learned from BGOL.

corruption only exist for republicans and especially a sellout cooning black republican.

Exactly.

Also Michael Steel is a Lt. Governor of Maryland. He is the first African American to hold a statewide office position. If the poster that started this thread had any real knowledge about African Americans and politics then he/she would have also stated that white Democrats in Maryland have been cheating African Americans for 40+ years by neglecting the African American Communities and not supporting African American Democrats to run for statewide office(Governor/Lt. Governor). The largest city(Baltimore) in Maryland which is mostly African American with a white Democrat as mayor is a national joke to years of urban neglect and false leadership.

It's funny how a Conservative/Republican state of Virginia elected a African American Democrat for Governor back in 1989, but a historically majority white Democrat state of Maryland has never elected a African American Democrat for state office(Governor/Lt. Governor). :(

Either you are not from the east coast, don't live in the US, or not to current with politics because he is not a Lt. Governor of Virginia, it is Maryland.

I'm sorry I meant Maryland. Virginia elected Democratic Douglas Wilder as Governor.

It's very strange that Virginia being a conservative/republican state would elect a African American Democrat for governor, but a historically liberal/democrat state of Maryland has never elected a African American Democrat for Governor.

When Douglas Wilder was Governor, Virginia was not a Republican state per se. But I do know that a liberal/democratic state, Illinois elected the first Black female to the US senate and the first to have two Black people running for US senate. :not confused:

I still say Steele is a Black republican shill! I have heard his views defending the religious right, and to me the religious right are all tacit racists!

Your story is pointless, because it does not explain why a so-called Democrat/Liberal state of Maryland has not ever elected a African American Democrat for state Governor or Lt. Governor. :smh:

Thats your ignorance; Steele is a Catholic.

So he is Catholic, like he can't be an apologist for Bob Jones University because he is Black or Catholic? No it's because he is a Black Neo Con shill, like Allen Keys who got his ass whooped in Liberal/Democratic Illinois!

Only white folx use the words Neo Con Shill. ;)

When did Mike Steel become an appologist for Bob Jones University???

Michael Steel is not Alan Keys, so again you made another a bad analogy.

While some Republicans(Blacks and Latinos) support the Minutemen Project, there is the opposite:

The integrity of Michael Steele should not be forgotten. Something in his recent past. He better not accuse anyone of electoral improprities

MD-Sen: “Republicans Anonymous” Steele campaigns as a Democrat!
September 23, 2006, 1:15 pm

Interesting sign, huh?

steele_sign.JPG

The depths to which this years’ “Republicans Anonymous” will stoop to try to confuse voters about their GOP affiliation just never cease to amaze me.

The Baltimore Sun reports that Maryland GOP Senate candidate Michael Steele has come out with new election signs that say “Steele Democrat.” His camp says that the intent of the sign is to represent Democrats who will vote for Steele, something akin to saying a “Reagan Democrat.”

The misleading intent of the signs is clear: Steele wants people who don’t follow politics much to believe that Steele is actually a Democrat.

That’s shameful, not just for Steele but for the GOP itself. Is it really so cowardly in the headlights of a possible electoral trainwreck in November that it has to paint itself with blue stripes?
