Transformers: The Last Knight opens in New Zealand cinemas on June 22.

The scene opens on Dora leaning provocatively over the open lid of her teal glitter lunch box. Her skin is a stunning shade of burnt umber (almost orange).

She bites her lip briefly, before she says... "Swiper, no swiping! Swiper, no swiping! Swiper, no swiping!"

This must be every parent's fear today as the news from Hollywood broke that lover of slow motion robot on robot carnage Michael Bay (The Transformers, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, Transformers: Dark of the Moon, Transformers: Age of Extinction, Transformers: The Last Knight) is set to produce... Dora The Explorer: The Movie.

Beloved children's cartoon Dora The Explorer will get the Micheal Bay treatment.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Bay's company Platinum Dunes will be all over the intrepid cartoon tot's globally conscious antics, with help from Nick Stoller (The Muppets, Neighbours), who will write the film.

The Reporter doesn't have many more details, except that the film will be a live-action version of the cartoon, and Dora will no longer be a 7-year-old. She'll be a teen living with her cousin Diego in the big city.

On of Nickelodeon's most beloved cartoons, Dora The Explorer followed the little Latina on international quests with her pet monkey Boots and cousin Diego for 14 years, from 2000 to 2014.

Platinum Dunes is the company behind the massive Transformers franchise and the much less massive Teenage Ninja Turtles franchise.

Michael Bay has copped some flak in recent years for the hyper-sexualised portrayals of women in his films, and for accusations around his treatment of Transformers star Megan Fox who called his treatment of her "abusive".
