McCain hopes Castro dies

I love those Repub "Christians" and how they practice their religious tenets.

Yep, put this latest one right up there with Pat Robertson publicly advocating the assassinating of Chavez. To me there's always been something just very evil and sadistic about these people, it's almost as if they represent the direct bloodline of those who took joy in the atrocities committed against the native Americans as well as the torture and dehumanizing of the African slaves.

He is not a military or economic threat to the US.

However he is an idealogical threat because he represents David in the fight against Goliath.

He represents defiance, the same thing they spin as positive when they talk about the founding fathers' defiance against mighty Britain at the time.

He represents strength to stand up for what you believe in against all odds.

Overstand.

I'm forced to co-sign on this. Already we see politicians here taking about "push for change" in Cuba and it doesn't even seem to dawn on them that this "pushing" people is why the threat of terrorism is what it is today.

Here is the long and short of it on Cuba. The problem with Cuba began when Castro took power, nationalized everything and kicked the mob out...

That may be the short of it. You left out the good parts.

American companies owned all the oil refineries in Cuba, and colluded to control the price of gas (sound familiar?). When the U.S.S.R. signed a deal with Cuba to supply the island with oil at market prices, the U.S. owned refineries refused to process the oil. In retaliation, the Cuban government nationalized the refineries. The U.S. government retaliated in turn by declaring an embargo against Cuba. This happened two years after Castro took power.

The Cuban revolution represented more than just "an idealogical threat". It inspired and assisted a number of independence movements in Colonial Africa.

When apartheid South Africa sought to stem the tide of freedom in Angola, the U.S. government provided assistance to the racist bastards while the Cuban government sent troops to oppose them. The U.S. government has a very funky definition of freedom when it comes to people of color. Course, if you are the son of a slave, you already know that. I'm hoping Pres. Obama will represent "a sea change" in that regard. So far, he hasn't said much.

Cuba, as James Brown would say, "would rather die on its feet, than live on its knees".

That is understood but I'm talking about 2008.

Cuba doesn't send troops anywhere anymore, they send doctors and nurses (some of the best in the world).
