Wonder if this was related the altercation with Will Bynum :dunno:

The Detroit Pistons have fired coach Maurice Cheeks, league sources told Yahoo Sports.

Despite back-to-back victories on the weekend, general manager Joe Dumars informed Cheeks of his dismissal on Sunday morning, sources said.

Cheeks didn't make it to the All-Star break of his first season as Detroit's coach. He was in the first year of a two-year contract with the Pistons.

Owner Tom Gores had become increasingly impatient with Cheeks, and sources with knowledge of his plans say that he had been pushing for a change in the coaching staff.

Eight different coaches have been replaced under Dumars' run as GM, but league sources told Yahoo Sports he had been an advocate of giving Cheeks more time as coach – especially in light of back-to-back victories over the weekend.

Detroit is 21-29 and a half-game behind Charlotte for the eighth seed in the Eastern Conference playoff chase.

Why hasn't Joe Dumars been fired?

The fact that he selected Darko Milicic in one of the deepest drafts in NBA history is a travesty that has set the franchise back 10 years (and counting).

What happen with him and Bynum?

They have Drummond and Monroe and still underachieve

Why hasn't Joe Dumars been fired?

Still living off that title and his reputation as a player

Not to mention Brandon Jennings and Josh Smith

Who knew those two would be bad pick ups

Why does everybody keep bringing up Melo? I'm glad the Pistons didn't draft him. He didn't fit into the Pistons lineup. He would've wanted to be the "star", "ball hog" and that would've cost us a championship that year. And Melo would've left as soon as his contract was up so he could be the shotjacker that he is now.

No he wouldn't have, because he would have been a rookie and only used off the bench for instant offense. In fact you might have two.

Plus he would have been under a good coach, and there's no way Larry would have let a rookie dictate the flow of offense on his team.

I told some dude the Josh Smith won't work if they start Drummond. Smith can't shoot well enough to be playing the 3. Drummond is easily their best player in only his second year. Drummond dosen't try to do more than what he's capable of. A player has to play within him self. Drummond's gonna be a top big man soon.

Man cheeks been waiting on this job forever.....they pull the trigger way faster than a professional program should

yeah thats it blame him for that awful offseason

Dumars gotta go as well

Josh Smith at the 3? :smh:

Plus all that money they gave him? :smh:

Brandon Jennings? :smh:

You're crazy man. I don't know if Coach Brown would have played him but we would have at least went back to back with Melo. The main problem we had against the Spurs was long periods of weak offensive production because we didn't have players that could produce their own offense. Melo would have been perfect for us.

Man.. i knew what time it was when he picked up two left-handed chuckers man... Jennings and Smith :smh::smh::smh:

In general, not just Joe...how can GMs be so stupid:smh:

He could have came on BGOL and we could have told him to leave Josh Smith and Jennings alone:lol:

Certain players just aren't winners and Josh Smith and Brandon Jennings are the definition of it.

I would have kept Knight, because at least he's not a low volume chucker.

I was just glad that Detroit got Jennings, because I heard some gossip about Jennings trying to come back to LA :smh:

Man cheeks been waiting on this job forever.....they pull the trigger way faster than a professional program should

Dumars trying to save his job

He doesn't have the same relationship with his new owner

If they don't turn it around he should be gone

dude is on one

coach brown wouldve taught melo how to play some fucking defense too

Thing is many of us on BGOL are smarter than the average fan that buys tickets and goes to games

He made those moves to appease those people who fill the seats and buy jerseys

Sign Josh Smith they are like :dance: cuz he is flashy name and does highlight plays

Trade for Brandon Jennings he is another name player who is all flash no substance

Names and flash put butts in seats, wins do also but if you can't win that's the next best thing

dude is on one

coach brown wouldve taught melo how to play some fucking defense too

Larry Brown is turning around SMU as well

They are the talk of the town right about now

Detroit Pistons Fans Create Petition to Make Rasheed Wallace Head Coach

If Jason Kidd can do it, so can Rasheed Wallace, right?

Shortly after the Detroit Pistons reportedly fired former head coach Mo Cheeks, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports, an official White House petition was created to have Wallace named as the team's interim head coach, probably because this is America and you're allowed to make any kind of petition you want.

That's the million dollar question smh

I'm not gonna judge Dumars on every move that the Pistons make. I know sometimes there are cases where he's asked to make moves that he may not want to do or may not be willing to pay.

Like who is responsible for finding Drummond and Monroe?

Plus you also have the problem that the only people willing to come to Detroit are 2nd and 3rd tier players like the Ben Gordon's, the Josh Smith's, etc.

It didn't set them back. They were a playoff contender when they drafted Milicic. And Joe Dumars was part of that reason. His squad got older. Shit happens. You know these organizations are not gonna pass up the big man regardless if he ain't shit. Portland missed out on KD but they not struggling. Their problems go deeper than passing up Melo.

might as well...ball don't lie.

I'm sure both teams will play hard.

basically
his entire career would be perceived different. that team with all those vets on it and a hall of fame coach? melo would have 2 rings shit maybe 3.

dumars just gotta go. i mean he drafted darko with that pick.
he then chose stuckey over chauncey billups
he lies to the fans talking bout clearing space to make a splash in the summer of lebron
did it again last year to sign jennings and smith
i mean the pistons haven't been relevant in 10 years directly because of him.

he's doing the gm tactics though. fire the coach instead of admit it's me.

cheeks gets a raw deal AGAIN
got fired from the blazers and they haven't won shit since he was gone.

got fired from philly and they ain't won shit since he was gone

cheeks should be coaching okc.

Do you really want Sheed on the sidelines

He'd be getting thrown out of every game

at press conferences

He could be a great teacher of big men. Heck a lot of people want him at Carolina.

^^^^^ yeah had Dumas drafted Melo he would have a quick 3 chips already lmaoooo

Dumars was a heck of a player but that nigga is a horrible GM

nah man it was a consensus that it would be lebron as #1, wade had that outstanding ncaa run and melo won the damn ncaa championship and bosh was a beast at tech.

there's where you go with that draft those were the 4 best amateurs in the world coming into pro ball. it wasn't close, nobody showed anything that could warrant anyone not going through those 4 FIRST

and then look at the draft

lebron 1

THAT DUDE PICKED DARKO

and then promptly everyone on that list went off the board

in order

Yeah man. Those were no-brainers. If you had a top 3 pick, that should have been an easy draft. There were ZERO doubts about those players man. Melo ran though the NCAA tournament and wade was in full beast-mode. There were NO DOUBTS those guys were going to be GREAT players..it was just about how great they were going to be... those were can't miss players... you always take guys like that. Dumars fucked that draft up and we all know how a missed draft pick in a superstar class can fuck a franchise up.

 he let miami hit the lottery by picking darko. he picks melo they don't get wade.

who knows where they'd be right now.

man....the entire NBA would be different. Melo would have most likely been the first one out of that class with an title... we would be looking at all those players differently. Melo would have come off an NCAA title and most likely won a NBA title back to back

I'm not one to advocate a black man losing his job, but Joe gotta go! Villanueva, Gordon, Jennings, Smith, Darko… dude has a lot of fuck ups on his resume. His only chip's statue of limitation ran out a long time ago.
