Cartoonist Matt Groening had no idea his one-off animated episode of "The Simpsons" in 1987 would become America's longest-running sitcom, now beginning its 37th season. Seth Doane talks with Groening about the show's enduring appeal (and propensity to predict the future), and visits the Annecy International Animated Film Festival in France, where the art of animation is celebrated.

In this web exclusive, cartoonist Matt Groening talks with Seth Doane about the evolution of the animated sitcom "The Simpsons" as it enters its 37th season. Groening also discusses why the show's humor spans generations, and how his own family (father Homer, mother Marge, and siblings Lisa and Maggie) appreciated the cartoon antics – or not!

I'll say this, I'm currently binge-watching the show, currently on episode 21:14 and the Golden Era is REAL!... I breezed through those first 11 season, the last 11 have been a DRAG.

The show has to be out of steam, and I'm hearing that Julie Kavner is starting to struggle doing Marge's voice
